Upon returning home, I immediately messaged Tong Ming: "We broke up."
He called, but I didn't answer.
Desperate, he sent me a flurry of messages, which I ignored completely.
After taking a shower, I went straight to bed.
I slept dreamlessly through the night.
The next day, I went to the office to cancel my leave.
To my surprise, my home had become the domain of Tong Ming's mother and Tong Liang.
The Italian Handmade Leather Sofa, which I had custom-made in a soft yellow, looked warm and romantic.
At that moment, his mother was sitting on it without a care in the world, munching on fruit.
Tong Liang was drunkenly playing video games.
When she saw me return, his mother shot me a glare.
"Go buy some groceries; I'm making pig trotters stewed with yellow beans for lunch."
"Hurry up! What are you standing there for?"
I let out a cold laugh. "If you don't leave right now, I'll call the police."
Her expression changed instantly as she slapped her thigh and began to wail at my doorstep.
"Oh dear, what a sin! And we haven't even entered yet, and you're already trying to kick this old woman and her younger brother out."
"If anything happens to me, it's all because of your black-heartedness."
"God is blind; why am I so unfortunate..."
Neighbors began peeking out from their doors, pointing at me.
"Who is this? How can she be so heartless?"
"Exactly! Everyone has feelings; how can she treat her elders like this?"
"She looks quite pretty, but her heart is so vicious."
"The house was bought for me by my parents. What does it have to do with you?"
"Did your son bring you here with my permission?"
"Breaking into someone else's home and turning things upside down, do you have no shame?"
Tong Ming's Mother looked at me.
In the next moment, she screamed even louder.
Tong Liang charged at me, gripping a bottle.
I nimbly dodged out of the way.
Tong Ming hurried over, frowning. "Qianqian, how can you lay hands on my mom? Can't you just let her be?"
I scoffed, "We're already broken up. Your mom has nothing to do with me, so why should I let her be?"
Tong Ming's face darkened. "I don't agree to the breakup."
I rolled my eyes. "Suit yourself. I'm leaving now, and you all better not follow me, or I'll call the police."
Tong Ming's Mother immediately started to act stubborn. "This house is mine; why should I leave?"
Tong Ming looked troubled. "Qianqian, my mom is getting old; can't you just let her stay here for a few days?"
I smirked slightly. "You're her son; you can stay with her."
Tong Ming's Mother immediately interjected, "No way! Amin still has to go to work!"
I raised an eyebrow. "Then get out of my house."
Tong Ming's Mother clung tightly to the doorframe.
Tong Ming pulled her back a bit, and she lost her balance, twisting her waist.
I found it amusing to watch the scene unfold.
"Still not leaving?"
Tong Ming's Mother shot me a fierce glare but ultimately followed Tong Ming out.
Tong Ming turned back repeatedly. "Qianqian, my mom just has a quick temper..."
"Actually, I don't mean any harm. Don't stoop to her level."
"Give me a chance to make it up to you."
I slammed the door shut.
Out of sight, out of mind.
For now, I moved in with my best friend, Shen Hua.
Upon hearing my story, Shen Hua shook her head repeatedly.
"Thank goodness you didn't tell Tong Ming. The money your parents left you is enough for a lifetime of luxury."
"Tong Ming's family are like vampires; they will drain you dry as soon as they catch a whiff of blood."
I nodded in agreement. "That's true."
"At least you woke up early."
At the office, my colleagues were gossiping in the group chat.
"Have you heard? The heir of the group is about to take office!"
"Is that for real?"
"Of course it's true! My friend works at headquarters and told me."
"I heard this heir is super handsome and still single!"
"Wow! I wonder when he'll come by; I can't wait to see him!"
I turned off the group notifications, feeling uninterested.
After work, I went to the convenience store to buy some snacks.
As soon as I stepped outside, I spotted a familiar figure.
Tong Ming blocked my path. "Qianqian."
