Augustus looked at Newton, who suddenly wore a pained expression, with surprise. He reached out to grab Newton's shoulders, but to his astonishment, he found that he couldn't hold onto him as Newton slowly crouched down.
Newton collapsed onto the ground, appearing lifeless. Oghast felt as if he were suffocating; what was happening? He hadn't done anything yet. Although he had entertained thoughts of killing Newton, those were merely thoughts—he hadn't taken any real action. After all, they had only just begun their cooperation, and there was already a significant gap between them. Now Jelf had regained his full power to challenge Acnologia, and it was crucial for both sides to unite at this moment. Yet here was the commander of the other side having an incident right beside him. This was no game; even if he had eight mouths, he couldn't explain it clearly. Perhaps Fairy Tail wouldn't dissolve their alliance due to the current situation. However, after such a long time of confrontation, Oghast had to admit that Newton's threat was a testament to his strength. Losing such a powerful combatant at this critical moment of war would be incredibly difficult for them.
Just as Oghast was feeling distressed, Newton slowly began to awaken. When he opened his eyes, it wasn't confusion that showed but waves of fear.
"Are you... okay?"
The question felt pointless; almost everyone asks this when someone wakes up, yet those who wake up usually don't claim they're fine.
"What do you think?"
Newton sighed and then looked at Mavis, his expression shifting as if he were deep in thought.
"Forget it; let's revive the First Generation..."
The Alchemy Array appeared once more. Oghast, seeing Newton perform Alchemy for the first time, felt detached from the situation. However, he sensed that Newton's magic circle exuded a natural pressure far more intense than what he felt in the presence of Jelf and Acnologia. Moreover, if Oghast had been observant, he would have noticed that Newton held a red stone in his hand. Yet now, Newton seemed to have no intention of using the Philosopher's Stone; he simply began the Alchemy known as resurrection through the Alchemy Array.
"This... Newton?"
Mavis looked surprised, not understanding why she saw Newton before her.
"You died too?"
"I revived you."
Newton let out a long breath; everything seemed fine for now.
"Revive?"
Mavis was stunned. She understood resurrection and knew it was not something easily achieved.
"What did you sacrifice?"
"Nothing at all."
Newton shook his head and then revealed the Philosopher's Stone.
"You are aware of my research during this time. With the Philosopher's Stone, I can achieve things like the Panacea, resurrection, and even turning stone into gold. If it were before, you would still be carrying a divine curse, and there would be nothing I could do. However, since Jelf has removed the curse from you, you are now just an ordinary person, so resurrecting you should pose no difficulty."
Mavis was already familiar with the Philosopher's Stone, so she wasn't too surprised. Augustus, on the other hand, looked puzzled because he hadn't seen Newton use any of these things just now. After thinking for a moment, he chose not to speak up. Although he claimed to know thousands of spells, in reality, he only knew one that reflected enemies' attacks. He had researched others, but Alchemy was not within his scope.
"I see."
Mavis could only conclude that Newton's Alchemy was far beyond common understanding; there had hardly ever been similar Alchemy techniques. Even if she wanted to understand it, there was no way to do so except through Newton's own explanations. If he said there was no problem, then even if there were issues, she could only observe quietly.
"Alright, First Generation, how much power do you still have?"
This was a question worth asking. Although they were trying to save someone, doing so also meant enhancing their own combat abilities. If Mavis still had her strength from back in the day, not to mention anything else, the three great magic spells of Fairy Tail could inflict considerable damage on Acnologia.
"No problem."
Mavis gave a thumbs up.
"I've never felt this good before."
She took a couple of steps forward and then suddenly fell to the ground with a thud. Picking herself up silently, Newton noticed tears welling in the corners of her eyes.
"Please don't push yourself too hard."
Before Newton could say anything further or even know what to say, Mavis often acted like a child in front of them. However, just like children often pretended to be mature, Mavis was one of those big kids. So if Newton tried to comfort her at that moment, the outcome could be quite disastrous.
Augustus didn't understand this dynamic, so Newton wasn't surprised by his reaction; what surprised him was Mavis's response.
"You are...?"
Mavis displayed an expression of disbelief as she looked at Augustus as if she had discovered a treasure.
"Hello..."
Augustus, too, had lost the imposing aura of the Holy Twelve Shields. Instead, he appeared hesitant and somewhat flustered.
"I seem to smell something inappropriate. I mean, Augustus, at your age, you wouldn't be thinking of cheating on your emperor, would you? Could it be that you're into lolis?"
Newton made an extremely inappropriate guess and stated it without any hesitation.
"Shut up, that's my mother."
Augustus's words left Newton speechless.
"Stop joking around; this isn't a family reunion. The relationship between that little girl from your side and Lucy aside, the connection between Erin and Erza is already enough to give me a headache. What kind of chaos are you stirring up here?"
Newton was on the verge of breaking down. What was going on with everyone losing their minds? Was this some kind of domestic violence scene? Hey! This domestic violence scene seemed a bit too intense.
"No, it should be real."
Mavis shook her head, her youthful face displaying an incongruous tenderness, and then she embraced Augustus.
