Time passed day by day, and soon Newton found the whereabouts of Jelf and Mavis. Everyone had gathered at Qishi's base.
"Although we've located His Majesty, the key question now is how we are going to deal with Acnologia?"
Augustus did not believe that they could handle Acnologia. After Jelf's training, he had come to trust Jelf's words completely, and in his mind, he had already demonized Acnologia, viewing him as an unbeatable force.
"Throw lives at him."
It was a cold statement, but perhaps it was the best way to confront Acnologia. If there were any other methods, Newton would prefer not to resort to this one.
"However, before discussing the detailed plan, I need to address something with you all."
Newton tapped on the table, looking quite serious.
"That is the question of who will lead us. Mr. Augustus, you should know how chaotic it can be on the battlefield with two supreme commanders, right?"
"What? You want to command us?"
Agil was quite displeased. Collaborating with these guys was already pushing his limits, and now they dared to step over him?
"I understand you all..."
Newton shook the documents in his hand.
"These contain varying degrees of information about each of you, but you know nothing about us."
"Then you can share your information with us."
Augustus also had no intention of letting Newton lead his side. Although they had negotiated and formed a partnership, if they succeeded in killing Acnologia and one side suffered significant losses, the other side would definitely not hold back. At that point, if the opposing side had detailed information about them, it would not be a trivial matter.
"Fine."
Newton nodded and instructed Jiang to bring out a document.
"This is the magic data for Fairy Tail that you will need," he said. "You can take it with you."
It was direct, too direct, making Augustus wonder if there was some sort of conspiracy behind it. The document was simply tossed onto the table, yet no one dared to touch it.
"Forget it, Augustus," Erin spoke up. "Let this kid take charge."
Augustus shook his head. Although Erin claimed it had nothing to do with them, the blood ties could not be dismissed with mere words. In fact, the feeling would only deepen as they spent more time together, especially concerning Yue Fa.
"Then let him lead," Augustus finally chose to compromise. Even he had to admit Newton's seemingly endless tactics.
The others were easier to convince; with the two leaders already agreeing to Newton's leadership, any opposition from the rest would be futile. Thus, Newton's followers now comprised the top Mages from two continents, united to battle against the legendary destructive Demon Dragon.
On another front, Jelf and Mavis were engaged in their own conversation.
"Tomorrow, the magic circle will be ready," Jelf said, looking at Mavis. "Then both of us can free ourselves from this tragic fate."
Mavis remained silent, simply gazing at Jelf, as the atmosphere grew increasingly somber.
The next morning, Mavis lay within the magic circle, her expression calm and unreadable, revealing nothing of her thoughts.
“Mavis, we are about to begin.”
Jelf activated the magic circle, which was filled with a sense of life. However, at that moment, Mavis appeared to be in great pain, as black gas continuously emanated from her body. Jelf absorbed these dark substances, his expression turning fierce and terrifying. As the last wisp of black material entered Jelf's body, the world seemed to fall silent. Then, the terrifying black substance began to spread from Jelf's center, covering an area of about one hundred meters. Although it was not large, within this range, there were no signs of life; it could be said that the area surrounding Jelf was a domain of death.
“I’m sorry.”
Jelf looked at Mavis, who seemed to have fallen into a deep slumber, and reached out to caress her cold, defeated face.
“Wait for me. Once I deal with Acnologia, I will come to be with you.”
Without using magic, he dug into the earth with his bare hands until he had created a grave large enough for her. After a brief silence, Jelf's eyes grew resolute as he soared into the sky, flying in a specific direction.
“That’s truly terrifying.”
A suit of armor appeared on the scene. The main difference between armor and a human was the absence of life; facing Jelf now posed no risk of being instantly killed by his strange curse.
Arriving at Mavis's location.
“I wonder what’s so good about this place. Could it be that he just picked it randomly? If that’s the case, does he expect grass to grow over both his and Mavis's graves?”
Newton, controlling the armor, grumbled as he dug.
“The king is already immortal; perhaps he wants to build a house here to keep Mavis company?”
Unable to tolerate Newton's complaints any longer, Augustus voiced his speculation.
“That makes sense.”
Newton nodded and brushed off the dirt from Mavis before lifting her up gently.
"Alright, with this, at least one person is already in hand; now it's time for the next one..."
"But Mavis is dead, isn't she?"
Newton was curious why Augustus seemed so sorrowful; logically, it didn't make sense. Could it be that he had feelings for Mavis, or perhaps he wanted to take his superior's place? Newton subtly distanced himself a bit.
"Dead? Playing with life and death is not something only Jelf can do."
The armored figure moved quickly, returning with Mavis in its grasp. Newton then pulled out a dark red stone.
"What is this?"
"The Philosopher's Stone."
Newton could only hope that the Philosopher's Stone would serve as a bargaining chip. He offered up his largest piece of the Philosopher's Stone and fixed his gaze intently on his door.
"Ugh!"
Pain surged through him, sudden and overwhelming. It felt as if his entire body was being pulled apart, his insides torn to shreds. At the same time, an imposing presence descended upon him, an urge to kneel that he couldn't resist.
"Kneel, mortal!"
Everything before his eyes suddenly turned pale.
