The armor was already on high alert, so there was no need to prepare as it charged toward Erin.
"A bunch of ants, Holy Dragon's Roar!"
Erin turned her head and unleashed a breath attack. Dragon breath was not ordinary saliva; each type of dragon's breath contained corresponding magical power. Although the Holy Dragon's breath appeared to be healing in nature, its destructive capability was equally astonishing. The first armor struck was reduced to ashes. While it seemed that Natsu and his companions were putting up a good fight, this moment clearly demonstrated the immense power behind Erin's breath.
However, Newton had deployed an overwhelming number of armors. From the beginning, he had decided to categorize the armors into two parts. One part was custom-made to enhance others' combat abilities, while the other part was specifically designed as cannon fodder. Currently, it was this latter group that was being consumed.
The sheer number of armors spread across the battlefield was staggering. The puppets created by Erin quickly became entangled with countless armors. Each rocky life form was covered in a dense layer of armor. Upon closer inspection, one would notice that not all the armor was for combat; some were repurposed for logistical tasks, gathering debris and components from the ground. Although the reassembled armor looked shabby, it still served its purpose well enough as cannon fodder. Under Newton's strategy of overwhelming numbers, even Erin found herself struggling to keep up. After all, even enhanced magic required time to cast; it wasn't something one could simply think about and execute instantly. Thus, Erin's speed began to lag behind the repairs being made to the armors, and she wasn't the only one engaged in battle.
"Fire Dragon's Claw!"
Ignoring Natsu and his companions would be a grave mistake. Their powerful fists were impossible for Erin to overlook, especially since there were multiple fists delivering various attribute attacks infused with potent Dragon Slayer magic. Wendy did not join the offensive but enhanced some of the armors with dragon-slaying attributes, allowing even ordinary armors to stand a chance against dragons. As a result, the cumulative damage inflicted on Erin gradually increased. Yet Erin seemed unfazed, gazing at Wendy as if she were a rare treasure.
Even though Erin appeared indifferent, Natsu and his friends couldn't inflict any significant damage on her; they nonetheless blocked her path, making it impossible for her to destroy Fiss. Oghast may not have expected things to go smoothly from the start, but that didn’t mean others lacked interest in joining the fray.
"What a lively scene! I wonder how I fit into this?"
Following this voice came a wave of terrifying breath; however, unlike others, this breath belonged to the earth itself. Rocks swirled like a whirlwind, scattering both Erin and Natsu as they fought.
"God's Selene?"
Newton frowned at the sight of her presence. Through introductions from the other three Ishgar Four Kings, he learned that this first member of the Holy Ten also wielded Dragon Slayer magic. However, unlike Laxus’s unique form of Dragon Slayer magic derived from embedding Magic Crystals, God's Selene possessed a different kind of Dragon Slayer magic—one that allowed her to consume earth and other materials as if each breath amplified her magical power.
"This guy is actually pretty strong."
The Emerald Dragon didn't mind much. Previously, he had fought against the Dragon Slayer Mage because he was on the side of the dragons, and he had also faced the infamous Acnologia, the Dragon King. The pressure from that Dragon King was far more terrifying than what this guy presented. However, the current situation was different. If it were just God's Selene alone, the Emerald Dragon could still hold his ground, but now with just Erin, they were already struggling to keep up. It felt like a fifty-fifty chance, and with God's Selene joining in, he couldn't shake off the feeling that things would end badly.
Unlike the others present, Newton was pondering whether the appearance of their opponent was due to Oghast's orders or if God's Selene had come on her own. If it were the former, Newton would need to call Natsu and the others back or consider facing them head-on. But if it were the latter, things might be simpler; although still dangerous, facing two Holy Ten members was better than confronting a whole group of them.
"First Generation, do you think they might be trying to ambush us?"
"Based on what we know about God's Selene's personality, that's unlikely. However, we can't rule out that possibility entirely, so I think it's best to play it safe. Let's call everyone back."
Indeed, facing Erin this time gave Newton and his team a clearer understanding. At first, when they heard about her being part of an imperial duo, they thought she might not be much different from their Four Kings. But now seeing her ability to transform into a dragon and her combat power surpassing that of several other Holy Ten members made it clear that they needed to reassess their strength. At least now they knew what level of combat power would be required to stand against her, and calculating Oghast's strength based on her would yield a fairly accurate estimate.
"Alright, Jiang, inform them to retreat. Staying here is pointless now."
Jiang nodded. The others, including Natsu and Laxus, all wore communicators for convenience and quickly received Newton's instructions. However, figuring out how to retreat posed a challenge.
"I'll notify the Mech Armor and the mass-produced Mech Armors over there to intercept Erin and God's Selene while you take your chance..."
"Sorry, we might not be able to leave..."
"The scent of dragons!"
The Demon Dragon Acnologia cast a shadow of death over the battlefield.
