Fairy Tail remained unchanged, even after being away for a while. If anything had changed, it would have been surprising.
"Everyone, we're back," Newton said with a smile.
However, the cheers he had imagined were absent. Instead, everyone looked at Newton with rather strange expressions.
"Um..." Gray spoke up directly, glancing at Rona beside Newton. Although she didn’t resemble Newton much and had only been around for less than three months, it seemed unlikely that someone could just appear out of nowhere like this. Yet, seeing how close the girl was to Newton, it was clear their relationship was anything but ordinary.
Newton noticed the odd looks from everyone as well. Makarov had certainly picked up on it too, but who knew what Makarov was thinking? He had no intention of explaining anything to Newton; instead, he quietly walked over to Miraj and Erza with a sigh.
"Ah, it's my fault for not keeping an eye on this rascal and letting him do something that would upset you all."
"Alright, President, we know Newton isn't that kind of person," Miraj said with a smile, shaking her head. She crouched down to look at Rona, who appeared timid. Although her exterior didn’t show much, it was clear that Rona's body was trembling slightly.
"Don't be nervous. I'm Newton's partner. What's your name?"
Feeling Miraj's kindness, Rona seemed to relax a little.
“Rona.”
“Rona, what a lovely name. Come on, let’s chat, shall we?”
“No, no, no. I want to call Mommy.”
Newton held a cup in his hands, a teasing smile on his face.
“Hey, what’s going on here?”
Erza was nearly at her breaking point.
“Did you really have a daughter out there?”
“I didn’t have her.”
Newton began to recount everything he had encountered, from the sewers to how he rescued Makarov, sharing nearly every detail with everyone.
“I… I need to see that child…”
Hearing about the other’s equally tragic childhood stirred Erza’s compassion, and she stood up to head toward Miraj and Rona.
“Newton, are those Holy Twelve Shields really that strong?”
Natsu was already eager to engage in battle, challenging strong opponents being his favorite pastime.
"Very strong, indeed, Natsu. I think that even with your current abilities, you might not be a match for any of them. Just consider that our first God's Selene is merely one of the Holy Twelve Shields, and not even the strongest among them. You can imagine just how powerful the others must be, and then there's the emperor who can suppress all twelve of them—how formidable must their strength be?"
Newton's words plunged everyone into silence. It was true; although it seemed that Newton had easily dealt with one of them, when he laid out all the information before them, no one felt capable of confronting these individuals.
"That demon is mine."
Gray immediately chose his opponent. After all, facing a demon, relying on Demon Extermination Magic was undoubtedly the best approach—this was what Newton had thought at the beginning as well.
"Alright, but let's not be too tense. Even though we know our enemies are powerful, we don't know when they will strike, so we still have time."
Newton smiled.
"So what we need now is to hold a grand feast to welcome the old man back."
The entire Fairy Tail guild erupted with excitement, and Makarov was moved by the atmosphere. However, after everyone had settled down, all the S-Class members of Fairy Tail found Newton.
"Newton, you aren't hiding anything from us, are you?"
Laxus was direct; he preferred to ask straightforwardly rather than beat around the bush.
"Indeed, I may not have all the details, but it's possible that they could attack at any moment. From my research on their side, they are already developing large Magical Weapons. Airships and ships are also under construction; we can't predict when they might come."
Newton knew that time was limited. The nature of the opposing country was quite distorted; while it appeared orderly and even progressive at times, it had one glaring flaw: its king. This Founding Emperor had become almost divine in status; whatever he commanded would be executed unconditionally by those below him. Moreover, according to the data, most members of the Holy Twelve Shields were ruthless killers, many having committed acts of mass slaughter. This country was a thoroughly militaristic empire that had begun constructing long-range transport and combat devices. Therefore, it wouldn't surprise Newton if they attacked at any moment.
"The key point is that the emperor of this country is Jelf."
The moment those words were spoken, it felt as if everyone had been hit by a bomb, leaving them all in a state of confusion.
"You're joking, right?"
Laxus understood what that name truly meant; it was no longer just about being the strongest, but rather about legacy.
"I know exactly what I am, but because I know what I am, I must remind you that the other side is truly determined to obtain our Meteoric Radiance..."
Although Jiang's magic was merely speculation, Newton found it entirely reasonable. Moreover, considering the history with Jelf and their First President, even if the opponent knew nothing else, just the desire to reclaim Meteoric Radiance for that body would make perfect sense to Newton.
"The Dark Mage from the legends? That's truly shocking news."
"End."
"That guy has lived for a long time, hasn't he? If that's the case, he must know something about the dragons."
Everyone reacted differently, yet not a single person showed any sign of fear.
"Alright, the situation is more or less like this. To gather the maximum combat power, I've already sent someone from the Guild to notify Kildas. Whether they can make it in time is uncertain. I'm planning to head to the palace now to see how preparations are going over there. Everyone, get ready; war is coming."
