"Well, that guy really knows how to stir things up."
Inside a tavern, a burly figure with short golden hair should have exuded a fierce aura. However, if you weren't paying attention, it seemed as if this place had no such person at all. It was only when he spoke that everyone in the tavern felt as if they had been struck by an electric current.
"Laxus, are we heading back?"
This tall man was indeed Laxus Dreyar, but the Laxus now was worlds apart from the one a year ago. If the Laxus who stirred trouble before was like a mischievous child, then the Laxus from a year ago had already begun to show signs of a great leader. Now, he resembled a sword sheathed in its scabbard; though seemingly unremarkable, the lightning in his eyes conveyed an overwhelming presence.
On the other side, the three members of the Thunder God Clan hadn’t changed much. After all, only a year had passed, so it was normal for them not to have undergone significant transformations. However, in terms of demeanor, they also remained relatively unchanged. This made it clear that during this time, Laxus had indeed gained considerable strength and experienced substantial growth.
"Right here!"
Just as everyone was discussing, a group rushed in, dressed in various strange outfits.
"You must be the ones who took down Paralys last time!"
"Scared of spicy food? Willow?"
Laxus raised an eyebrow and looked at his right-hand man, Sting. As Laxus's top lieutenant, Sting acted as Laxus's external thought processor, keeping track of most matters for him. Although Laxus wasn't mindless—on the contrary, he was quite intelligent—he considered these trivial matters unworthy of his attention.
"Yeah, I remember. They were those Dark Mages who tried to raid a village we visited before but got taken out instantly. I think they had some guild backing them or something; it seems that way now."
Sting showed no concern for their opponents; after all, such insignificant beings were hardly worth remembering for them.
"Should I handle this or will you?"
Bigusro licked his lips, watching Sting with keen interest. He certainly didn't believe that Laxus would be interested in such low-level foes.
"I'll do it!"
However, Laxus was still as surprising as ever. The drink in his cup, which was still half full, was downed in one gulp. Then Laxus stood up, and at that moment, an aura emanated from him, causing the electrical appliances around to flicker uncontrollably.
"Thunder!"
Outside, the sky was clear, yet at that instant, a bolt of lightning as thick as a person's arm descended, undoubtedly a sudden strike, landing directly in the tavern.
What was even more terrifying was that aside from those who had come to provoke Laxus, no one else in the room was harmed by the lightning. The enormous bolt split into countless thin strands of electricity upon striking down, each one perfectly controlled and not a single strand harmed anyone else.
"Who on earth are you?"
The leader of those who had come to trouble Laxus trembled as he looked at him. He could hardly believe that such a terrifying figure could be some unknown nobody.
At this moment, Laxus had already walked to the door. After hearing the other's words, he exchanged smiles with everyone from the Thunder God Clan. Laxus lifted the hem of his shirt, revealing a spot just above his left abdomen. Sting showed his left hand's back, Bigusro stuck out his tongue, and Evangeline revealed her right chest.
"Fairy Tail!"
Meanwhile, in the distant city where the Magic Council was located, the council members were discussing the recent mission against the Dark Guild. Although everyone had bypassed the Magic Council's authority this time, if they remained unaware of what was happening at this point, it would truly be a serious matter. Most of this situation stemmed from Newton's actions; thus, they naturally wanted to take action against Fairy Tail. However, it wouldn't be easy. Let’s not forget that three of the Ishgar Four Kings were responsible for rebuilding the Magic Council, one of whom was also a founding member of Fairy Tail—not to mention that there were others in the current Magic Council as well.
"You want to deal with Fairy Tail?"
A haughty voice rang out. If Laxus exuded an air of having everything under control, then this individual conveyed an attitude of looking down on everyone else.
With this voice, every member of the Magic Council felt a headache coming on because this person had been involved since the reestablishment of the Magic Council a year ago—Vogdela had entered at that time and was considered an elder-level figure due to his formidable combat strength as captain of the first combat unit. Not to mention that he had come with a girl who excelled in ancient script magic and had deciphered most of what remained from the Magic Council while glaring angrily at them. It was easy to guess their identities: Gajeel and Reby. After leaving, they initially sought some kind of adventure but happened to encounter Vogdela preparing to reestablish the Magic Council. Who would have thought these two would end up here as if it were destined?
Although the two individuals were indeed powerful, one must not forget that members of Fairy Tail, whether obedient or otherwise, naturally possessed a knack for causing trouble or provoking others. Moreover, since these two had left Fairy Tail, any trouble they stirred up would not be the guild's responsibility but rather that of the Magic Council. It was precisely this that had the members of the Magic Council on edge. They couldn't help but marvel at how remarkable Makarov had been to survive so long under the influence of such characters.
"Don't be like that, Gajeel. You know everyone is just doing their part."
Vogd felt quite troubled and then shared another piece of news.
"I heard that your guild's Natsu has announced his return. Aren't you going back?"
"Of course I'm going back! But are you planning to deal with our guild?"
Gajeel was not about to let these guys off easily; he had already caught wind of their intentions.
"Alright, alright, we're just doing our jobs."
Not only Vogd, but several others felt the same way. Despite their grievances against Fairy Tail, they all understood that the guild's strength was not something they could afford to ignore. Some matters were beyond what the fighters of the Magic Council could handle; they still needed capable individuals to resolve them.
"Hmph, fine! Since you're all so worried, let me go and bring those guys back! Hahaha! I'm off to catch some people!"
With that, Gajeel dragged Reby away amidst the helpless gazes of the Magic Council members.
