Poluchika looked at Gray with considerable annoyance, while Gray had something resembling black tattoos on his body, appearing fierce and terrifying.
"I can't help it. It's not something I can just stop using. I have to find the Book of End and destroy it. This is the mission my father gave me, and I will complete it."
Gray paused for a moment before continuing.
"Don't worry, if I really do turn into a demon, I'll ask Natsu and the others to kill me."
Gray seemed quite calm about it, but then a voice interrupted.
"Really? I've recorded what you just said. I'm considering whether or not to hand it over to Zhubian..."
Newton leaned against the door, holding a Magic Crystal in his hand.
"Newton? You..."
Gray looked somewhat embarrassed.
"Alright, alright, just joking. But even if you really do become a demon, would you be willing to abandon us and go to your death alone? By then, if Natsu ranks up to S-Class before you, I won't be responsible for him dancing on your grave."
Gray wanted to refute Newton's words but ultimately could only smile bitterly and shake his head.
"What brings you here?"
"You're not even going to argue back? You've really seen through the world, huh? Don't worry, it's just a demon. Miraj has the power of a demon too, and I haven't seen her turn into one. Power doesn't have a distinction between evil or good; what ultimately shapes it depends on the kind of person using it. Besides, the old man is still over on the continent. Do you really want to go die like this?"
Newton still hadn't come over to explain what he was doing, continuing to ramble on about random things.
"Hey, hey, stop talking about other stuff. Just tell me why you're here."
Gray was really fed up with him.
"Alright, alright. We're planning to go to war against the Dark Guild soon. Are you interested in helping out? Or you could consider it a commission."
"What are the specifics?"
Even if it was just a casual help, Gray would still go, especially since it was a commission.
"Well, since you have the power of a demon now, I was thinking of having you pretend to be a Dark Mage. Plus, we can use that black... tattoo of yours to cover the Fairy Tail emblem."
Newton touched the black substance on Gray's body; it felt just like skin.
"Can that thing change according to your will?"
Gray nodded, and then the black material moved like a thin film across his body, completely covering his right shoulder and obscuring the Fairy Tail emblem.
"Very good. This is some information related to the Dark Guild. I hope you can memorize it quickly; it might come in handy later. Also, we'll need you to guide us a bit during this."
Newton then handed over the items prepared by himself and others to Gray, and shared the relevant plans with him.
"Using a town as bait? Are you sure that's a good idea?"
Gray frowned, concerned that this might put those people in danger.
"It's fine. We'll have Mage infiltrate the town and evacuate the residents. They can choose to leave or wait until the situation is resolved. If anyone doesn't want to leave, several members of the Guild will be there to handle any emergencies. The ones going will be elite members from various Guilds, so you don't need to worry about that."
After hearing Newton's words, Gray finally nodded in agreement.
"Alright, when should I go?"
"Just come a little later. Although this plan is set, there are still some details to work out. No need to rush. Shouldn't you inform Zhubian first? Otherwise, she might think I've taken you somewhere, and if she comes looking for you, I might not be able to handle it."
Newton's comment caught Gray off guard, and he looked at Newton with some embarrassment.
"I understand. I'll go over later. Do you want to come with me to see Zhubian?"
Honestly, Gray wasn't confident he could persuade Zhubian on his own. Since it was Newton who asked for his help, it seemed only right to ask Newton to assist in convincing her.
The two weren't currently staying at Fairy Tail; instead, they were out searching for ways to become stronger. Their main reason for returning this time was to treat the mysterious black substance affecting Gray and to have Poluchika check if it posed any danger to him. Zhubian was just in a nearby house.
"Lord Gray~"
It was as if Zhubian had installed a detector for Gray. Before he and Newton even entered the room, the door burst open, and in a leap, he was hanging onto Gray, sniffing at the scent on him.
"Lord Gray, your body..."
"It's nothing..."
Gray had initially thought about asking Newton for help, who was standing nearby, but Newton simply shrugged his shoulders, munching on some snacks he had pulled out from who knows where, showing no intention of interrupting the two. So Gray had no choice but to focus on the person in front of him.
"As long as Ms. Poluchika and Newton are here, as long as I’m not overwhelmed by any malice among them, everything will be fine."
"That's good to hear, that's good to hear..."
Zhubian let out a long breath and then noticed what Gray was looking at.
"Newton?"
"Ah, right, I..."
Newton quickly followed up with a response, startling Zhubian as a water balloon came flying toward him. But a cup appeared in Newton's hand, catching a full glass of water effortlessly.
"This tastes nice; is this your unique welcoming ritual?"
"Sorry."
"I'm sorry," Zhubian said, feeling indifferent towards Newton. It was only because if Newton could manage to win over Gray, then he would take care of the wedding arrangements. After that, Newton would be no different from Zhubian's biological parents.
"Please come in, please come in."
Zhubian hurriedly welcomed Newton inside with enthusiasm.
"Gray, is there something Newton needs to discuss?"
"Um..."
Then Gray shared everything that Newton had entrusted to him with Zhubian.
"I want to go too!"
As expected, Zhubian insisted on joining Gray, wanting to infiltrate the Dark Guild together.
"No way."
Newton and Gray rejected her in unison. The two of them reasoned with her and appealed to her emotions. In the end, they managed to pacify Zhubian with various personal items of Gray's and a series of unequal treaties. Thus, the plan regarding the Dark Guild began.
