A massive vine shot out from behind Newton, aiming to impale him. He ducked just in time, feeling as if a patch of his scalp had been scraped away.
"How peculiar. I thought I'd have to take you on one by one. Where are Silver and Kis?"
"Oh, it seems you've become quite familiar with our Underworld Gate. So, it appears you're prepared with methods to deal with me. I must admit, your tactics against the others have surprised me."
Mardo observed Newton with keen interest, while Newton scrutinized Mardo in return. The latter resembled a priest more than a demon; if the book he held were a Bible, it would fit perfectly.
"Honestly, this isn't my first time paying attention to you. Although I haven't mentioned it to anyone, I was informed about you during your battles with the Six Demon Generals. Then there was Demon Heart; that fellow named Hades, although defeated by you, did not die. Before he was absorbed by my subordinates, I had a chance to spar with him. I must say, his mastery of dark magic is impressive among humans—close to the depths of the abyss. Humans are truly an incredible race; no matter how weak they may be, as long as they possess talent and determination, they can grow into formidable beings. Unlike us, do you know how much effort we expended to reach this level?"
"What does that have to do with me? The future of humanity is always limitless."
Newton replied matter-of-factly.
"You are merely creations of humanity, incomparable to them."
Mardo had no intention of arguing with Newton because he was right.
"However, that is only true when you humans possess magic. If magic were to vanish, could you still reach such heights?"
Newton looked at him skeptically. What was Mardo trying to achieve? Discussing life with him here seemed irrelevant to what Mardo was preparing to do. Was he merely stalling for time? But for what purpose? Ah, Fiss—everything Mardo did revolved around Fiss. The three keys must have already reached Underworld Gate; all that remained was activating Fiss's switch, and the Former Guild Master was locked away in his underground prison. Underworld Gate still had two members unaccounted for: Silver and Kis. Mardo's plan was clever—he intended to trap everyone from Fairy Tail through joy and then use those two to eliminate the Former Guild Master and take control. The idea was indeed sound; the two possessed the strength to accomplish it. However, wasn't he overestimating himself? He had claimed to be focused on Newton, yet if he truly understood him, he would know that Newton's ever-evolving tactics were his greatest threat. Did Mardo really think he could just waltz into Newton's territory?
However, the unfolding events surprised both Newton and Mardo. Newton assumed that since Mardo aimed for the Former Guild Master, he would head for his base; instead, Mardo sent his two subordinates directly to Fairy Tail's Guild location—completely different destinations.
Meanwhile, on Silver's side of things, having been there before made him very familiar with the route to Fairy Tail. He led Kis straight toward the Guild's location. However, since everyone from Fairy Tail had already engaged in battle, only the elderly and infirm remained at the Guild—more like caretakers or children. As Silver arrived, everyone tensed up immediately.
"Is this considered a return visit?"
Silver surveyed his surroundings as the air grew chillingly cold.
"Stop it!"
Romeo swung his fist toward Silver.
"Interesting, you remind me of someone. You really resemble him from back in the day."
Silver sighed and extended his hand, but the temperature emanating from it seemed capable of freezing even the soul.
"Treating a child like this is somewhat inconsistent with your identity as a member of Nine Ghosts Gate, isn't it?"
A delicate hand reached over and grasped Silver's, but in an instant, that hand turned to ice shards.
"Ginger!"
Romeo wanted to rush over, but another Ginger charged in from the other side, scooping up Romeo and carrying him away from Fairy Tail's Guild.
"Everyone get out... no, hurry and leave this place!"
Each person was either accompanied by a Ginger or donned Newton-made armor, and everyone was swiftly taken away by the Gingers.
"So this is your plan. But even if you've sent everyone away, after I kill you, I can easily catch up with those guys."
The entire Fairy Tail had transformed into a palace of ice.
"Is that so?"
In an instant, Ginger lunged forward and embraced the opponent.
"Miss, I can't handle your enthusiasm."
In an instant, Ginger transformed completely into ice. However, at this moment, it didn't matter to Ginger if this body was destroyed; he had firmly locked onto his opponent. Then, the entire Fairy Tail guild hall and everything else began to glow, simultaneously emitting terrifying energy.
"Boom!"
The entire Fairy Tail had been modified by Newton. Although these structures were usually used for defense, if they exploded directly, the power would be even more horrifying. There was no need to worry about the town's safety because during the earlier battle with the Underworld Gate, Newton had anticipated the possibility of their home being attacked and had assigned Ginger to oversee the relocation of the entire town from the very beginning. After much effort, everyone had successfully moved away, leaving the guild for last. They initially thought that this place had the strongest defenses, but unexpectedly, those defenses were breached so easily. Fortunately, everyone was safely evacuated.
The townspeople were sent to Newton's secret base, while the guild members were immediately transported to other guilds.
"Kis!"
Silver was indifferent; although most of the ice had been shattered and he himself had sustained significant injuries, Kis rushed over immediately, and Silver's body began to recover rapidly.
"Did you find Crawford?"
Kis shook his head, sensing no presence of any dead bodies around.
"Let's go!"
Silver led Kis in the direction where everyone else was retreating.
