Newton was surprisingly unharmed, which was somewhat unexpected for the Underworld Gate. Logically speaking, Mardo's spell could annihilate enemies in an instant, and the chance of escaping with just Lucy was already a million-to-one shot. Now, with Newton also surviving, it seemed almost unbelievable.
In fact, Newton's escape was largely thanks to the moment when the pink substance enveloped his body. He used the Philosopher's Stone to create a 'body' around himself. This body was, of course, fake; its structure was highly unreasonable and would shatter with even the slightest movement. However, it served perfectly to withstand Mardo's spell. After deflecting the attack with the fake body, Newton concealed his magical fluctuations and began to explore the entire Underworld Beast. During his exploration, he learned many things that Frenzied Blossom had not disclosed to him. For instance, demons were merely a term created by others for beings that Jelf had conjured; they referred to themselves as Aetlias. Each demon called itself by this name. This revelation clarified one thing: End was Aetlias Natsu Dragneel. Natsu was not truly human but a genuine demon.
With this understanding, it became clear that the book could not be destroyed. Every demon was linked to a book in some way; if that book—End—were to be destroyed, Natsu would likely perish as well.
Additionally, Newton discovered that these demons were not created merely for amusement or as an army but with the intent to kill Jelf. Knowing about Jelf's curse, Newton wasn't surprised by their suicidal plans. Unfortunately, these demons were nowhere near capable enough; even Mardo, known as the King of the Underworld, was no match for Jelf and appeared as helpless as a child before him. Moreover, it was unclear where Mardo had obtained his information, but he believed that eliminating all magic from this world would allow End to resurrect. Thus, the Aetlias began preparing to eradicate magic from the world in order to fulfill Jelf's wishes.
Newton found it strange that this world seemed to harbor a grudge against magic; it frequently sought to eliminate all magic globally. Even Jelf himself could not exist without magic. Moreover, eradicating magic from an entire world was no simple task. In Edras, it had been feasible only because that world originally possessed little magic and due to the connection between two worlds. The idea that a group of magical bombs could eliminate all magic from this world seemed absurd to Newton; he thought that if they tried, they might end up collapsing the continent without achieving their goal.
As Newton fought and interrogated his way through, he initially planned to wipe out everyone in the Underworld Gate. However, he suddenly heard sounds of battle and wondered who could still be alive in such circumstances. Since there was fighting happening, he couldn't just stand by.
Fortunately for him, if he had delayed or ignored it for even a moment longer, Lucy would have truly lost a key.
"Newton! You're here! That's such a relief!" Lucy exclaimed, visibly relaxing.
"Aquarius, you should head back now; I'll take care of Lucy..."
At this point, Aquarius was already battered and bruised. She had prepared herself for the sacrifice of her key but felt a wave of relief upon seeing Newton appear at this critical moment. Although Aquarius had indeed sustained injuries and could perform triple openings, it still took a toll on her magical energy. Sending Aquarius back now seemed like the best option.
"Newton, are you alright?"
Leo approached Newton, and Taurus followed closely behind. Now, with Newton and two Celestial Spirits on this side, there were three demons and one Rami on the other. Newton took out a vial of potion and handed it to Lucy.
"Quickly recover your injuries and magic power, Lucy. You need to deal with that Furan Mars, the one who can absorb Spells. Make sure to coordinate well with your Celestial Spirit."
"You want me to take on two demons by myself?"
Leo looked at Newton in disbelief.
"You can't be serious. While it's true that you're strong, taking on two at once is a bit much."
"Don't worry, it'll be fine."
Newton glanced at the storm and Trafas; two demons were nothing he couldn't handle.
"Whoosh!"
The wind howled again, but this time it was different. With Trafas working in tandem with the storm, a massive amount of water surged along with the wind, truly forming a tempest aimed directly at Newton.
However, Newton slammed his hand on the ground, and a wall of earth rose up. The wind and water whipped around like blades but could not penetrate that seemingly thin earthen barrier.
"Trafas, increase the output!"
Immediately, the storm and water surged to double their previous intensity, instantly demolishing the seemingly indestructible wall of earth.
"Not right!"
The Storm was quite alert and immediately wrapped the wind around itself, transforming the sharp, attacking gusts into a protective armor. Unfortunately, it was still a moment too late; from a rather bizarre angle, a dark cannon muzzle was aimed directly at the Storm.
"Boom!"
In an instant, the Storm lost all sensory perception of its surroundings. All that filled its ears was a deafening roar, and its vision was engulfed in darkness. Its head buzzed painfully, and every part of its body throbbed with excruciating pain. The wind that had almost turned into armor was blown away.
Newton appeared beside the Storm out of nowhere, his right hand transformed into an enormous cannon. A shell exploded at close range, and even with the resilience of a demon's body, the impact left the Storm severely injured. Moreover, the internal damage was quite serious.
Trafas realized that this couldn't continue; he hadn't expected Newton to incapacitate the Storm so quickly. Water surged over him instantly. In truth, he lacked confidence in facing Newton on land, but he believed that in water, an ordinary person like Newton would need oxygen. Once deprived of it, he could drown. Even if he couldn't drown his opponent, Trafas felt confident that he could withstand the previous blow due to his defensive capabilities.
"Gurgle..."
Newton was completely submerged without resistance. Just as Trafas prepared to charge forward and attack with glee, Newton suddenly turned around, wearing a strange mask. A sphere in his hand exploded, clouding the water instantly.
