The demon responsible for protecting Crawford was dealt with by Erza, and the process of bringing Crawford back went smoothly without any incidents.
"You dare treat me like this! Let me go, I am the original President!"
Crawford shouted frantically from within a transparent prison cell, but Newton looked on coldly from outside.
"This guy is the original President? I think I understand why you were able to enter the Magic Council so easily back then."
Newton turned to Gerard beside him. It was hard to believe that someone without any identification could rise to the position of Speaker, while Gerard, despite his strength, had faced more obstacles. Now, Newton felt that there was an undeniable connection between this leader and the situation.
Gerard felt somewhat awkward. Although he had indeed earned some points through his own abilities, much of it was due to leveraging his wealth—essentially bribery—that had allowed him to ascend to the position of Speaker.
"By the way, what did you discuss with that guy Sera?"
Gerard was curious about what Newton had talked about with Sera in order to ensure Elfman's safe departure and possibly set up a trap. They had agreed on a location and time before everything turned chaotic.
This wasn't just about Sera; there was also a wolf being kept in Newton's cell. The Nine Ghosts Gate hadn't done anything yet, but they had already captured and killed a third of their forces. Gerard now wondered if letting Newton continue would lead to the complete annihilation of Nine Ghosts Gate.
"It was just an arrangement to meet up; we can discuss details later. I didn't expect to talk about much anyway; the key is to see if we can capture them this time."
Newton didn't plan on bringing many people this time because he would be facing a demon capable of issuing commands. Bringing too many could lead to them being manipulated. Although this posed its own risks, he wasn't sure if the other members of Nine Ghosts Gate would be involved.
"I suppose we could go with you," Gerard suggested, thinking it might be too dangerous for Newton to go alone.
"No, I plan to take Mira and Erza with me."
Newton had his reasons for choosing these two. Miraj could absorb demons, which might prove invaluable when facing one. As for Erza, it wasn't that she was ruthless; it was that she wouldn't hold back when it mattered. If Newton were controlled, Erza would know exactly what to do—just as long as she didn't kill him in the process. The two would support each other; if one got controlled, the other would act decisively without hesitation.
"Alright then."
Although Gerard wanted to go back to the past, he realized that his previous life seemed to hold no meaning. It was better to stay here. Newton also felt some concern, wondering if the other party was trying to distract them. If they were attacked here, it would be a problem for their guild.
"When are we going?"
Newton thought for a moment.
"Let's wait until Mira has dealt with the Wolf. That way, we can avoid any interference from that guy. As for him..."
Newton shook his head.
"I'll have Jiang handle it when the time comes; you don't need to worry about it."
As the former master of Paradise Tower, killing was not unfamiliar to Gerard. However, Newton did not want him to walk that path again. After all, since Gerard had decided to atone for his past, even though Crawford indirectly caused so many deaths, having Gerard kill him would not be good for Gerard either.
Gerard did not object; he merely nodded and sighed, looking at Newton with a wry smile.
"I'm starting to think I should leave a spot for you in our guild."
"Probably necessary. You know what I've been doing lately—whether it's this time or when I unified the Dark Guild—I'm just trouble. Once that gets out, you guys might be the only ones willing to take me in."
Newton joked and then called Mira over. After she absorbed the Wolf, they summoned Erza, and the three of them headed toward the place they had agreed upon with Sera.
The agreed location was a forest. They chose this spot considering the possibility of battle; if a fight broke out, it would minimize damage to the surroundings.
"We're here; are you not coming out?"
This time, neither Newton nor Mira wore armor; they were dressed quite casually. The three of them looked like they were out for a picnic, especially with Erza carrying a large amount of luggage that made it seem even more like an outing.
"It's just a bunch of humans. You're the one who spoke with me back then; you sound just as annoying as your voice."
Sera emerged from the bushes, clearly displeased with Newton and his companions. It was likely that if it weren't for the name Frenzied Blossom, she would have attacked them the moment she laid eyes on them.
"Tell me, where did you hear the name Frenzied Blossom, and where is she now?"
Frenzied Blossom had not returned to the Guild for quite some time. Although she was out searching for soldiers to strengthen their ranks, Sera felt that her absence had stretched on for too long, causing her some worry.
"Ah, Frenzied Blossom? She has been invited to our Guild as a guest and is currently having a wonderful time," Newton replied, observing Sera closely. He knew this couldn't be the truth; if it were, they would have to engage in battle immediately. It was better to stall for time since they were clearly not alone.
"Is that so? It seems our decision was indeed correct."
"Then why waste time? Let's just deal with them here!"
A particularly burly demon stepped forward, boasting four arms above and tentacle-like appendages below, accompanied by Newton's old acquaintance, Minerva.
"Let me tear the fairy's wings apart!" Minerva shouted as she charged toward Newton and his companions.
