"Come forth, dragon of four hundred years ago, descend from the ancient times, heed my command, and help me reign over this world!"
As Future Rogue spoke, the Eclipse Gate slowly opened. A fearsome claw emerged from within, accompanied by a terrifying aura that felt entirely different from any beast Newton had encountered before; even Gildarts might pale in comparison. After all, Gildarts was left with nothing but a soul at that moment, and a soul was a completely different state from one at their peak.
"Lucy, Yukino Aguria, close the door!"
The instant the dragon emerged, Newton realized he had miscalculated. Indeed, not every dragon could be compared to Acnologia, but even so, ordinary dragons were definitely not something the current Mages could contend with. It wasn't that they couldn't kill a dragon; it was just that attempting to do so now would come at an enormous cost.
"President, notify the other Guild members that the Eclipse Gate has been opened."
Newton immediately communicated through Ginger to have Mavis prepare for battle.
Meanwhile, Future Rogue unleashed a terrifying amount of magic power; it was no wonder he was the future Rogue. The magic emanating from him was far beyond what the current Rogue could muster.
"White Shadow Dragon's Slash!"
Countless black and white lines appeared around Future Rogue, sharp as blades, cutting through the surrounding soldiers like paper as they fell to the ground in pieces.
"Alchemy!"
Numerous steel shields emerged from the ground to block the incoming attack. Newton charged toward Future Rogue while Future Rogue's target was Lucy and the others behind Newton.
"How surprising! I thought I would keep you unconscious for longer. White Roar of the Shadow Dragon!"
Newton placed his hands on the ground, which transformed into quicksand. A roar followed Future Rogue's movement and shot up into the air.
"Seven Star Sword!"
Suddenly, someone attacked from one side; seven shining stars appeared in the sky and unleashed laser-like beams of magical energy.
"Divine Radiance!"
Not only Gerard but also Ultia and the remaining members of Witch's Sin joined in. Almost everyone simultaneously launched various spells at Future Rogue. However, unexpectedly, an enormous claw blocked all of their magical attacks.
"Boom!"
All of their attacks struck the enormous claw without any effect, not even causing a scratch.
"Hahaha!"
Future Rogge laughed maniacally.
"Did you see that? This is the power of a dragon! I am invincible now!"
"How could this be? How is it possible..."
Emerald wore a face of confusion and despair. She had originally thought she was saving this world, but never expected to become the very cause of its destruction.
"This is not the time to cry, Alcadios! Gather your Order of the Cherry Blossom Knights and prepare to intercept the dragons. It’s time to sacrifice everything for your country!"
Newton shouted loudly, then turned to Lucy. Fortunately, Lucy and Yukino Aguria had not made any mistakes. The opening of the Zodiac Gate had already exceeded what a Mage could achieve. The two were mostly communicating with their Celestial Spirits, who would open the gate themselves. The twelve Celestial Spirits of the Zodiac appeared simultaneously. Although they knew there were many jokers among them, it was still reassuring to have them at this moment.
The twelve Celestial Spirits stood on either side of the Eclipse Gate and exerted their strength together, slowly closing the door. What concerned Newton was that Future Rogge simply watched this unfold without any intention of stopping them as the Eclipse Gate was being shut.
"You know, I've thought about it. With my abilities, controlling tens of thousands of dragons is indeed a bit difficult, so having you close the gate is actually a good thing for me..."
Future Rogge's words made everyone's hearts sink.
"Controlling tens of thousands of dragons? The fact that you can control the dragon beneath you is already incredible enough..."
Newton retorted sarcastically. This time, the Eclipse Gate released Nine Dragons, but aside from the one near Rogue, the other eight either began rampaging wildly or simply flew away, or even obstructed the destructive dragon.
"Looks like these dragons don’t listen to you very well..."
Newton felt a sense of relief upon seeing this. Four hundred years ago, according to Gildarts, not all dragons were hostile towards humans; a considerable number were friendly. This meant that having some dragons on their side made things much easier for them—at least they wouldn’t have to face so many dragons at once. However, on the other hand, Newton felt somewhat helpless; he had originally thought that relying on his own strength would make even ten thousand dragons manageable. But now, just a few dragons could destroy them a hundred times over.
Future Rogge's face darkened slightly. Even though he had experimented in the future, he had to evade Acnologia, which meant he could only control a limited number of dragons. He had abandoned the dragon, as the goal back then was simply too great. Now, he never expected that the dragons he could control would be so few.
"So what? Even if there are only a few dragons, you are no match for us..."
Future Rogge unleashed his magic with all his might and realized that he could control the dragon beneath him—a massive creature covered in rock—as well as another giant dragon that was pitch black. However, there were still several dragons attacking the humans, while opposing them were two dragons: one wrapped in azure wind, its every attack seeming to tremble through the air, and the other completely encased in metal, clashing hard against the Rock Dragon, causing rocks to fall from its opponent.
"Even if there are two dragons on your side, you are still no match for the remaining few dragons!"
Future Rogge knew that he could actually control only three dragons, but that was enough.
"Emerald Dragon? Fire Dragon?"
Rogue was right, but two of those dragons caught Newton's attention. One looked familiar; it was clearly Gildarts. The other was engulfed in flames. Well, that one could be dealt with by Natsu; after all, Newton had yet to see anything that fire couldn't consume.
"No, I actually think this fight can be won..."
Newton smiled. From a distance, an enormous object flew toward them—not just one, but several. Before Future Rogge could even discern what they were, he felt a massive fist strike the dragon beneath him, sending it flying backward.
"The war... has only just begun!"
