"So will we become dragons in the future?"
Although Gildarts had been revived by Newton, his soul was extremely weak. After being brought back to life, he fell directly into a deep sleep. Newton had no way to restore Gildarts' soul, and more critically, he couldn't guarantee how much of Gildarts' memories would remain. For Newton, Gildarts' memories were the most precious treasure; the Gate of Truth could exchange knowledge, but it couldn't exchange history. Newton had no means to learn about everything that happened four hundred years ago; the key now lay in Gildarts' memories.
As for Natsu and the others' concerns, Newton didn't know how to comfort them. Although he had discovered this information long ago, he chose to keep it hidden because he didn't know how to resolve it. Now that Gildarts had exposed it, Newton felt somewhat at a loss.
"I don't think it will be that simple..."
This time, it was Mavis who spoke up. Although she hadn't lived through that era, as a top-tier Mage herself, she had seen quite a bit of Dragon Slayer Magic throughout her life. Some of those she encountered were much stronger than Natsu and his friends, yet she had never seen any of them turn into dragons.
Mavis sharing her thoughts relieved everyone; after all, having an elder in the family is like having a treasure. Her extensive experience and perspective were unmatched by anyone else.
"Then there shouldn't be any problems?"
Natsu wouldn't give up his magic over such matters. On one hand, it was something his father had passed down to him, just like that scarf—either a relic or a connection between him and his father. Natsu would definitely not abandon it. On the other hand, giving up one's magic as a Mage was simply unthinkable.
Fortunately, it seemed that nothing would go wrong for the time being, so they could temporarily set this issue aside. The more pressing concern remained the Eclipse Gate. Perhaps because the kingdom prioritized the Eclipse Gate so highly, all their forces had been dispatched there, which explained why there was no response to the significant commotion caused underground by Newton and the others.
Mavis and Newton naturally didn't believe that the kingdom was unaware of what lay beneath; it was more likely that they considered the Eclipse Gate to be more important than whatever was happening underground.
"President, what should we do next?"
Newton wasn't particularly skilled in strategy, so it was best to leave such professional matters to those who were experts in the field.
"Honestly, can't you show some understanding for your seniors? What good are you if everything is left to me?"
Mavis was quite dissatisfied; she still had to formulate the strategy for Fairy Tail. The final round had no competition rules left, meaning all teams would participate, and the last team standing would be the victor. It was simple and brutal, but after several rounds of competition, everyone was fatigued to varying degrees. Moreover, they had a general understanding of the participants from other guilds, so there was no chance of being defeated by some mysterious magic due to a lack of information. Thus, the final match would come down to sheer strength, along with corresponding strategies.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry. To whom much is given, much is expected. As you can see, after this final round, the Great Magic Games will conclude. So if Future Rogge plans to pull any tricks, it will have to be tonight. I'm preparing to head directly to the Eclipse Gate; at that point, I’ll leave the Training Ground to the President."
Newton felt helpless; they were at the last step now. If anything went wrong, it would truly be troublesome.
"Alright, alright, I'm just a tired soul..."
Mavis waved her hand, but her face was quite excited. The style of Fairy Tail hadn't changed just because Makarov was in charge; it had always been this way since the time of its First Generation founder. They thrived on causing a bit of trouble; it had started long ago. The title of strategist wasn't given lightly; it was earned through countless battles. When Fairy Tail was first established, the world was far more chaotic than it is now.
"Then I’ll leave it to you..."
"Be careful yourself. Since they didn't even care about the commotion we’re causing underground, it only means that the importance of the Eclipse Gate has exceeded our imagination. Their forces and inspections near the Eclipse Gate will likely surpass what we expect, so you must protect Lucy and the others well..."
Mavis reminded him earnestly. Even she wasn't optimistic about this war; if only a few dragons emerged, that would be fine. But if there really were ten thousand dragons, Mavis would advise Newton to take Fairy Tail to the island and wait another ten or eight years.
"No problem."
Newton nodded. He knew that even if something happened to him, he couldn't let anything happen to the two Celestial Spirit Mages.
While Newton and Mavis were discussing their next steps here, others were also deliberating on tonight's events elsewhere.
"Is everything really okay down there, my lord?"
Emerald looked at Future Rogge with some concern. She had already come to see this person from the future as a savior and believed wholeheartedly in everything he said.
"It's fine..."
Future Rogge was well aware of the situation underground, but in reality, the Dragon Bone held no value for him. It was merely a dragon's graveyard. Even if it were discovered, it would not have any Influence on the plan for Eclipse Gate. It might be better to let the matter of the Dragon Tomb divert some attention elsewhere. As long as he could release ten thousand dragons when the time came, Future Rogge himself wasn't very confident. Years later, with the dragon race and then Acnologia ruling the world, he had invented magic to control dragons in order to save his own world. However, how effective it would be and whether he could truly control ten thousand dragons remained uncertain. Future Rogge wondered if he should collaborate with Newton and others. Once Eclipse Gate was opened and ten thousand dragons were unleashed, it would be dangerous for him as well. The most critical issue was his current self. Since he hadn't spent much time with Newton, Future Rogge didn't know what kind of person he truly was. If Newton didn't intend to harm him, that would be fine; otherwise, if his current self were to die, then his future self would surely vanish too.
"It seems I still need to make some preparations..."
And so, amidst their respective preparations, the final descent of the Great Magic Games arrived.
