The third round passed just like that. Future Lucy's performance in Fairy Tail didn't pique Marlon's interest much; without the Zodiac Key, Lucy was just an ordinary Mage, not worth his attention.
However, the fourth match caught many people's eyes because the first battle of the third round was a contest called Water Battle. Essentially, it took place inside a giant water sphere where everyone fought in a chaotic free-for-all. If someone was knocked out, they lost, and points were distributed based on rankings. As you can imagine, in the water, girls couldn't wear heavy clothing, so almost everyone showed up in swimsuits, instantly transforming the atmosphere into something wild.
Unfortunately, the match itself wasn't particularly exciting. Minerva from Sword-Biting Tiger took to the stage directly. If Minerva was still somewhat distant from Erza and others, then Lucy and her companions were no match for Minerva at all. Even when Lucy summoned her closest Celestial Spirit, Aquarius, to assist her, she could only manage a second place against Minerva's elusive Spatial Magic. Nevertheless, this was enough to leave an impression; Lucy managed to showcase her strength. Compared to others in Fairy Tail, she might have seemed weak during her earlier battle against Raven Tail, but once Aquarius unleashed her terrifying power in the water, it became clear that she was formidable. If Minerva hadn't used her spatial abilities to directly transfer Lucy out of harm's way, she might not have been able to withstand Lucy's onslaught.
Despite her narrow defeat, Lucy had shown everyone her capabilities. However, the subsequent battles turned out to be quite frustrating because Raven Tail lost their qualification to compete. This left seven teams remaining, making it difficult to divide them fairly. Since Fairy Tail had two teams participating, they were required to merge into one. However, their scores would be calculated based on the lowest-performing team, which left everyone in Fairy Tail feeling disgruntled. Yet this situation provided Marlon with an opportunity.
"Since the kingdom won't allow us to continue as two teams in the competition, let's just combine into one," he said. "Lucy will come with me; I'll arrange for her to be close to Eclipse Gate and ensure she can reach it quickly. It would be best if I could have some of my people with me as well. The Great Magic Games only last five days and we're already halfway through; it's time for us to get busy."
In the end, Lucy decided to stay with Marlon. Miraj opted out of fighting because she disliked conflict. Laxus and Erza took charge of leading the remaining team while Natsu chose to stay behind due to his connections with Rogue and Sting. Gray planned to settle scores with the Memory Shaping Mage and stayed along with Zhubian.
This team ensured strong combat capability; both Laxus and Erza were powerful fighters. Meanwhile, Gray and Zhubian together could potentially make a significant impact.
On the other side, Wendy, Lily, and Miraj joined Marlon's team but not as medical personnel. Although Marlon had replaced all medical staff with his own people, there was still some distance from Eclipse Gate. Therefore, Marlon chose to disguise them differently. Those who could use transformation magic would act as guards or maids infiltrating nearby palaces close to Eclipse Gate.
Marlon remained in the medical room while Future Lucy didn't allow anyone else into the palace. It wasn't because they lacked Celestial Spirit keys; after years of battling dragons, their experience was unmatched. Thus, Marlon felt it would be beneficial for Lucy to undergo some training within Fairy Tail as a temporary measure.
After the naval battle concluded, this round of matches turned into a more enjoyable format with pairs competing against each other since there were only six teams left—resulting in three matches overall. The Azure Wind Antelope crushed the Four-Headed Hound effortlessly. The battle between Serpent Empress's Scale and Mermaid's Heel was evenly matched and quite thrilling. Next up was Fairy Tail versus Sword-Biting Tiger—a match that many eagerly anticipated.
Natsu and Gajeel were well-known figures; everyone recognized them as Fire Dragon and Iron Dragon respectively. On the opposing side were also famous contenders: Dragon Slayer Duo Sting and Rogue had made quite a name for themselves over recent years with their impressive skills and reputations. The excitement surrounding this battle between four Dragon Slayer Mages was palpable.
However, when the fight began, it surprised everyone because Natsu and Gajeel utterly dominated Sting and Rogue; they seemed like children compared to them. To enjoy himself even more during the fight, Natsu placed Gajeel on a mine cart and rolled him down through the Arena's underground passageway. This amusing turn of events led Marlon to discover something intriguing amidst all the chaos.
"Sir, it seems there are some issues with Gajeel."
Ginger had placed tracking devices on everyone, so he quickly learned where Gajeel was. A large part of the underground of the royal capital had not been developed yet, which allowed Newton to take advantage of the Guild's resources to create a vast underground space. However, he did not expect that beneath the Arena lay a massive cavern, and what was inside was quite astonishing.
The cavern was filled with dragon bones; in other words, beneath the Arena was a Dragon Tomb.
"Sir, what should we do?"
Upon receiving this news, Ginger immediately informed Marlon, eager to know how to handle the Dragon Tomb. Although it mainly contained dragon remains, Dragon Bones were also high-quality materials for Alchemy.
"Let's go take a look and bring Wendy along..."
Marlon had reviewed the notes provided by Poluchika. Although only two spells were written down, both had terrifying effects—one was a powerful offensive spell, while the other could communicate with souls that had already passed away. If they were lucky, they might even be able to converse with the deceased dragon through that spell.
Ginger nodded and brought Wendy along, also adding Future Lucy to their group. Marlon notified Mavis and others; since Makarov was the President and couldn't leave openly, he sent Laxus to accompany Mavis. The group made their way to the cavern where Gajeel was located.
