On the other side, the Great Magic Games finally commenced, but this time it was filled with tension. Raven Tail immediately provoked Fairy Tail, and it seemed like a conflict could erupt at any moment.
Skipping over the preliminary rounds, let's focus on the main event. The first competition was called the Hidden Match. There were eight guilds in total, and the objective was to find and attack members of other guilds on the streets to earn points. However, hitting a dummy would result in a point deduction.
Fairy Tail sent out Gray and Zhubian for this round. Unfortunately for Gray, this situation wasn't favorable. In one-on-one combat, other guild members might not necessarily be his match. However, using dummies for cover, Zhubian mistakenly targeted Gray. The key factor was that a participant from Sword-Biting Tiger named Lucifer, a Memory Shaping Mage, found it easy to remember everyone's appearance and even their breathing patterns. As a result, Sword-Biting Tiger effortlessly secured first place.
Moreover, due to Raven Tail's interference, it was clear they aimed solely to eliminate Fairy Tail. They ignored everyone else running past them and focused solely on attacking Gray. Ultimately, Fairy Tail ended up with a pitiful score of zero points and one point, leaving everyone in Fairy Tail feeling frustrated.
"Damn it!"
Gray slammed his fist on the table. Zero points was an absolute disgrace for someone who wanted to bring honor to his guild.
"Don't be so tense; it's only the first round. There are still many days ahead," Marlon consoled him while checking Gray and Zhubian's conditions.
"Well, nothing seems wrong. You're good to go; next!"
Gray nodded helplessly and left with Zhubian.
"It looks like they're in quite a predicament," Jiang remarked in disbelief. After all, zero points seemed excessively harsh.
"That's normal; Raven Tail has always had a grudge against us. Targeting Gray specifically meant they wouldn't achieve anything good. Plus, that memory-shaping magic has its unique advantages. In this match, we really didn't have any advantage," Marlon shook his head.
"Moreover, they've been away for seven years. Although I've trained them, how much they can actually absorb is still questionable. This failure will serve as a lesson for them. Their strength is indeed impressive, but they're still far from being the strongest."
Indeed, because of their initial defeat, Fairy Tail's morale took a hit. However, many were determined to redeem themselves in the upcoming rounds.
The first fight was between Lucy and Freya, who had long, fiery orange hair and an overall somber appearance.
Originally, the battle between Lucy and Freya could have ended in a draw. However, Freya's tactic of using the people outside as hostages was discovered. No one expected Raven Tail to be pulling strings behind the scenes, draining Lucy's magic and causing her spells to fail, resulting in her loss.
Due to the depletion of her magic, Lucy fell into a coma and was taken to Marlon.
"Draining magic, huh?"
Marlon took out a vial of potion and held it to Lucy's lips.
"This time, Raven Tail really surprised me. I never thought that Ivan Dolea could pull off something like this."
Suddenly, there was a knock at the door. Marlon gestured for Ginger to open it. When the door swung open, they found several unfamiliar faces standing outside.
"Who are you? If you're here for treatment, what seems to be the problem?"
"Get them!"
The intruders ignored Marlon entirely and attempted to push past Ginger to enter. However, Ginger stood firm, refusing to budge.
"What do you want?"
Marlon chuckled, amused by how Ginger blocked the doorway while those outside were unable to get in.
"Damn it! Don't make us attack!"
The men outside drew their large knives, ready to strike at Ginger.
But Ginger was more direct; he caught one of the blades with his bare hands, swiftly disarming the attacker before turning and slashing at two more knives nearby.
"Clang! Clang!"
Two crisp sounds echoed through the air. Of course, the knife hadn't broken; it had merely been knocked away. However, the three people outside the door were momentarily stunned. Was this a nurse? Wasn't that a bit too much strength?
Before they could finish their thoughts, Jiang moved again, grabbing one person and flinging him backward, while Marlon held onto the other with one hand.
"Th-thank... uh..."
A syringe was plunged into the man's neck, and he promptly fell unconscious.
At that moment, the two men at the door were also taken down by Jiang and dragged inside.
"Sir, these two fellows seem to be from the Kingdom Army."
Jiang had already found information in his database that matched these three individuals.
"So, it seems the Kingdom is getting restless. Fine, let's deal with these three and lock them up in a dark room."
Jiang nodded and then left with all three of them in tow.
Meanwhile, Lucy woke up to find herself lying on a hospital bed, with a man sitting beside her. She instinctively tensed up.
"Don't be alarmed, it's me."
Marlon helplessly peeled back his synthetic skin to reveal his face as Newton.
"Newton?"
Lucy let out a sigh of relief but then remembered something.
"I'm sorry, I lost."
"That has nothing to do with you. The actions of Raven Tail this time are indeed disgusting, but remember, there are many days ahead. Don't lose heart."
Marlon gently patted Lucy's head and handed her a vial of potion once again.
Lucy's issue wasn't serious; it was merely the weakness caused by magic depletion. Once she recovered her magic and rested a bit, she would be fine.
After staying with Marlon for a while, Lucy prepared to leave, but she was stopped by him.
"Wait, let Natsu and the others come to pick you up. I'm worried that someone might pose a threat to you. Just now, someone was ready to make a move against you, so it's best to be cautious."
Natsu soon rushed over.
"Lucy! Are you okay?"
Natsu burst in with great energy but was immediately subdued by Marlon.
"Alright, this is a hospital. No need to make a scene here. Your companion is fine now; take her away."
Marlon waved his hand, allowing Natsu to take Lucy with him.
"Great, just in time. We need to get moving as well."
