"Ridiculous game, why should I listen to that guy?"
Geman was quite annoyed; after all, this guy was never the type to care about his companions, so the ugly game was nothing but a joke to him.
"If you don't listen, someone else will."
Newton shot a mocking glance at Geman before moving over to Makao, who was hanging against the wall.
"How are you holding up?"
"Not bad, but it's really embarrassing."
Being tied up wasn't too uncomfortable; it felt like being wrapped in a rice dumpling, with ropes coiling from his chest down to his ankles, and one end extending out to hang on the wall.
Newton reached out to untie the ropes.
"Don't move!"
Suddenly, a voice from the audience screamed in alarm. Newton looked over to see an ordinary middle-aged woman.
"Please, don't move! My daughter, my daughter..."
"I understand."
Newton nodded and withdrew his hand. It seemed that the woman was one of his own, but it also added a layer of insurance. He hadn't let his own people take control directly; instead, he chose another hostage and used that hostage to observe the situation.
"Don't worry, everything will be fine."
Makao merely curled his lip in response.
"I'm fine. I've seen my fair share of life-and-death situations in this line of work, so I really don't care much. You should go reassure that lady; it wouldn't be fun if her hands started shaking."
Newton nodded and approached the middle-aged woman.
"Hello, my name is Newton Isaac. It's a pleasure to meet you. May I have the honor of knowing your name?"
"You, you, you..."
"Please don't be nervous..."
Newton tried to soften his tone.
"Everyone here is among the top Mages in the kingdom. We will ensure that nothing goes wrong; you just need to trust us. By the way, have you had breakfast? Would you like some bread or something?"
"No, no thank you."
The middle-aged woman gradually relaxed her nerves and looked at Newton with gratitude.
"Are you really sure everything will be okay?"
"Rest assured."
Suddenly, Newton stood up and shouted to everyone.
"Ladies and gentlemen, I don't know if there are others among you who feel like this lady, but please trust us Mages. If something does happen, just follow the instructions given by others. I will take responsibility for the consequences."
Although Newton's words still left some people feeling anxious, many began to calm down a bit.
Seeing that things were settling down, Newton returned to the king's side.
"What should we do next?"
The king realized that he still had some lingering thoughts about that fellow named Geman.
"Are we really going to follow what that guy said?"
"What other options do we have?" Newton looked at the king with a hint of helplessness.
"The only problem now is who will be the first."
If anyone had shown a hundred percent interest in this position before, now almost everyone, except for Geman, had lost interest in it.
"Hmph, naturally it will be us, the strongest."
As expected, Geman spoke up, showing no concern for his own daughter.
"Well..."
Sting wanted to say something, but was interrupted by Newton.
"Alright, but Geman and President, please don't speak too confidently. There are many people in this world stronger than you."
"But I will be the strongest."
Geman sneered at Newton.
"Fine, then please prepare yourself, Geman and President. Just don't lose too badly in the upcoming competition."
Newton was equally unyielding, firing back without hesitation.
"Hmph."
Geman snorted coldly and turned to leave.
Newton then looked at the king, who immediately ordered all the guards and maids to leave.
"Issac, do you have something to say?"
"That's right. There were too many people earlier, so I didn't speak up. I can indeed dispel the ugly things, but I can't get close enough. The remote sensing takes some time. Even if you are destined to lose, it would be best to put up a fight and buy me some time. I beg you all."
Newton's words invigorated everyone, as it indicated that they were not entirely powerless against the ugly threat. Some were even more excited.
"Mr. Newton, should we go find out where the ugly one is?"
"Sure."
Newton nodded.
"But please be cautious, and avoid looking for anyone who might raise suspicion. Also, we need to find out who has the remote controls for the bombs and see if we can address their concerns."
Newton's plan was nearly flawless, and no one could think of a better approach; they could only proceed according to his strategy.
Everyone made their way to the arena, including the king, leaving only Newton behind.
"Sir, is everything alright?"
Ginger appeared beside Newton.
"No problem. Those bombs were made by me, and while it takes time, I can easily deal with them as long as I expand the range of the Alchemy Array. Besides, those bombs are just blanks; there’s no real danger. What I'm actually considering is whether the effect will be sufficient. Normally, one would expect a gap to form among ordinary people, but with Geman acting like that, and Minerva being his daughter, it’s clear that Sting and Rogue no longer have much loyalty to Sword-Biting Tiger. In fact, once Geman is willing to abandon his own daughter, it seals the public's perception of him."
Newton smirked slightly as he walked outside, observing the chaos of battle unfolding. On one side, everyone was eager to win; on the other, everyone seemed intent on stalling for time. The scene was almost comical.
"They're really putting on a terrible show," Newton muttered.
"But it doesn't matter; the ugly work is done. What we need now is to take the stage ourselves. The seeds of discord have already been sown. In the future, if Geman wants to continue leading Sword-Biting Tiger, he’ll have to resort to violence and oppressive policies, constantly tightening his grip on Sword-Biting Tiger. As that tension builds, sometimes all it takes is a gentle nudge to set everything off."
"Are you leaving Sword-Biting Tiger intact?" Jiang asked, somewhat confused.
"Hmph, seven years is nearly up. When the dormant Fairy Tail returns, they will need a stepping stone, won't they?"
Newton looked at Geman with keen interest.
"This Sword-Biting Tiger... is just perfect..."
