After returning, Newton met with Jin and ordered all his subordinates to launch a pursuit of Ivan Dolea, offering a nearly exorbitant bounty. Not only on the surface, but the Dark Guild also extended a helping hand to Ivan Dolea. Indeed, the Dark Guild sent an invitation to him. If Ivan Dolea dared to approach the Dark Guild, Newton would receive news about him immediately, and at that point, he would be like a fish on the chopping block for Newton.
However, to Newton's surprise, Ivan Dolea seemed to have completely vanished without a trace. There were no signs of him anywhere; not even from the Official Guild. Even though the Dark Guild had clearly shown goodwill by repelling several waves of people trying to investigate Ivan Dolea, they still could not gain his trust.
"Tsk, what a troublesome fellow."
Newton now regretted not resolving the issue with Ivan Dolea back then, even if it meant damaging his Mechanical Arm. The illusion magic was indeed quite troublesome. Newton was now contemplating whether he should replace one of his eyes with a prosthetic to increase his resistance to magic.
The situation with Ivan Dolea was like a stone thrown into the ocean, creating no ripples at all. Meanwhile, news of the Dragon King Festival gradually spread among everyone. People live their lives chasing fame and fortune, and when they learned that this competition was the best in the nation, many became interested in its prestige. This was undoubtedly an opportunity for rapid advancement, leading to a surge of new Magic Guilds springing up like mushrooms after rain. The magical development in the Fiore Kingdom had entered an unprecedented golden age. However, even if one established a Guild, participation in the Dragon King Festival required certain resources.
So where would these resources come from? The Dark Guild found itself in a difficult position; what could be quicker than earning merit by defeating them? But the Dark Guild was not an easy target, especially with their support. After all, it was impossible to truly eradicate all Dark Guilds; doing so would create significant problems. The Dark Guild was still considered a formidable ally. Thus, Newton could easily monitor the movements of these so-called new Mage Guilds through his own Guild and provide some tips to the Dark Guild, making them perceive this Circus faction as even more terrifying. Regular Guilds that faced setbacks in their hunts would often come to purchase items from Newton's Guild, allowing it to profit handsomely from both sides during this turmoil.
Newton did not remain stationed at the Guild but returned to his base to continue his experiments.
"Isaac, I'm so bored..."
Mavis wandered around Newton's laboratory out of boredom. Newton had thoroughly mastered the three great super magics of Fairy Tail by now, leaving Mavis feeling somewhat restless.
"Then let Ginger go play with you."
Newton had no other choice but felt an unshakeable sense of discomfort within himself. Although Mavis was indeed young, she was someone who loved excitement. Ever since she stayed on Wolf Island, she had only seen people during ceremonies or during the S-Class Exam; it was likely that this was the longest time she had spent around others in a century. Her lively nature began to show more as she longed for fun again after being stuck in such dull days—this was indeed tough for the First President.
Just as Newton and Mavis were chatting, Ginger walked in.
"Sir."
Ginger appeared hesitant as if there was something she wanted to tell Newton.
"What is it?"
"This time at the Great Magic Games, Fairy Tail placed seventh..."
"Isn't that good? At least it's not last."
Newton felt no surprise at this ranking; after all, he had been instrumental in saving them last time. In reality, Fairy Tail's strength had indeed declined significantly.
"Newton, go participate in the competition."
Mavis, however, was unwilling.
"Bring the armor you've developed and tell them you can take on ten by yourself."
"No way. Fairy Tail isn't just my Guild; it relies on everyone working together to keep going."
Newton shook his head and looked at Ginger.
"How's the renovation of the underground laboratory at the Guild going?"
"It's completed, and we're in the final stages of debugging."
Why should one rely solely on brute force when they could climb the technological tree?
"How's the data modeling for the Mages coming along?"
"It's all finished."
"What are you two up to?"
Mavis felt as if Newton and Ginger were involved in something significant.
"Well, you know that everyone's fighting style actually follows a fixed pattern, with habitual movements that are almost instinctual. I've had Ginger collect all the combat data from Mages we could gather and input it into a machine to create a database of Mages."
Newton remotely controlled a piece of armor to fly over.
"Then by importing the data into the armor, we can simulate combat. The magic will be handled by Magic Crystals, so energy isn't an issue."
In essence, Newton was creating models and allowing people to battle against them to gain experience points. Once they reached a level where they could anticipate their opponent's moves just by seeing their gestures, it would be akin to having a cheat sheet for fighting—its importance was self-evident.
However, this approach had its downsides; the programming was somewhat rigid and unavoidable. Moreover, magic fluctuated with a person's emotions and intentions, something machines couldn't replicate. Even Ginger, as an artificial intelligence, didn't fully grasp the intricacies of emotions and metaphysical concepts.
"You should inform Makao that if anyone feels their strength isn't enough, they should come train for a bit and see how it goes. We need to keep up with those Mages and continuously update our database."
Jiang nodded and then left.
"Quite the idea, huh?"
Mavis looked at the armor.
"Let's give it a try."
Newton activated the armor directly and brought it to the training ground. With a wave of its hand, a rock pillar rose from the ground, and its subsequent movements mirrored those of Jura perfectly.
However, Mavis frowned as she observed the armor.
"This has a significant flaw."
"Yes, that would be the aura of a strong person."
This was no joke. During the previous S-Class Exam, Kildas had made Natsu kneel with nothing but his sheer magical power. But this armor was just an inanimate object, devoid of any presence; it was lifeless, executing movements mechanically and completely lacking in spontaneity.
"Still, it doesn't matter. We can improve it gradually."
