"Do you need my help with something?"
Gerard followed Newton into the laboratory, where Newton gestured for Gerard to remain silent as he dialed a communication device. Soon, one familiar figure after another appeared before Gerard.
"Ultia..."
Gerard looked at the person who had deceived him for most of his life with a complicated expression; his feelings were quite mixed.
"I'm sorry, it was indeed my fault back then. If you want to do something to me, feel free."
Ultia appeared calm, as if she was ready to accept whatever fate awaited her.
"What do you want to do to Sister Uruutia?"
Melty seemed almost inseparable from Ultia, and after connecting with Zhubian, it seemed that Melty had undergone some incredible transformation.
Gerard raised an eyebrow, feeling helpless. The expression on the other party's face suggested they were willing to take risks, but he wasn't someone who would do anything reckless.
"Hey, why did you call us back?"
A rather proud person with a disdainful expression walked in, not through the front door but from underground.
"Six Demons?"
Gerard recognized him; it was the infamous Poison Dragon Slayer Mage, Kebula.
"Oh, Gerard, are you planning to establish a new system to revive those people from Wolf Island?"
Kebula seemed quite casual as he found a spot to sit down and poured himself a drink. He was well aware of everything that had happened between Wolf Island and Fairy Tail.
"Kebula, shut up!"
Kebula's hand was directly twisted into fragments as Dark Night walked in, looking at Newton with concern.
"Are you okay?"
"No."
Newton shook his head.
"What could possibly happen to this guy, Dark Night?"
Lisa entered next, followed by Angel.
"Shut up!"
With just a glance, the remaining members of Six Demons fell silent, all intimidated by Dark Night.
"What’s going on here?"
Gerard was somewhat surprised, unsure of what had happened with Six Demons, noticing the subtle connection between them and Newton.
"It's fine, Dark Night."
Newton reassured Dark Night as Alchemy activated, restoring the twisted wine glass back into Kebula's hand.
Then Newton explained his relationship with Six Demons.
It turned out that Six Demons had indeed been captured by the Magic Council years ago, but they were soon attacked by Comfort. There was nothing more to it; Newton actually thought quite highly of Six Demons. After some investigation, he learned that most of the members were orphans brought out by Brian from Paradise Tower. They had little emotional connection to Brian, and what could one expect from a Dark Guild? Moreover, when Newton was at his worst, he had maintained a good relationship with Dark Night and Kebula. The two top-ranking members of Six Demons recognized Newton, and the rest were either coerced or tempted; all of Six Demons joined Newton's side except for Brian. As for Brian, regardless of which persona he took on, he was simply too dangerous for Newton to consider saving. Hetei had gone to find his brother—the one with the split chin from Paradise Tower—so Hetei wasn’t around to assist Newton.
Although Six Demons did not possess Forbidden Magic like Demon Heart, they were still quite powerful. They handled tasks that Newton found unsuitable to undertake himself. Now, Kebula's significance to Newton was substantial; after all, he was a Dragon Slayer Mage already in his grasp.
Why is Ultia here? It's actually quite similar to the situation with the Six Demons. The Demon Heart was defeated, and one by one, they were captured by Newton. Hades died inside his armor, killed by a single spit from Acnologia, while Azuma turned into a tree due to excessive use of Forbidden Magic, leaving no trace of his remains.
The remaining Mages were brought back by Newton. Both Ultia and Melty had already been persuaded, so Newton took them back to stay by his side.
Newton was quite satisfied with Lastiros' Manifest Arc. Although there were certain limitations, it was enough for him to learn from. Therefore, he kept this person close as a learning subject, and once the learning was complete, Newton had no objections to granting them freedom.
Zudil, the one who possessed the Capricorn Celestial Spirit, had long lost his human form. After leaving the body of Capricorn, he completely vanished without a trace.
As for Hua Yuan, who played with puppets, Newton had inquired about their intentions. However, Hua Yuan seemed rather simple-minded. If utilized well, they could be a decent combat force, so Newton allowed them to join the Guild's mercenary team. Jin would train them, as Jin indeed needed a strong bodyguard.
However, the remaining two were more difficult to handle: the Fire God Slayer Mage Zancro and the Vice President of Demon Heart, Brunot, who manipulated gravity.
Compared to others, these two were purely evil; they were genuinely bad people. Zancro killed indiscriminately and would even harm his own Guild members without remorse. Newton had previously tried to communicate with him but to no avail; Zancro had attempted to attack him multiple times.
Brunot was another unpredictable individual. While those around Newton still had some restraint and could control their actions, Brunot had no boundaries at all. If released, he would pose a significant threat to others. Therefore, Newton could only keep these two confined.
"?"
Gerard was puzzled about why Newton had brought these individuals before him and what he wanted him to do.
"Gerard, how about I leave these people in your charge?"
Newton's words made Gerard furrow his brow and shake his head.
"I don't understand why you want to do this."
"To be honest," Newton continued, "I suspect that Wolf Island hasn't disappeared but is merely missing. At least I detected unusual magical fluctuations at sea; however, the source of these fluctuations is underwater. So I suspect that Wolf Island has its own protective measures and has submerged itself into the ocean. I will likely spend most of my time there. Although I have Jiang here to help me communicate, I'm still worried about potential issues. Better safe than sorry; I hope you can act as my backup."
This backup was essentially an insurance measure. The Dark Guild and Fairy Tail both had armor as their communication medium, but Newton needed an additional safety net. He couldn't always be aware of what was happening here; if any research hit a bottleneck, it might be difficult to reach him. At that point, he would need someone to assist him, and Gerard was an excellent choice. Having been through Paradise Tower and served as a council member, he was top-notch in both intellect and strength. With the help of these former Dark Guild members, Newton believed Gerard could accomplish many things.
"I definitely feel overwhelmed trying to do all of this alone, so I ask for your help."
Newton bowed deeply.
"Don't worry, Newton, I will definitely help you!"
Dark Night patted Newton on the shoulder, and anyone else who seemed to want something was silenced by a single glare from Dark Night.
"We will help too," Ultia said with a smile and a nod.
"This... perhaps it can help me atone for my past sins."
"..."
Gerard looked at Newton and took a deep breath.
"Alright, I promise you."
