"Ow, ow, ow!"
Newton lay in bed while Miraj sat beside him, holding a bowl of rice porridge. She scooped a spoonful and blew on it lightly before bringing it to his lips.
"Ah..."
"Mmm, it's delicious."
Newton felt warmth spreading through his stomach.
"You really should take better care of yourself," Miraj chided gently.
"I've been trying, but who knew that Brian had another personality? We're supposed to be in a light-hearted story; who would expect such a horror movie twist?"
Newton grimaced. Split personalities were a bit much; that trope was getting old. He recalled some supernatural stories he had heard before that were similar.
"Horror movie?"
Miraj shook her head. Often, she found it hard to understand what Newton was talking about. He had tried to explain, but explaining was one thing; understanding was another.
"Well, now you don't have to worry about anything. Just take your time to rest at home."
Miraj was pleased with this. When there were no missions, Newton was always busy with his Alchemy studies, frantically acquiring knowledge or working on tasks at the Guild. Now he finally had some downtime.
"Yeah, I've been quite busy lately, so it's good to take a break."
Newton nodded, but then pain shot through his body, causing him to wince again.
"Alright, just take a break for a while."
Miraj patted Newton's body, and he grimaced again.
"I'm planning to leave."
Gerard and the others recovered faster than Newton, so Gerard was already fine by this time.
"......"
Newton felt a bit awkward now; after all, he was also a Minotaur.
"Safe travels?"
"Heh, you who used to toy with the Six Demons would have that kind of expression too."
Gerard shook his head.
"Take good care of Erza, thanks."
"Sorry."
"The one who should be sorry is me."
Newton sighed. Sometimes the inner sorrow could really make one oblivious to physical pain... how could that be? Newton swore that at least half of his tears were due to the pain in his body.
"Newton, I'm here to help with the healing!"
Newton pulled Gerard away, but the members of Six Demons had all been captured, and the most surprising news was about the Cat Transformation Inn.
Just when everyone thought Nirvana was finished, the President of Cat Transformation Inn revealed that he was actually the creator of Three Hundred Years Ago's Nirvana. Not only that, but all the members of Cat Transformation Inn, except for him and Wendy, were phantoms—sentient illusions created by the President using his own magical power.
Originally, the President intended to guard Nirvana alone in the Abandoned Village quietly. However, who could have predicted that a Boy With Tattoos would find him years ago and bring Wendy to him? To provide Wendy with a warm home, the President made these arrangements.
Now that Nirvana had been destroyed and Wendy had found her companions, the President finally felt at ease. The phantoms dissipated, and his body, worn by centuries of hardship, began to fade away.
Wendy then joined Fairy Tail.
"Then I'll leave it to you."
Newton initially thought about concocting some potions to restore his body, but Wendy's healing magic was remarkably effective. Each time she healed him, he could feel his body recovering significantly.
"Alright, that's enough for now."
However, healing magic did consume a lot of Wendy's magical energy. He didn't want her to exhaust herself completely; feeling drained was worse than being hungry.
"It's fine! I've gotten stronger now!"
Wendy clenched her fists. During the battle at Nirvana, she had grown quite a bit.
"Really, it's not necessary. Recovering using your own body is also a form of training."
Newton spoke sincerely; just as iron becomes tougher through repeated hammering, so do people. If a bone is repeatedly broken and healed, its healing ability and resilience will improve—provided one can recover well. It was like trying to train one's palm with iron sand; many had succumbed to infections from their wounds.
"Exactly! Besides, this guy might have some good potions on him."
Newton discovered that Sharlulu was the true embodiment of a cat. In his previous life, most feline masters were aloof, allowing a few strokes when pleased, but ready to use their claws when displeased. However, Sharlulu seemed to be perpetually in a state of discontent, as if something had triggered this mood.
“Sharlulu! Well then, let’s treat you again tomorrow.”
Wendy tugged at her cat and then apologized to Newton.
Indeed, little girls were justly adored—wait, had she revealed something?
Newton quickly suppressed his inappropriate thoughts; that was too low.
“How do you find the Guild?”
“Everyone is very enthusiastic, though perhaps a bit too much so, so I’m still getting used to it, hehe.”
Wendy shyly scratched her head.
“Too enthusiastic? I’d say it’s more like too noisy.”
Newton smirked; he knew exactly what kind of ruckus his Guild members could create.
“It’s not that bad.”
Wendy scratched her head again, looking a bit embarrassed.
“Hmph, it’s definitely too loud.”
Sharlulu certainly didn’t hold back her opinions at all.
Newton smirked and then threw a ring that ensnared Sharlulu.
"What are you doing?"
Sharlulu was startled and, upon seeing the ring, instinctively lay down.
"Well, it seems you're still a cat."
Newton no longer felt the pain from his training; he nodded in satisfaction.
"Pfft."
Wendy burst out laughing, having never seen Sharlulu like this before.
"Newton! I'll settle the score with you once I get out!"
Though her tone was fierce, the lazy cat-like posture she took on the ground lacked any intimidation.
"Sure, sure, sure."
Newton felt much better just from witnessing this scene; indeed, being around cats was the true essence of life.
"Newton! Do you have any cats for sale?"
Gajeel suddenly rushed in, his face covered in scratches.
"What the hell happened to you..."
Newton was somewhat surprised. Just as he was about to ask Gajeel what was wrong, he heard that the other wanted a cat. Looking at Sharlulu and thinking about Haru, he realized that Gajeel really didn't have a cat.
"No."
Newton smiled and shook his head. While he might have a regular cat, there were none like Haru and Sharlulu; they were more like cat-like magical beasts, completely different from ordinary cats.
"I see."
Gajeel clearly looked a bit disappointed.
"Why don't you ask Sharlulu?"
Newton suggested.
"Haru was found by Natsu; when he was discovered, he was just an egg. Sharlulu might know how she came to be and if there are others like her."
Gajeel immediately turned to Sharlulu.
However, Sharlulu fluffed up in surprise and flew away, as if startled by something, leaving everyone else stunned.
