“Laxus! Release the magic!”
Miraj rushed directly in front of Laxus and punched him in the face.
“Hah, has your punch weakened so much from your romance with Newton?”
Although Laxus was knocked back, he returned even faster, darting across the ground like a bolt of lightning, reaching Miraj in an instant.
“Armor of the Thunder Emperor!”
Erza donned her armor that offered maximum resistance to lightning, raising her arms to shield Miraj. However, Laxus's strength wasn't solely derived from his lightning; the force generated by its speed made his punches feel unstoppable.
Both Miraj and Erza were women, and naturally, they were at a disadvantage in terms of raw strength compared to men. Erza left long scratches on the ground as she was dragged along.
Meanwhile, Miraj moved behind Laxus and lifted a large rock from the ground to hurl it at him.
“Roar!”
However, the power of lightning was clearly superior to that of the stone. The boulder was shattered instantly, and the relentless lightning surged toward Miraj. But she had already vacated her position. Using the giant rock to obscure Laxus's vision, she maneuvered to his side. If one Dragon Strike couldn't solve the problem, then she'd unleash a second.
With a powerful Dragon Strike, Miraj sent Laxus soaring into the air while grabbing Erza's hand. Erza arced through the air and delivered a hook kick that slammed Laxus back down to the ground.
As Erza landed, she used her momentum to swing around while Miraj executed a side kick that sent Laxus crashing into the wall.
Laxus was not the type to take hits without retaliating; he wasn't a pushover against women either. The earlier attack only fueled his anger further.
“Thunderstorm!”
The lightning wasn't particularly strong, but it came in overwhelming numbers—more of a restraining technique than an outright attack. The damage was nearly negligible, but even a single hit would leave one paralyzed. In fact, Erza's Armor of the Thunder Emperor allowed her to completely ignore Laxus's lightning attacks, but Miraj took a hit. Although her magical resistance increased afterward, it also provided Laxus with an opportunity.
Seeing an opening in Miraj's movements, Laxus immediately pursued her relentlessly, sending bolts of lightning flying as if they required no magical energy to cast.
However, those who know you best are not necessarily your friends; sometimes they are your opponents. Miraj remained unfazed. When the first bolt of lightning struck, Erza had already positioned herself in its path and blocked it, buying time for Miraj. The two continued to alternate blocking Laxus's attacks, successfully defending against his relentless onslaught.
Not only did they block the attack, but the two also advanced toward Laxus, charging at him through the lightning.
Once again, they executed a coordinated assault, striking Laxus relentlessly.
“Roar!”
Laxus was suppressed, but he erupted with power. Dragon scales appeared on his body as he unleashed his fury, sending him flying once more.
Well, in reality, although Laxus was strong—perhaps the strongest among the S-Class Mages of Fairy Tail besides Kildas and Makarov—the gap between S-Class Mages was not as vast as one might imagine. Various factors could lead to different outcomes in battles. However, facing two opponents working together seamlessly made Laxus's situation rather tragic.
“Thunder Dragon's Roar!”
There was no choice; the roar was a classic technique of Dragon Slayer Magic, and its power could be adjusted. If Laxus unleashed an uncontrolled roar, it would likely devastate the town along this line.
“Wow, this is intense.”
Suddenly, a figure clad in armor appeared—wait, not just one, but two. The one speaking raised a hand to block Laxus's Thunder Dragon's Roar while the other held someone captive.
The second armored figure also had someone in their grasp.
Both were fully armored, making it impossible to discern their appearances.
“Greetings to the two lovely ladies and this gentleman. Allow me to introduce myself; you can call me Ugly. This is the Hypnotist. We are members of the emerging Dark Guild Circus. It seems you Fairy Tail are having some internal strife? We were wondering if we could join in on the fun?”
For some reason, even though Ugly's appearance was hidden, everyone present could sense that he was smiling.
“Ugly? Get lost!”
Laxus was furious. Indeed, Fairy Tail seemed too weak; now anyone dared to provoke them?
A bolt of lightning shot toward Ugly, but Erza and Miraj unexpectedly stepped in front of him.
“Laxus, are you crazy?”
“Laxus, look at who that guy has in his hands!”
Of course, Laxus could see very well who was being held under the guy's arm—Newton, now resembling a lifeless fish.
“Oh dear, that was dangerous. I almost thought I was going to die,” the man said, patting his chest. Then, as if remembering something, he grabbed Newton by the armpits and started shaking him around like a puppet.
“You…”
Miraj clenched her fists but didn’t dare to step forward.
“Idiot! I know Newton's resistance to my lightning. If I could just paralyze those two for a moment, I could save him,” Laxus shouted angrily.
“Ha! Saying that in front of the enemy—are you really that confident, or do you have some other plan?” The man's words caught Miraj off guard; she clearly hadn’t expected Laxus to have such confidence.
“You…”
Laxus clenched his fists, sparks of electricity flickering around him.
“Let’s assume you’re telling the truth. But can this young man handle it? What about this old man?” The man once again shoved Newton under his arm and suddenly felt uncomfortable. He then rested Newton on his shoulder and approached the Hypnotist, lifting the head of another hostage.
“Just so you know, we’ve wasted quite a bit of time and resources to capture this old man. Luckily, we managed to hold out until he fell ill. Oh dear, seeing him in pain makes our hearts ache.”
Makarov shot a glance at the ugly figure from a perspective that Laxus and the others couldn't see.
"Hmph, they must be fakes."
Laxus couldn't believe that those two would be captured so easily.
"I..."
"Laxus!"
"Erza! Miraj!"
At that moment, Sting and Reby returned, and the ugly figure burst into laughter.
"The timing is just perfect."
Upon hearing that Makarov and Newton were missing from the venue, and with the Dark Guild appearing outside the city, Laxus found it hard to deny what was happening.
"What do you want to do?"
"Oh, I just want to play a game."
