In the end, Erza was fine; the so-called trial was merely a formality. The key events revolved around Kildas and Kana.
When Kildas asked his question, Kana felt extremely nervous, trembling uncontrollably. However, the outcome was positive; at least Kildas learned that he had a daughter, and Kana was finally reunited with her father.
But Kildas couldn't stay in the Guild forever. Even within the Guild, there wasn't much that could be done about Kildas's magical outbursts. Moreover, Kildas was a wanderer who could never remain in one place for long. Ultimately, he set off to roam again.
"Why did you have to tell Kildas about all this?" Kana glared at Newton, clearly upset. Although she had indeed confided in Miraj, it was Newton who ultimately informed Kildas. After all these years of hiding her identity, what had it all been for?
"Isaac is just looking out for you," Miraj interjected on Newton's behalf.
"If you're father and daughter, do you really want to keep meeting each other as strangers? You might regret it later."
"But right now, I'm just an ordinary Mage, and Kildas..."
Kana took a gloomy sip of her drink, feeling embarrassed about her abilities in front of Kildas.
"It's okay. You know what Kildas is like. That guy doesn't care about your strength. In fact, if you were really strong, Kildas would be pleased. But even if you're not the strongest, he wouldn't mind. You've seen how that idiot father of his behaves."
Newton tried to comfort her from the side.
"But... I..."
Kana suddenly felt extremely drowsy and slumped over the table. The only ones still awake were Newton, Miraj, Makarov, and Laxus upstairs.
“Mister Gang, do you really have to hypnotize everyone every time you come back?”
Makarov said helplessly.
“Just in case.”
Mister Gang replied coolly as he approached the mission board and selected a mission.
“Don’t worry, they’ll wake up soon.”
Mister Gang walked slowly towards the exit.
“5.”
“4.”
“…”
“…”
“1.”
With the final number, Mister Gang's figure vanished from the scene, and everyone else began to wake up.
“Damn it, it must be that guy, Mister Gang.”
Kana rubbed her forehead; that last fall onto the table had really hurt.
"Yeah, that guy is really mysterious," Natsu said, somewhat dissatisfied as he rubbed his head.
"Exactly! Every time he uses Hypnosis Magic to put us to sleep. Even when we meet, he's always hiding behind a scarf and mask, so we can't see his true face at all."
Many people began to imagine what Mister Gang looked like in their minds.
"Hmph, that's because you're all too weak," Laxus scoffed from the S-Class Mage area on the second floor.
"Laxus, you're here?" Natsu exclaimed in surprise. Today was probably the most complete gathering of S-Class Mages in the Guild, and then he immediately shouted, "Laxus, come fight me!"
"Oh? You can't even beat Erza, and you want to fight me?" Laxus rested his chin on one hand, looking bored at Natsu.
"Laxus, what do you mean by that?"
Erza was not pleased. In fact, aside from Kildas, the strength difference among the remaining S-Class Mages wasn't that significant, and Laxus's words were nothing short of blatant mockery towards her.
"What do you mean?"
Laxus laughed arrogantly.
"What I mean is that you are no match for me."
"Do you want to try?"
Erza's magic power began to surge.
"Oh, you're quite confident, aren't you?"
Lightning started to crackle around Laxus.
"Do you both realize that every time you fight, the entire Guild needs major repairs afterward?"
Newton sighed and tapped his palm on the table.
"Do you think it's easy for someone to clean up after your mess every time?"
"Hmph, fine. I have a mission anyway. Let's settle this next time."
Laxus smirked, dissipated his magic power, and then walked away.
"Hmph."
Erza also withdrew her magic power, letting out a heavy snort.
"Laxus! Don't run!"
Natsu dashed toward Laxus.
"Calm down a bit."
Newton smirked, pressing his palm against the ground, and an iron cage enclosed Natsu.
"Haha, Newton, this can't hold me!"
Flames ignited in Natsu's hands as he melted the iron cage into molten metal.
"You still have a long way to go."
Newton shook his head, suddenly slapping the air with his arm.
"Alchemy."
Invisible waves spread rapidly, and Natsu immediately felt as if he were suffocating. He tried to reach for his mouth, but it seemed something was blocking him—a layer of invisible barrier wrapped around his head. Newton held onto something with one hand, while Natsu gradually lost consciousness.
"Decompose."
The invisible column of air was dissected by Newton.
"Honestly, while enthusiasm is a good thing for young people, if you can't see your own strengths, it will only bring trouble."
"You make it sound like you're so old."
Miraj shot Newton a glance, calculating that he wasn't actually much older than Natsu.
"Doesn't that seem a bit pretentious?"
Newton chuckled.
However, unexpectedly, Miraj shouted anxiously, "President! There's one less mission sheet on the second floor!"
"What!?"
Makarov was momentarily stunned. In the guild, with the S-Class Mages present—Newton was there, Miraj was there, Erza was there, and Laxus had gone on a mission—Kildas and Mister Gang were absent. That left no other S-Class Mages.
"Everyone, go check who’s missing."
Newton frowned as well. He began searching through the list of missions accepted yesterday and looked around the guild at everyone present. He quickly called out several names of those who hadn't taken on missions and were also not in the guild.
"The key point is Natsu. That guy was mocked yesterday and is definitely feeling a bit off. I wouldn't be surprised if that fool does something reckless."
"If it's that Fire Lizard, then let me handle it."
Gray clenched his fist; he would never back down against his rival.
"Don't do anything reckless, or I'll send Erza over."
Newton's words left Gray momentarily stunned, cold sweat trickling down his face, and he nodded with a complicated expression.
"Are you really sure about this?"
Miraj looked at Newton, not believing that sending these troublemakers would end well.
"It's good for these guys to understand the difficulties of an S-Class mission; otherwise, they'd still think they could handle it."
Newton snorted softly and then glanced at Makarov, who nodded in agreement.
"Shall we go?"
Miraj looked at Newton.
"Yeah, we can't just let those kids die out there."
