"Did you go on a mission with Erza?"
Miraj was cooking, and Newton initially thought that the other person would ask him this question upon returning, but he didn't expect them to be so patient.
"Are you jealous?"
Newton closed the book he had borrowed from the library, his gaze drifting towards the backpack beside him.
"No."
Miraj shook her head.
"Erza is indeed very strong, and her Requip magic suits you well. You two make a great team."
"Yeah, you're right."
Newton nodded. Seeing that Newton actually agreed with her, Miraj smiled and chopped down with a knife on the cutting board.
"Focus, or I might have to enchant my cutting board."
Newton rolled his eyes, but considering he didn't want to eat any dark cuisine for dinner, he decided to take out the gift.
"I brought this back for you."
Newton pulled out a custom-made dress from his backpack.
"What is this?"
Initially, Newton was quite angry about being disturbed while cooking, especially since the other party had previously provoked him. However, now he hesitated as he looked at the dress.
"This is a gift for you. The main reason Erza teamed up with me this time was to have me enchant her armor, and we ended up visiting Hear Kreuz. As a result..."
Then Newton shared some amusing stories about Erza at Hear Kreuz.
"You should have seen that boss's complicated expression."
Newton chuckled, but Miraj was completely uninterested in his story; she was fixated on the dress.
"Did you really design this?"
"Huh?"
Newton was taken aback for a moment before nodding, unsure why she was so concerned about this.
"Yes, I'm very satisfied."
Miraj picked up the dress and headed upstairs. Over time, she had become so comfortable in Newton's home that it felt like her own.
"Wait... the food isn't finished yet, is it?"
Newton glanced at the remaining vegetables on the cutting board and the stew simmering in the pot.
"It seems like this isn't much different from Alchemy, right?"
Immediately, Newton felt a desire to give it a try. Noticing that Miraj still hadn't come back down, he reached out toward the pot beside him.
“Alchemy!”
The Alchemy Array appeared on the stove, but the most crucial part was that various ingredients were being broken down and then combined. However, this process was random. Newton wasn’t going to study the composition of dishes; even if he could understand it, it would only be at the molecular level, like with water or fibers. The result was that the pot instantly turned into a gooey mess.
Not just any mess, but something black and reminiscent of what one might see in a movie where a witch brews something in a cauldron. Smoke billowed up, forming a skull shape that seemed to grin, while an overwhelming stench wafted out from within.
“What is that!”
Miraj rushed down and saw Newton standing at the stove wearing a gas mask, staring at a pot filled with an unknown substance.
“Newton? What’s that?”
“Cooking.”
Newton calmly snapped his fingers, causing the flames on the stove to blaze hotter. The black, unidentifiable mass quickly turned to sludge and then ash, which Newton blew away.
“It’s just a minor issue.”
Newton felt no guilt whatsoever; instead, he considered it merely a mistake. Because he didn’t feel self-conscious about it, he believed that next time he would surely create the most delicious dish using Alchemy.
“You’re wasting food! Do you understand?”
Miraj scolded him with an annoyed tap on his head, hands on her hips as she glared at him.
Newton looked up and down at Miraj. Although his face still bore that familiar delinquent smile, perhaps due to appearances, it seemed less fierce and more charmingly willful.
“So beautiful.”
Newton couldn't help but utter those two words.
Miraj's face instantly turned red, and she became shy, nervously fiddling with her skirt.
"Ahem."
Newton seemed to sense that something was off and cleared his throat a couple of times.
"Well... dinner was ruined due to some unforeseen circumstances, so how about we go out to eat?"
Without answering, Miraj took a deep breath, then clapped her hands on her cheeks to encourage herself, shouting with confidence.
"Sure."
"We're not going out for anything special."
Newton chuckled and shook his head, unable to suppress a smile at her demeanor.
"Then, would you like to join me for a candlelit dinner, my lady?"
Like a true gentleman, Newton bowed slightly and extended his hand toward Miraj.
"Well, I suppose I'll give you a chance."
Miraj had initially wanted to play hard to get but couldn't resist any longer. She smiled and placed her hand in Newton's.
As the two laughed and headed out, they forgot one important thing: while Miraj had become accustomed to visiting Newton, Elfman and Lisanna had also grown used to it. So when Newton took Miraj out for dinner, Elfman and Lisanna found themselves standing dumbfounded at Newton's doorstep, only to discover that no one was home.
"Second."
"Sister!"
Lisanna was quite upset, very upset. How could her sister forget about her adorable little sister just because of a man? So, Lisanna prepared to confront her sister and Newton. However, when Newton brought out the Hear Kreuz outfit, the girl's anger quickly subsided.
"Miraj! Let's battle!"
Erza had just acquired new armor and immediately began to provoke Miraj.
"Hmph, are you sure about that? Armored Woman."
The armor was almost crafted right under Newton's nose. Miraj was already well aware of Erza's tendencies and knew she would definitely come looking for trouble. So, the night before, she had already inquired about the effects of Erza's latest armor from Newton.
"This time, I'm going to make you eat dirt!"
"How peaceful it is."
Newton shrugged, glancing at the mission board and finding nothing that interested him. He then decided to head to the library to continue reading.
"Everyone! I found a dragon egg!"
Out of nowhere, Natsu burst in, carrying an egg that was about his size.
"Hmm?"
Newton suddenly found this quite intriguing.
"Natsu, is this egg... a dragon egg?"
Dragons are treasures in themselves, with dragon blood and dragon meat. Newton's eyes sparkled at the sight of the egg.
"What do you want to do? I found it!"
Natsu held the egg tightly, feeling uneasy under Newton's gaze.
"Right, but if it really hatches, how about letting me collect some materials?"
Newton had no intention of killing the dragon outright; after all, sustainability was important.
"Um, if you can help me hatch it without harming it."
Natsu nodded, as he had no idea how to hatch an egg, and to him, Newton seemed all-knowing.
"Alright."
Newton immediately began recalling his knowledge on how to hatch reptiles.
