“Sdeck! What is the power you have painstakingly cultivated for?”
After Wen Yi and the others walked away, a figure in black emerged from the shadows, murmuring to himself. His face, exposed to the sunlight, bore an inexplicable age that made it hard to believe this was the same person who had chased Fang Lin Kong a year ago, looking as youthful as a monkey.
“I want to grasp this world in my hands, and this city will soon become my territory…”
The Black Flame surrounding Sdeck surged like a volcanic eruption, shooting into the sky and burning at a height of forty to fifty meters. It seemed to announce his arrival to the city.
Then, a young man dressed in designer clothes, with his sleeves rolled up high, passed by Sdeck, adopting an expression that said he didn’t recognize this Idiot.
Sdeck felt a flicker of annoyance, but he dared not raise his voice against the son of the True Flame Sect Leader. Dongfang Yimu was his old partner, yet their strengths were unknown to each other. A year ago, Sdeck had joined the sacrificial group of the True Flame Sect, gaining dark powers, while Dongfang had never revealed his true strength. Their relationship was merely ordinary, lacking any deep discussions about their cultivation experiences. Sdeck retracted his posture and reluctantly followed behind Dongfang Yimu. They were here to assist a certain assassination team from the Demon Hunting Team, monitoring Fang Lin Kong’s movements. Although they had been informed that Fang Lin Kong was no longer what he used to be, Sdeck remained skeptical and wanted to find an opportunity to prove his current strength.
“Dongfang! Is Fang Lin Kong really that formidable? Are we not even a match if we join forces?”
Dongfang stopped in his tracks and glanced back at Sdeck, shaking his head as he replied, “If you knew that this assassination attempt was personally orchestrated by my father and Camberto, you wouldn’t be asking such questions.”
When Huang Yunfeng saw Fang Lin Kong return safely, his first question was, “What did you say to Shi Qingyuan?” Fang Lin Kong cheerfully made an ‘okay’ gesture as he recalled the journey of the Winged Thunder Serpent. He simply stated, “I have reached an agreement with this Immortal Master, and there will be some cooperation moving forward.” Not knowing what scheme Fang Lin Kong was concocting, Huang Yunfeng decided not to pry further.
Recently, Fang Lin Kong had been quite busy with matters concerning the International Demon Alliance and the Kunlun Celestial Path. Although Huang Yunfeng wasn’t particularly strong in combat, having cultivated the Starlight Body, he was still considered a valuable asset. With proper training, he could shine brightly in the future.
As he pondered over various matters, thoughts of his former rival, Eastern Thunder, crossed his mind. Despite Wen Zhongda’s high cultivation level, he surely lacked patience in training this young man. In contrast, Eastern Thunder, eager for success and with such a promising disciple at hand, would greatly solidify his position within the Kunlun Celestial Path. Confident that this plan would succeed, upon returning to Earth, the first thing Fang Lin Kong did was call Eastern Thunder.
Upon receiving the call from Fang Lin Kong, Eastern Thunder was somewhat surprised. However, given that their seniority clearly favored Fang Lin Kong, he didn’t wish to dwell on past grievances. Recently focused on cultivating his skills and aiming to refine the Azure Origin Celestial Sword into a state of unity between sword and body, he found himself quite displeased by the interruption. Yet one sentence from Fang Lin Kong piqued his interest. “I have a long-lost sword technique from our sect; I wonder if you would be interested in coming over to study it.”
With that statement made, Fang Lin Kong hung up without waiting for a response. On the other end, Eastern Thunder’s tone grew urgent as he promised to arrive immediately; however, he didn’t bother listening further. Though they weren’t well-acquainted, it was clear from his demeanor that this offer would undoubtedly entice him.
Putting down the phone, Fang Lin Kong smiled at Huang Yunfeng and said, "Although your luck has allowed you to cultivate the Starlight Body, you have taken a shortcut, and your foundation is too weak. I have found you a mentor, one of the most outstanding among our younger generation in the Kunlun Celestial Path, and he has the best temperament. Only he would have the patience to teach you."
Huang Yunfeng was immediately filled with gratitude, deeply moved by Fang Lin Kong's thoughtful arrangements for his future. He didn't pay much attention to what Fang Lin Kong said next until he took the items that Fang Lin Kong handed him, at which point he snapped back to reality.
"To make up for your shallow foundation, I have here a Celestial Chapter. It not only contains advanced cultivation techniques for the Starlight Body but also the most profound swordsmanship. The Azure Sword is our sect's signature Flying Sword; do not underestimate its power. I know your protective talismans are lacking as well, so this set of Twelve Flag Gates has excellent evasion capabilities and will be very useful for self-defense. This is a super Magical Pet, the Hundred Seas King, gifted to me by Qingming Master. It can serve as a means of transportation and can transform into an illusionary beast armor. Once your cultivation improves, it can even reach the level of my Winged Thunder Serpent... There are also a few small items that are essential for daily life. I suspect your previous master may not have provided you with everything you need, so I happen to have extras."
After coughing a few times, Fang Lin Kong thought to himself, "The Hundred Seas Dragon can indeed be refined to match the Winged Thunder Serpent; as long as your cultivation surpasses that Ancient Immortal Shi Qingyuan by a few levels, this is not a lie." Huang Yunfeng was unaware of the complicated background behind this introduction of treasures. Accepting these items made him regard Fang Lin Kong as family. Excitedly exploring these treasures, he noted that Fang Lin Kong had been generous; aside from two significant talismans, there were also Mechanical Demon Soldiers, detectors, Psycho Guns, Daoist Sect talismans, a comprehensive collection of spells from both Eastern and Western traditions, and the Seeking Demon Bug refined from Dragon Flies... all of which were valuable and highly practical.
Of course, Huang Yunfeng was especially careful with the Ten Directions Mantra Sutra that Fang Lin Kong had specifically selected for him. The first half recorded experiences from entry-level cultivation to Ascend and beyond. The latter half contained some extremely powerful spells that were almost akin to Buddhist Sect techniques—perfectly suited for Huang Yunfeng.
Fang Lin Kong had considerable influence now and easily arranged for Huang Yunfeng to settle in while he attended to his own matters.
Huang Yunfeng was conveniently placed in the same hotel where Wen Yi and others were staying. Since his parents' divorce, Huang Yunfeng had not eaten properly; he often resorted to petty theft just to get by. Luxurious spending was out of the question. Now that his circumstances had suddenly changed and he found himself financially comfortable, he couldn't help but indulge a little. After making a few calls to inquire about local bathhouses, he left his room.
Just then, Wen Yi returned with Zero Sakura and others. As they passed each other in the hallway, Chen Mingbin turned around and called out suddenly, "Hey! Who are you? This is our Chifeng Army's territory." Huang Yunfeng was feeling quite spirited; hearing someone provoke him made him retort immediately. "Who I am is none of your business! I'm from Kunlun Celestial Path and don't care about your Chifeng Army."
Ma Jingjie quickly grabbed Wen Yi, who was about to explode with anger, and said with a smile, "We're collaborating with Kunlun Celestial Path; this brother must be new here. If you need anything, feel free to ask us; after all, Chifeng Army is a local organization and knows everyone around here."
Huang Yunfeng was no pushover either; seeing Ma Jingjie's friendly demeanor made him respond honestly: "I came here with Brother Fang Lin Kong; I'm temporarily staying here."
Wen Yi let out an odd sound and winked at Ma Jingjie before saying, "I have something important to attend to; if you two have nothing else going on, you can entertain this little brother!" Ma Jingjie cursed under his breath; he knew Wen Yi's 'important matter' was merely wanting to catch up with Zero Sakura.
Ma Jingjie had once considered pursuing one of the other three beauties from North Ao Team but found Yan Yini too proud to even glance at someone like him. Yu Beiyao was entirely focused on her work and only thought about completing her tasks before taking on new ones; in her eyes, Ma Jingjie was just a symbol of distraction. Xiong Jingjing was more approachable but was always flying from one city to another—out of reach for Ma Jingjie.
Every time he saw Wen Yi getting cozy with beauties like Zero Sakura, it felt like a huge stimulus for Ma Jingjie. He tried his best to avoid being around them so as not to feel uncomfortable. Chen Mingbin smiled faintly; he understood Ma Jingjie's thoughts and said to Huang Yunfeng, "We were just about to head out too; if you're free, why don't we all go together?"
Huang Yunfeng intended to do something significant but didn't want company. However, Ma Jingjie eagerly engaged him in conversation without letting up on his enthusiasm. Reluctantly nodding in agreement became his only option.
The three of them left together; Ma Jingjie went to retrieve his car while Huang Yunfeng recognized that this rugged Hummer was also a Mechanical Demon Soldier. Remembering the sports car version gifted by Fang Lin Kong brought back familiar warmth and made him feel more favorable towards both men. As they drove along chatting away, they quickly became familiar with each other. Huang Yunfeng learned that these two were childhood friends of Fang Lin Kong and classmates from high school—he felt an instant camaraderie with them. Hearing Huang Yunfeng recount his adventures made Ma Jingjie envious while Chen Mingbin remained contemplative and quiet throughout their conversation.
Ma Jingjie brought Huang Yunfeng to the Non-Human Bar, a place he often frequented. This bar was a gathering spot for monsters in the city. Although the three of them were human, they did not attract any attention as they entered. After greeting a waitress who approached them, Ma Jingjie was about to head to the private room he usually occupied. However, the waitress's expression changed when she recognized him, and she stammered, "It's not very convenient today; we don't have any private rooms available. Mr. Ma, could you please find a seat outside?"
Ma Jingjie was taken aback and replied angrily, "Outside? I always reserve that room! How could you rent it out to someone else? Get your manager!"
Huang Yunfeng, who had been watching with keen interest, noted that the waitresses here were of a higher caliber than those at the nightclubs he had previously visited. Their outfits were not revealing but rather cute nurse-like uniforms. The main difference from ordinary nightclubs was that each waitress wore uniquely designed clothing; no two outfits were alike. Although sitting outside was less convenient than being in a private room, Huang Yunfeng found it more visually appealing and advised Ma Jingjie, "We're just here to relax; there's no need to make a scene. Who knows what kind of characters are inside? If things escalate into a fight, we won't have any fun today."
Ma Jingjie felt puzzled; in this city, there shouldn't be any monsters who would dare disrespect the Chifeng Army. However, he wasn't particularly cautious by nature, and since Huang Yunfeng had intervened, he decided not to press further. The three of them found a random spot to sit down.
Not far away, two individuals occupying Ma Jingjie's usual private room looked out with varying expressions. From the outside, the wall appeared normal, but from within, it was as transparent as glass.
"Dongfang! Are we really going to lure Fang Lin Kong by capturing these three?"
Sdeck smiled cruelly; moments ago, he had broken the legs of six monsters guarding the bar and boldly taken over the private room. His intention was to provoke Ma Jingjie and his friends into confronting him. Now that his plan had failed, Sdeck felt no disappointment; he had no reason to back down from a direct confrontation.
Seeing Sdeck's expression, Dongfang Yimu turned away without saying anything. With his silent approval, Sdeck strode out of the private room. As this dangerous-looking man appeared, all the staff in the bar instinctively created distance from him. Sdeck slowly approached the three men; just as Ma Jingjie was about to scold him, Sdeck preemptively smiled and said, "On such a fine day, would you three like to see a wonderful fireworks display?"
A surge of black flames erupted from nowhere, instantly engulfing the entire bar in fierce heat. Ma Jingjie and Chen Mingbin had both experienced their fair share of battles and quickly used their abilities to create distance from the threat. It was wise to avoid confrontation with an unknown enemy.
Huang Yunfeng experienced this kind of fighting for the first time; his reaction was slightly delayed. He summoned his Great Might Heavenly Dragon with a roar that charged toward Sdeck's Black Flame in a direct clash. If Wen Yi had been present today instead of Huang Yunfeng, they would have stood no chance against Sdeck's strength and would likely have been captured immediately. Unfortunately for Sdeck, he faced Huang Yunfeng instead. While Huang Yunfeng's abilities might not have seemed exceptional at first glance, his Starlight Body allowed him to manipulate energy effortlessly; ordinary spells could hardly harm him.
The Great Might Heavenly Dragon was formidable; however, Sdeck was not one to back down easily either. With confidence bolstered by his mastery over Black Flame after his second sacrifice, he recklessly unleashed destructive energy within himself. A massive black fire pillar clashed with the Great Might Heavenly Dragon in mid-air. Both Huang Yunfeng and Sdeck were pushed back by the force of their powers.
Chen Mingbin reacted swiftly; raising his hand summoned a powerful gust that surged forward. Sdeck was too preoccupied with battling Huang Yunfeng to defend against this attack effectively. But Dongfang Yimu was not merely an observer either; he had somehow produced a steel pipe in his hand which he extended into a nearly two-meter-long weapon with one end sharpened into a blade—the Wuying Spear.
Dongfang Yimu's speed matched that of Chen Mingbin's specialized Wind Element spells perfectly. With a deceptive slash of the Wuying Spear, true flames erupted from its tip and shattered Chen Mingbin's gust of wind before enveloping both Chen Mingbin and Ma Jingjie in its fiery embrace.
Chen Mingbin and Ma Jingjie had put in some effort, but compared to someone like Dongfang Yimu, who had grown up under harsh training, the gap in strength was significant. Ma Jingjie was particularly weak; he lost his balance with a flick of the Wuying Spear. As Dongfang Yimu walked past him, he casually knocked him unconscious. At that moment, Chen Mingbin made the wisest decision. Gritting his teeth, he moved swiftly, unleashing a whirlwind as he charged into Sdeck's Black Flame, shouting, "Huang Yunfeng, run!"
Huang Yunfeng was not at a disadvantage in his fight against Sdeck, but when Dongfang Yimu made his move, he thought to himself, "This is bad!" Chen Mingbin intervened to help him, and without hesitation, Huang Yunfeng stepped back to face Dongfang Yimu while shouting, "I won't abandon my brothers and run away!"
Chen Mingbin was nearly infuriated to the point of spitting blood. He had intended for Huang Yunfeng to escape and seek help. Since Dongfang Yimu hadn't immediately killed Ma Jingjie, it meant he wasn't there just to kill; if that were the case, Chen Mingbin's only option would be to run as far as possible. As long as they could alert Fang Lin Kong or someone else, saving them would be easy. Huang Yunfeng was used to the dark underworld where everyone looked out for themselves; sometimes even pushing you from behind in a dirty trick. Chen Mingbin's willingness to save him ignited Huang Yunfeng's bloodlust; he was naturally good at fighting and now driven by brotherly loyalty, his eyes turned red with determination.
Switching opponents, although Chen Mingbin was at a disadvantage against Sdeck, he managed to hold his ground. Once Huang Yunfeng unleashed his fighting spirit, armed with the Azure Wind Sword, Great Might Heavenly Dragon, Sarira Beads, and with the unpredictable Starlight Body that allowed him to twist and shift every part of his body at will, Dongfang Yimu found it difficult to deal with him.
As time passed, Huang Yunfeng realized that his Starlight Body combined with the Indestructible Golden Body rendered him fearless against Dongfang Yimu's Black Flame. Gaining confidence, he commanded the Azure Wind Sword with precision while retracting the Sarira Beads for protection. The Great Might Heavenly Dragon merged with the Starlight Body, significantly boosting his power.
At this point, Dongfang Yimu began to take the battle seriously; he was concerned about alerting Fang Lin Kong. He could no longer hide his strength; thrusting the Wuying Spear into the ground, he summoned a surge of Black Flame that coalesced into a small black dragon flapping its wings within it. Unaware of what Dongfang Yimu was up to, Huang Yunfeng aimed the Azure Wind Sword at it, intending to slay the dragon.
Though small in size, this miniature dragon exuded an overwhelming presence. With a sudden roar that resonated deeply within hearts, it unleashed a faint dragon might. By this time, the bar's structure had been completely destroyed; those who could flee had already vanished without a trace. Only five people remained engaged in battle. The Little Black Dragon unleashed by Dongfang Yimu enveloped everyone in its aura of fear; even Sdeck felt a tremor of dread rising from within. Huang Yunfeng panicked as the black dragon's breath struck his Azure Wind Sword off course, causing it to narrowly miss Dongfang Yimu.
That slight opening was enough for Dongfang Yimu. Killing Huang Yunfeng seemed difficult; he didn't know how to counter the Starlight Body. However, his goal wasn't brute force but rather capturing a hostage. In a swift motion, he grabbed the unconscious Ma Jingjie from the ground and shot through Chen Mingbin's escape route before delivering a furious punch into Chen Mingbin's abdomen. By the time Huang Yunfeng reacted, both of them had activated a teleportation spell and vanished without a trace.
When Huang Yunfeng finally came to his senses, all that remained were ruins and devastation around him. The monsters that had previously hidden away now peeked out cautiously. The bar was situated near a spatial rift that isolated it from the outside world; thus there was no worry about police being alerted by any explosions. Not understanding teleportation spells at all and feeling frustrated for a moment, Huang Yunfeng stomped his foot and decided to find Fang Lin Kong.
Since Murphy had come here, Fang Lin Kong felt guilty and dared not face her; he even avoided Ding Qingya. After arranging for his subordinates' tasks, Fang Lin Kong transformed Huan Huo's appearance for the first time and left the city for the International Yokai Association China Branch. Consequently, he did not receive any news about Ma Jingjie and Chen Mingbin being captured.
The International Yokai Association China Branch certainly wasn't located in some remote Northeast Region; they had established themselves in Shanghai Pudong on a large tract of land where six impressive buildings stood tall. Each building served different functions: weapon research department, beast modification department, external relations department, business culture department, along with a central building and residential quarters for members.
Most of the yokai entering China were originally from there or still held Chinese nationality today. A small number of foreign employees were well-versed in Chinese affairs and spoke fluent Mandarin. Although there was initial investment from the International Demon Alliance, the International Yokai Alliance China Branch needed self-sustaining capabilities; thus their business sector was currently thriving.
When Fang Lin Kong first stepped into this place compared to what he had built with Heavenly Peng Camp, it starkly highlighted the difference between professionalism and amateurism. Accompanying him were all first-level executives from the International Yokai Alliance China Branch who were introducing various functions of their departments.
Along their way through the International Yokai Alliance China Branch’s premises, every yokai who saw Fang Lin Kong surrounded by people whispered among themselves. As Huan Huo transformed into Fang Lin Kong’s identity soared on international yokai rankings like a rocket; even Banma from Africa praised him endlessly. Zhou Qingzhe adopted an attitude of wanting to cultivate him as a successor while numerous yokai families sought opportunities to ingratiate themselves with him. Unfortunately for them all, Fang Lin Kong rarely had time to use Huan Huo’s identity and could not be contacted easily.
Although he was in the crowd, he had no desire to compete for a good impression in his superior's eyes like his colleagues did. After walking a few steps with everyone, noticing that no one paid attention to him, he stopped, broke away from the group, and slowly turned around.
A charming woman seemed to sense his displeasure. She hesitated slightly, fell back a step, and followed him. "Little White! You've been practicing so hard lately; why are you so unhappy?"
Without raising his eyes, he recognized that only Dugu Ai, who shared his oceanic heritage at the International Yokai Alliance China Branch, would call him that. Dugu Ai's true form was a giant alligator that had gone extinct on Earth. With two thousand years of cultivation under her belt, she had only recently taken human form after being discovered by him in the deep sea and guided into the International Demon Alliance. To White Whale Born, Dugu Ai felt somewhat like a daughter or younger sister.
Not receiving a response from White Whale Born, Dugu Ai continued unabated, throwing out a barrage of questions: who had recently mastered what technique, what new weapons were being used, which shopping mall had launched new clothing lines, and what interesting events had occurred recently. Overwhelmed by her enthusiasm, White Whale Born decided to divert her attention. "How about we go to the Underground Arena? I hear your Electric Shock Power has improved; let's have some fun."
Dugu Ai eagerly agreed and followed him to the Underground Arena.
Gambling was an activity that never grew tiresome, especially when it involved bloodshed. Across Asia, there were only three established Underground Arenas. The one operated by the International Yokai Alliance China Branch was the newest and boasted the best facilities and venue, yet its popularity was lacking, attracting only tens of thousands of visitors daily.
White Whale Born intended to find an empty fighting arena for himself and Dugu Ai; however, today was unusual—every one of the forty Underground Arenas was fully booked. The visitor count had astonishingly surpassed three hundred thousand. Upon examining the day's schedule closely, he discovered that a group of monsters calling themselves the Firekeeper Guard had suddenly entered the competition.
If these monsters were merely strong fighters, their presence wouldn't have caused such a stir. The issue lay in their exceptional beauty; each one was a rare gem with lightly golden skin and near-perfect figures and features. They had also remained undefeated for over ten consecutive matches. The bets placed outside had reached millions, with numerous wealthy monsters offering staggering sums for a night with one of them.
Dugu Ai didn't mind the lack of available arenas; she was captivated by the allure of those female fighters and quickly found a spot to watch the battles. Just as White Whale Born was feeling bored, a hand suddenly slapped his shoulder. "White Whale Born! Fancy meeting an old friend! How's it going? I've just ordered a large fish tank; would you like to come settle down?"
White Whale Born quickly gathered his energy but found that he couldn't move even a fraction of his demonic power. The audacious voice belonged to none other than Fang Lin Kong, who would become a formidable figure in the future.
