In Fengshan Village, an Azure Light had been hovering in the sky for quite some time, causing the local residents to believe a UFO had appeared. They stopped to watch in awe.
"Indeed, according to the memories I obtained from that kid, the Twelfth Disciple is definitely here! Back then, the Senior Brother was too rigid. He expelled the disciple Liexiezi from the Kunlun Sect and insisted on annihilating him. As a result, he forced Liexiezi to seek refuge under the Blue Plow Ancestor. What a pity! Since a thousand years have passed, and Liexiezi has suffered enough, it should be sufficient to atone for his past sins. If I release Liexiezi now, I doubt Voidbreaker will hold it against me."
Above Fengshan Village was the Azure Sky Ancestor.
He shared a close bond with Liexiezi, unlike any other. It was he who brought Liexiezi into Kunlun all those years ago; although they were brothers in arms, their relationship was akin to that of a father and son. Upon learning that Liexiezi had not been killed by Voidbreaker, he rushed to offer his aid.
Voidbreaker’s Spell that trapped Liexiezi was formidable. Although Fang Lin Kong had taken away the sealing artifact, its power remained incredibly strong. For Liexiezi to break through the final barrier on his own would likely take him over ten more years. The Azure Sky Ancestor did not dare act recklessly; he observed from above for a long time before making up his mind.
"Heavenly Dao is vast; the Demon Dragon devours the sun! Manifest!"
The Azure Sky Ancestor was cautious by nature. He unleashed his most powerful treasure first: the Swallowing the Heavenly Dragon Armor! The International Demon Alliance had somehow acquired a collection of genes from various Divine Beasts and Celestial Birds and sent them to him for research. Consequently, he developed the strongest Gene Serum available and improved the Beast Armor. The Swallowing the Heavenly Dragon Armor was his most perfected creation. Once donned, his power surged dramatically; in terms of energy levels alone, he had subtly surpassed one million, rivaling any of Kyo Kusanagi's comrades.
However, the Azure Sky Ancestor felt some concern. After being trapped for a millennium and practicing dark arts, Liexiezi had transformed into a half-human, half-demon being. What if he no longer recognized his Fourth Senior Brother? In combat, he might not have the upper hand. Among the Kunlun Twelve Elders, due to his extensive research into chaotic matters, his cultivation had stagnated somewhat. The Liexiezi of yore had already surpassed him in skill and was now nearly on par with Senior Brother Voidbreaker.
With the Swallowing the Heavenly Dragon Armor on, confidence surged within him as thick scales covered his body and sharp horns adorned his head. A faint spiritual pressure enveloped him as a radiant beam shot forth like lightning. This strike aimed directly at the core of Voidbreaker's formation; empowered by the Swallowing the Heavenly Dragon Armor, he believed he could break through.
A thunderous roar shattered Fengshan Village's tranquility.
At that moment, Liexiezi was cultivating underground. Without Voidbreaker's artifacts left behind, this grand formation gradually lost its grip on him. Though he harbored deep resentment towards Voidbreaker for laying such traps, a millennium of silence had made him profoundly composed.
As Azure Sky Ancestor broke through the formation, Liexiezi sensed a loosening of pressure around him. With a thought, his Innate Sword Artifact expanded into countless emerald light beams that spread outward. The impact from Azure Sky Ancestor's strike created cracks in the formation; these emerald light beams were closely tied to his Spiritual Awareness and immediately sensed this fleeting gap. No matter how composed he was by nature, he could not suppress his excitement at this moment. Although this gap existed only for an instant, it was enough for Liexiezi to escape.
His form transformed into a streak of green light as the Light Wings formed by his Innate Sword Artifact shielded him while he darted out through the opening.
However, Voidbreaker's formation was not so easily breached. Just as Liexiezi emerged from underground, a surge of Golden Radiance swept up into the air, enveloping him completely.
"Voidbreaker! You truly hate me enough to want me dead!"
Liexiezi chuckled coldly as countless emerald sword lights split off from his Innate Sword Artifact, swirling around him like ribbons to prevent this layer of Golden Radiance from closing in on him.
In mid-air, Azure Sky Ancestor saw a towering figure burst forth from the ground and felt something was off. As he looked closer, he recognized that Liexiezi exuded a fierce demeanor, his body bare and tinged with a faint, grim green hue, with a pair of sharp horns atop his head. His heart sank. He thought, "This is bad! What has Twelfth Disciple turned into? I shouldn't rush to help him break the formation."
Azure Sky Ancestor called out loudly, "Is that you, Liexiezi? I am your senior brother, Qingmingzi!"
Liexiezi was struggling to fend off the invasion of Golden Radiance when he heard Azure Sky Ancestor's voice. He quickly turned his head and felt a surge of joy.
"Fourth Senior Brother, quickly help me break the formation!"
Hearing this call for help dispelled Azure Sky Ancestor's concerns. He flicked his wrist and revealed a large banner. During their time cultivating on Kunlun Mountain, the twelve brothers each possessed their own prized treasures. Azure Sky Ancestor's most cherished was the Azure Dragon Sea-Quelling Banner.
As the Azure Dragon Sea-Quelling Banner unfurled, twelve azure dragons soared into the air, crashing into the Golden Radiance one after another, causing it to rumble and shake.
The Golden Radiance set up by Voidbreaker shone brilliantly. Despite Liexiezi and Azure Sky Ancestor attacking from both inside and out, there was still no sign of weakness. Liexiezi desperately tried to deduce the changes in the formation when suddenly he recalled something important. He shouted urgently, "Fourth Senior Brother, this is Big Senior Brother's Golden Mist Barrier! You don't need to force an attack; hurry underground to find the formation's core and break its source of spiritual energy!"
Azure Sky Ancestor was directing the Azure Dragon Sea-Quelling Banner against Golden Radiance when he suddenly heard Liexiezi's shout and realized his mistake. He thought to himself, "I panicked for a moment and forgot about Big Senior Brother's treasure!"
He released the Azure Dragon Sea-Quelling Banner, which fluttered in the wind as twelve azure dragons danced around it. The power of the banner diminished as it helped relieve some pressure on Liexiezi without launching further attacks. Meanwhile, Azure Sky Ancestor transformed into a beam of azure light and dove underground.
Liexiezi thought to himself, "Voidbreaker really values this treasure. If I had broken free from the formation while my abilities were still weak, I would have been refined by the Golden Mist Barrier's Yuan Shen. If my power were strong enough, this Golden Mist Barrier would surely not hold up. If Fourth Senior Brother hadn't come today, this Golden Mist Barrier would definitely not have been safely collected."
Having been tricked by Fang Lin Kong and losing all his possessions except for an Innate Sword Artifact, he couldn't bear to destroy this extraordinary treasure. The Golden Mist Barrier was known among Kunlun disciples for its exceptional defensive capabilities. Liexiezi had long envied Big Senior Brother for possessing such an item. In that battle, if Voidbreaker had not underestimated Liexiezi and forgotten to take out the Golden Mist Barrier for defense, he would have been caught off guard and unable to retrieve it in time. Wutu Zhenluo could not break through Voidbreaker's defenses.
Liexiezi struggled for nearly half an hour when suddenly he felt a shift in the Golden Mist Barrier. He let out a hearty laugh and charged out from within the enveloping Golden Radiance using Sword and Body as One. Once free, his verdant sword light immediately countered and wrapped around the Golden Radiance instead. As Azure Sky Ancestor broke through the formation's core and emerged, he saw Liexiezi compressing the Golden Mist Barrier with his sword light until it was drawn into his possession.
He steadied himself slightly and said to Liexiezi, "Congratulations on breaking free from your predicament, junior brother. However, Big Senior Brother had his own difficulties back then, and he has already ascended..."
Liexiezi felt elated; after a thousand years of oppression, he finally saw Heaven's Day. He interrupted Azure Sky Ancestor's words and said, "Are you worried that I might cause trouble for some younger disciples of Kunlun Celestial Path? There's no need for that; after all, I am also from Kunlun—how could I do something that betrays our Patriarch? However, there are some old friends I still want to meet!"
Azure Sky Ancestor laughed heartily and replied, "Even if Twelfth Disciple wants to see some old friends, you must understand that after a thousand years, many people are no longer around."
Upon hearing this, Liexiezi paused slightly before a hint of melancholy crossed his face.
"Azure Sky Ancestor said, 'Twelfth Disciple has nowhere to go; why not stay with me for a few days? Or perhaps you should go find that kid named Fang Lin Kong and get back the Liexie Twin Hooks?'"
Liexiezi smiled slightly, waved his hand, and a beam of emerald sword light followed Azure Sky Ancestor away...
Kunlun Mountain, the most famous place in China for cultivating immortality.
A young man was making his way up the mountain. However, judging by his relaxed pace, it was clear that the difficult path posed no challenge for him.
If people were categorized by approachability, this young man would undoubtedly fall into the least approachable category. Anyone who looked at his face would be reminded of a poker-faced boss in an office or a workaholic colleague. Although this young man was not unattractive—indeed, he was quite handsome—the distance between good-looking men and those who are well-liked is greater than the distance from Earth to Mars.
This person was Eastern Thunder, returning to Kunlun to report on his duties.
After failing to ambush Fang Lin Kong and losing such an important target as Gouli Heaven's Tome, he felt quite disheartened. Therefore, after completing several recent tasks, he decided to return to Kunlun for further training to enhance his abilities.
Eastern Thunder confronted the void and slowly exhaled. At high altitudes, the air was thin, and there were hardly any tourists around. Once he was certain there were no issues, he spread his fingers open. A Tai Chi symbol glowed in his palm as a beam of golden light shot down from the void onto Eastern Thunder. This outstanding new generation disciple of Kunlun instantly vanished from his original spot.
In Chinese mythology, Kunlun does not refer to the Kunlun Mountains in northwest China but rather to Kunlun Wonderland, hidden in a parallel world. Even in the well-known game Xuanyuan Sword, this legend is echoed.
As Eastern Thunder was enveloped by the welcoming light of Kunlun Celestial Path and drawn into Kunlun Wonderland, he was greeted by a group of duty disciples.
Upon seeing Eastern Thunder's figure appear, they all respectfully welcomed him back.
These duty disciples were merely apprentices from the student class and had not yet attained the status of Taoist priests. Naturally, they held great respect for Eastern Thunder, who was a Qilin Daoist. Eastern Thunder had a strong personality and was too indifferent to engage in conversation with these students as he strode out of the Transference Platform.
Kunlun Wonderland consists of sixty-one floating islands in the void. The main base of the Kunlun sect is among the five largest floating islands.
The Transference Platform is also one of these floating islands. Although it is not large—covering several hundred meters—it serves as a hub where today’s sixteen duty disciples were checking their laptops. When they saw their senior brother activate the Tai Chi symbol, they immediately prepared to emit welcoming light. The Kunlun Celestial Path had kept pace with modern times by recently introducing a German-imported monitoring system, reducing the original one hundred and eight duty disciples to just sixteen—a sign of progress.
As Eastern Thunder stepped out of the Transference Platform, he immediately summoned his Flying Sword, Jing Zhi, and flew towards one of the five main islands: Eight Scenery Palace.
Among the five main islands, Eight Scenery Palace is the third largest but has the fewest buildings. Its flat surface spans over fifty square kilometers with little elevation. It serves as one of the primary locations for disciples of Kunlun Celestial Path to practice spells. Eastern Thunder intended to seek guidance from his teaching master there.
Eastern Thunder soared through the skies, where disciples of the sect greeted each other loudly, familiar with their mentors. The spiritual birds and exotic beasts gathered in the sect flew freely, and among them were private Riding Beasts. Some owners did not ride them, but the saddles installed on their backs were quite conspicuous.
Kunlun Wonderland boasted thousands of disciples, with over a thousand qualified as Taoists.
Since Kunlun Celestial Path entered the modern era, it underwent significant restructuring. Following contemporary educational models, the traditional master-apprentice relationship transformed into a mentorship system. Upon reaching a certain level of cultivation, disciples would receive corresponding titles and could then choose higher-level mentors to study more profound Taoist techniques. The practitioners of Kunlun were categorized into ten levels: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced Disciples, Xuanwu Priest, White Tiger Daoist, Vermilion Bird Daoist, Qilin Daoist, Azure Dragon Taoist, Five Elements Sorcerer, and Immortal Taoist.
The mentor of Eastern Thunder, Li Xuan, held the title of Azure Dragon Taoist. It was noteworthy that among the highest-ranking elders in Kunlun Celestial Path, most remained at the level of Five Elements Sorcerer. Thus, being an Azure Dragon Taoist was already a prestigious title just below that.
As Eastern Thunder landed at Yokohama Bay, a loud voice called out from afar.
“Eastern Thunder brother, it’s great to have you back! I heard we had a distinguished guest visit a few days ago, prompting the elders to advance this round of sect competitions. Recently, all disciples have been diligently cultivating in hopes of achieving better rankings in the upcoming competition. The prizes this time are said to be quite generous!”
Turning towards the voice, Eastern Thunder recognized it belonged to a fellow disciple under mentor Li Xuan, named Jin Buwei. Although he didn’t put much effort into his cultivation, he was very interested in various magical artifacts. Not only was he well-versed in internationally popular new artifacts, but he also dedicated significant effort to artifact forging. Kunlun Celestial Path had its own artifact research studio. Although it lagged behind the latest technologies from the International Demon Alliance and the Demon Hunting Team due to outdated concepts, it still achieved some unique accomplishments.
After graduating, Jin Buwei chose to stay within Kunlun, focusing on research in artifact forging.
Eastern Thunder looked down on Jin Buwei, saying lightly, “What remarkable figure has come this time? Even when Zhuang Lou visited last time, we didn’t make such a fuss!”
Surrounded by intricate instruments and wearing protective goggles that obscured his bright eyes, Jin Buwei had a high-frequency headset that nearly covered half his hair. His clothes billowed in the wind, revealing numerous wires densely packed inside his jacket.
“Eastern Thunder brother must be mistaken; this visitor is not like Zhuang Lou, Grand Master. It’s said that several elders in our sect are quite alarmed by this guest's arrival. They’ve been accompanying him in turns and have issued strict orders to treat him with utmost respect. Moreover, the prizes for this competition are rumored to include some special forging materials; even our sect’s treasured Nine Divine Swords have been brought out. It seems they intend to reforge the Golden Light Phosphor Demon Sword Formation.”
“Golden Light Phosphor Demon Sword Formation!”
Even someone as composed as Eastern Thunder couldn’t help but be stirred upon hearing that term.
Seeing Eastern Thunder’s reaction, Jin Buwei felt quite pleased with himself. He continued, “Our sect is renowned for sword cultivation, yet it has been ages since anyone succeeded in creating an Innate Sword Artifact. If we were surpassed by the Shushan Sword Sect, it wouldn’t be too surprising. However, nowadays when people mention sword techniques, everyone speaks of how unparalleled Zhuang Lou, Grand Master is. This time, it seems our elders have summoned the nine divine swords to reclaim our honor.”
Regaining his composure, Eastern Thunder replied, “There are many disciples in our sect, and candidates for forming the Golden Light Phosphor Demon Sword Formation are traditionally chosen by their sword spirits. Regardless of their cultivation level, without opportunity they are of no use.”
With a cold laugh, Jin Buwei said, “I don’t believe you’re not at all moved. Disciples capable of forming the Golden Light Phosphor Demon Sword Formation are always seen as having great potential and are regarded as future pillars of our sect; elders will nurture them specifically. Over the years, there have been outstanding disciples who failed to be selected for forming the formation and were gradually sidelined—never to recover.”
Eastern Thunder let out a cold snort, knowing deep down that Jin Buwei spoke the truth.
The Golden Light Phosphor Demon Sword Formation was a signature technique designed collaboratively by the Kunlun Sect and the Twelve Celestial Immortals. However, after Qingmingzi left Kunlun with the Ancient Sword Qingming, and Liexiezi took away the Liexie Twin Hooks, along with Voidbreaker being claimed by Fang Lin Kong, this kid showed little appreciation for valuable items, carelessly tossing this celestial sword together with over a hundred Flying Swords he had refined.
With these four celestial swords missing, Kunlun was left with only the remaining nine elder swords. Although the Golden Light Phosphor Demon Sword Formation was not complete, it was still the foremost offensive and defensive Spell in the world today. Throughout history, any disciple chosen to inherit these nine Divine Weapons from Kunlun might initially seem lacking in talent or shallow in cultivation, having only recently begun their training. Yet, often within just over ten years, those disciples selected by the Divine Weapons would encounter extraordinary fortunes and stand out among their peers.
Since Voidbreaker ascended, Kunlun had only managed to form the Golden Light Phosphor Demon Sword Formation twice. The first time was when Qilinzi selected disciples and gifted the sword Qilin to a Closed Door Disciple. Shortly thereafter, at the Celestial and Demonic Sword Duel Conference, they made quite an impression. The second time occurred when Qingqiuzi was about to ascend; lamenting that none of his disciples were suitable, he reluctantly found four promising disciples to inherit the four celestial swords that had lost their masters. Together with five original disciples, they formed the second Golden Light Phosphor Demon Sword Formation. During Qingqiuzi's ascension, they invited various sects to witness. Qingqiuzi's eldest disciple had already inherited his sword Azure Essence. At the moment of Qingqiuzi's ascension, leading eight junior brothers, they formed the Golden Light Phosphor Demon Sword Formation to resist Heavenly Tribulation, allowing Qingqiuzi to ascend smoothly and shocking the world! Since then, although many talented individuals have emerged from various sects, Kunlun Celestial Path maintained its reputation as the foremost sect in the world.
If a cultivator could not step into that mystical realm, there would eventually come a day when their lifespan would run out. Coupled with conflicts among righteous and evil sects and external demonic threats, one could easily meet an untimely death when caught off guard. After several major upheavals, in modern times, all nine celestial swords of Kunlun had lost their masters. Naturally, the Golden Light Phosphor Demon Sword Formation fell apart.
Upon hearing this news, Eastern Thunder pondered for a moment. He thought to himself: "As for several elders in the sect, there's no need to mention them; they cannot become new masters of the celestial swords. Among my fellow brothers and sisters, only Zhou Huang, Stone Mirror, and Wenren Tingtao are slightly stronger than me but not by much. Although I cannot predict who will be chosen by the sword spirit, it certainly won't be those students."
After much contemplation, Eastern Thunder decided not to seek out his mentor Li Xuan anymore. He soared through the air on a beam of sword light directly towards Floating Light Island, Azure Play Palace.
"Wen Zhongda! You are the most outstanding disciple of Kunlun Celestial Path and the only one in nearly six hundred years with hope of ascending to Immortal Taoist status. Now that Patriarch Danxiazi has returned, this is your chance to seek guidance from him. Do not let me down!"
Inside Floating Light Island's Azure Play Palace stood an elderly Taoist priest with white hair and beard speaking to a young teacher-like figure—Wen Zhongda—who lived in the same city as Fang Lin Kong.
"Master! You know I do not wish to bear such heavy responsibilities. There are many disciples in our sect now; my fellow brothers and sisters are all diligent. One day Kunlun will flourish without needing me!"
Wen Zhongda had been summoned by his mentor via a text message to return to Kunlun. He was mostly unwilling but did not want to go against his mentor's wishes and could only politely decline.
The old Taoist priest Haocangxu sighed slightly with understanding: "Modern young people prioritize love above all else and are reluctant to shoulder social responsibilities. I will no longer urge you to return to Kunlun; however, if it is convenient for you this time during the selection of sword masters for the Golden Light Phosphor Demon Sword Formation, please consider participating just for form's sake! Of course, if you do not wish even for that, I will not force you!"
Wen Zhongda helplessly replied: "I still have some lesson plans to prepare recently; besides, someone’s birthday is coming up soon and I haven't even prepared a gift!"
After a moment of silence, Haocangxu suddenly erupted in anger: "Wen Zhongda you little brat! I taught you all this for nothing; now you're so enchanted by that Zhang Xian Ni girl that you don't even regard your master? Get out of here! Scoundrel!"
Wen Zhongda felt wronged as he wiped his face covered in spittle from being scolded: "Just now you said you wouldn't make it difficult for me?"
Haocangxu extended his fingers menacingly and pulled out a wolf fang club from somewhere: "I won’t make it difficult for you; at most today I'll just give you a good thrashing! Let’s see how refreshed you'll feel!"
Wen Zhongda, no matter how well-mannered he was, dared not sit still and take a beating when his mentor swung the massive wolf fang club wildly. Haocangxu, an elder of the Jiang family, was growing more steadfast with age. Wen Zhongda thought to himself, "If my mentor Haocangxu accidentally injures me while swinging that thing, it won't look good when I go to see my girlfriend."
He pushed off the ground with his foot and leaped into the air. Haocangxu's club technique was superb; with a shake of his weapon, dozens of club shadows appeared. He shouted angrily, "Today, I'll make you regret that night!"
Wen Zhongda was one of the few in Kunlun who excelled in the Dual Cultivation of Magic and Martial Arts. He flipped in mid-air and kicked the end of his mentor's wolf fang club aside, creating an opening before taking off running.
Haocangxu waved his large sleeves, unleashing six beams of golden sword light. Seeing that his mentor was genuinely angry, Wen Zhongda did not dare to delay. He leaped into the air, a red glow enveloping him as he activated his Innate Sword Artifact at about seventy percent power and flew out of the Azure Play Palace.
At that moment, Eastern Thunder arrived at the Azure Play Palace and saw Wen Zhongda fleeing in a panic. A wave of disdain washed over him. Wen Zhongda's cultivation far surpassed his peers, and with Eastern Thunder's prideful nature, he naturally held no fondness for him. As Wen Zhongda passed by, he did not greet him but instead veered into the Azure Play Palace.
The Azure Play Palace served a function similar to that of the Central Grand Hall and was open to all students. Thus, Eastern Thunder had no reason to suspect anything amiss. When six beams of yellow light came rushing toward him, he was caught off guard and quickly slammed on the brakes, crashing to the ground just as Haocangxu's sword light narrowly missed his head.
"What is Haocangxu going crazy about now?"
Eastern Thunder was quite irritated but dared not say much to someone as senior as Haocangxu. He could only watch as Haocangxu moved like a shadow with his sword, flying through the air.
As he stormed into the Exhibition Hall filled with anger, he found dozens of Kunlun disciples sitting quietly in meditation.
The Exhibition Hall of the Azure Play Palace housed Unclaimed Treasures accumulated over many years from Kunlun Celestial Path. These artifacts were either seized from Evil Cultivation Sects or passed down from predecessors within their sect. Because these treasures possessed their own spirits and would not obey ordinary people’s commands, they were placed here to see which treasures would find their rightful owners. Many new students often came here hoping for a stroke of luck. Currently, the Nine Mouths Town's Sect Immortal Sword was also displayed here.
