The Demon Hunter license is jointly issued by the Demon Hunting Team and the American Exorcist Guild, which means that the examination is overseen by examiners from both organizations. Among them are seasoned veterans holding advanced Demon Hunter Licenses, as well as seemingly obscure yet highly skilled senior members of the Demon Hunting Team who have slain countless demons.
Following the address on the notification, Fang Lin Kong led Wen Yi, Chen Mingbin, Ma Jingjie, Lin Yu, and Ye Lisha to hail two taxis, preparing to head to the assembly point. The funding for this examination came from an ancient family within the Demon Hunting Team, so they did not need to bother with finding a hotel. The family owned a private castle that had been passed down through generations, said to date back to the time of King Louis the Seventy-Two, boasting a history of over a thousand years. It was rumored that Saint Joan had once gathered resistance fighters there, and it could comfortably accommodate thousands.
Naturally, this castle could not be located within the city limits. Fang Lin Kong struggled to communicate with the drivers using his limited French and received discouraging responses. These so-called authentic Frenchmen, who had supposedly roamed Paris since childhood, had never heard of this place and refused to drive according to the map provided by Fang Lin Kong and the others.
Fang Lin Kong was furious and began arguing with the French drivers.
Lin Yu managed to pull Fang Lin Kong away just in time, but that ended any thoughts of finding another taxi. Fortunately, there were still car rental services available in France. After some discussion, Fang Lin Kong volunteered to drive, confident in his past experience with high-speed chases.
Although Lin Yu practiced Xian Dao martial arts, she was not a tomboy; rather, she was quite well-behaved. Ye Lisha appeared more spirited than Lin Yu but was equally clueless about anything outside of school and training. They didn’t even ask if Fang Lin Kong had an international driver’s license valid in Europe before agreeing to his rash suggestion.
Due to his first-time driving experience, Fang Lin Kong had a particular fondness for off-road vehicles. However, most of the rental cars were second-hand models, and he didn’t expect to find anything as luxurious as a Hummer.
After haggling with a taxi company near the airport, Fang Lin Kong managed to rent a Dodge Jeep that was said to have been used by American troops during the Normandy landings. This vehicle was one of the standard pieces of equipment for the U.S. military back then and was known for its durability. Even now, it looked quite imposing among a lineup of used cars; it was certainly one of the largest.
Fang Lin Kong's decision pleased Wen Yi, Chen Mingbin, Ma Jingjie, and the two ladies immensely. The reason was simple: this heavy Hummer was the only vehicle at this taxi company that could accommodate six people.
The taxi company was quite professional; they replaced the original hard seats with cushions. Originally designed for mounting heavy machine guns or anti-tank guns, it sported a large spotlight that would undoubtedly attract attention when illuminated at night.
Fang Lin Kong was cautious; he not only had an employee test-drive the vehicle around for any issues but also specifically requested an extra barrel of high-quality gasoline in addition to filling up the tank.
The rental process at this company was straightforward; they took Fang Lin Kong's deposit and phone number without checking passports or even asking if they were old enough to drive legally. As Fang Lin Kong drove off in this battered vehicle, an employee waved goodbye with a friendly smile.
Following the map drawn on the notification letter like an experienced guide, Fang Lin Kong drove the Dodge Hummer through this city of art. The map seemed quite clear; after stepping on the gas pedal hard for an hour and a half, they were already racing along a highway in the wilderness.
Wen Yi initially worried about Fang Lin Kong's ability to navigate, but after comparing the map himself, he realized there was nothing to be concerned about. He shifted the topic and began chatting with Lin Yu and Ye Lisha. With their shared adventurous experiences, Ye Lisha found Wen Yi's boastful chatter less annoying. Occasionally, she couldn't help but giggle at his exaggerated gestures and outrageous remarks.
Chen Mingbin, who usually spoke little, felt the wind tousling his recently grown long hair. Along the way, several charming French women threw him flirtatious glances, with some even boldly pouting their lips to send him air kisses. If it weren't for Fang Lin Kong's unwavering focus on the road, it was likely that a few lovely ladies would have already joined Chen Mingbin.
Ma Jingjie was typically more reserved, unlike Wen Yi who loved to show off, and he didn't have as many worries as Chen Mingbin. At this moment, he was captivated by the urban scenery that was so different from the East. Even after leaving the city, he lingered on the beautiful views along the roadside.
As they drove along, Fang Lin Kong suddenly looked puzzled as he compared the map. He slammed on the brakes, causing everyone to lurch forward from the sudden stop.
Wen Yi was enjoying a lively conversation with the two beautiful women when the abrupt braking interrupted him, making him quite irritated. He exclaimed, "Fang Lin Kong! Why are you driving like that? What’s with the sudden stop? This is a country road; there’s nothing blocking our way and no red lights! Why are you stopping? Are you in a hurry?"
Fang Lin Kong frowned and after a moment tossed the map to Wen Yi, saying, "You take a look! We have no road left to travel!"
Wen Yi glanced at the map without paying much attention and shouted back, "What nonsense are you talking about? How can there be no road? There are clearly two ahead... Wait! Two? Didn’t the map indicate three roads? Fang Lin Kong, did you take a wrong turn?"
After a moment of contemplation, Wen Yi looked again at the map and suddenly realized that the marked route pointed directly to the middle road, which was conspicuously absent in front of them.
Fang Lin Kong simply pointed at a signpost ahead and motioned for Wen Yi to compare the letters of the road names.
Others had also begun to doubt whether they had taken a wrong turn. Although they couldn't read French, they could still recognize letters well enough to see that there was indeed no mistake about the road in front of them; the only error was that the middle road had vanished.
Wen Yi scratched his head and suggested, "Why don't we just go through between those two roads? It should lead us there!"
Before Fang Lin Kong could respond, Ye Lisha raised her delicate finger to her forehead and closed her beautiful eyes. Everyone knew she was using magic to find their way and dared not disturb her. After about seven or eight minutes, Ye Lisha opened her eyes and said in a low voice, "There’s a strange rift here, but I can't find a way in. Our destination should be inside this spatial rift."
Hearing this, Wen Yi became quite frustrated and shouted loudly, "Why do we need to deal with all this mysticism just to get a Demon Hunter license? Why hide the exit? What sense does that make?"
"This doesn't make any sense. This is the first test of the Demon Hunter Exam. What is a country bumpkin like you shouting about here?"
Wen Yi's words were immediately met with a crisp, youthful voice in rebuttal. A boy on a bicycle sped toward them, moving faster than an ordinary car. Just five meters away from Fang Lin Kong and the others, he suddenly executed a beautiful drift, sliding three steps on the dirt before coming to a steady stop in the middle of the intersection.
Ignoring the furious Wen Yi, the boy extended one hand at the intersection. The air, which had been empty moments before, suddenly rippled like water, creating a fresh and elegant scene that transformed from illusion to reality. A third road appeared on the ground where there had previously been nothing.
Seeing this, Wen Yi was excited and ready to step forward, but the boy turned back and made a face, mocking him. "Rube! You might as well stay outside until you're disqualified! Wanting to gain without effort? Not a chance!"
Before Wen Yi's plump body could take a second step, the boy had already dashed inside, and the once-clear scenery quickly became blurry, disappearing before Wen Yi could reach it.
Frustrated at having grasped only air, Wen Yi kicked the bicycle left behind by the boy. However, he was met with a strange force that sent tingles throughout his body, leaving him trembling in place.
At that moment, Chen Mingbin suddenly asked Fang Lin Kong a question.
"Do you have a way to get in?"
Fang Lin Kong gazed at the spot where the boy had entered for a long time before responding with a wry smile. "I do have a method, but it might be a bit rough."
Without hesitation, Wen Yi replied, "Who cares if it's rough or not? If you have a way to do it, are you really going to wait until you're disqualified?"
Fang Lin Kong shook his head, spreading his hands. "In that case, I'm going to take action. You all should stand back."
Ye Lisha added, "No need to stand too far back; I can set up a defensive barrier to protect everyone for a bit. Fang Lin Kong, feel free to use any powerful techniques you have—there won't be any hindrance!"
"Alright then! Everyone be careful; I'm about to make my move!"
Fang Lin Kong smiled slightly, tightening his left fist. A blue and white arc of electricity crackled around his knuckles, quickly generating a whirlwind of wind energy that formed a small tornado above his fist.
"Tornado Strike!"
Fang Lin Kong strode forward, extending his right hand while delivering a powerful blow with his left fist, infused with immense force.
The spatial barrier sealing the area was not particularly sophisticated. Fang Lin Kong could see at a glance that as long as there was enough spiritual energy, it could disrupt the spatial concealment and reveal what was hidden. In this regard, Ye Lisha's earlier statement was incomplete; she had the ability to enter but lacked the power to bring others along. Fang Lin Kong faced the same issue, but he had another option.
While he couldn't bring everyone in, he could ensure they entered. Such a level of spatial concealment could be completely destroyed with sufficient strength. Ye Lisha wouldn't dare to consider such a violent approach, nor did she possess that kind of power. However, Fang Lin Kong didn't care about that; having just acquired the Kunlun Taoist Secret Techniques and surpassed the Transformation Realm, he was brimming with confidence.
The Tornado Strike was magnificent and powerful. The layer meant to separate the space couldn't withstand such a tremendous impact. The raging hurricane swept through, not only breaking through the exit but also devastating the beautiful scenery within the spatial rift. The grass on the ground was torn away, creating a deep trench six or seven meters wide and over a hundred meters long, exposing the rich black soil beneath.
With the path now clear, the six of them drove forward. Not far ahead, a massive ancient castle appeared before their eyes.
Fang Lin Kong and his companions had forcefully breached the Demon Hunter Exam venue using destructive means, but if they thought their reckless actions would go unpunished, they were gravely mistaken.
Their Dodge Hummer was soon encased in a chilling wave of ice, and Wen Yi, who had been leisurely standing up to admire the scenery inside the vehicle, lost his grip on the handrail and fell to the ground.
Four men with distinct appearances descended from above and coldly announced, "For wantonly destroying the spatial barrier, I hereby declare your disqualification as candidates!"
