**Chapter Nine: Sea God Clan**
In just a few short hours, Fang Lin Kong found himself in a life-threatening situation.
Ding Chifeng, ever loyal, quickly gathered all the information and located Fang Lin Kong.
The Tartarus clan belonged to the Sea God Clan. Their members lived in the ocean, and while they were technically a type of monster rather than descendants of any divine race, it was undeniable that as one of the few intelligent species on Earth, their form of life was more advanced than that of humans.
Monsters on Earth could be divided into two categories: one being special non-human intelligent races. This included well-known figures from Western mythology such as vampires and werewolves, the Elephant God Clan from India, Minotaurs, the dragon race from Chinese legends, and the Tengu from Japan. The other category consisted of ordinary creatures that had undergone mutations, such as the White Whale Born and Li Bing, which were unique life forms that emerged by chance in nature. They gained intelligence and gradually transformed themselves using the Vitality of heaven and earth, acquiring immense power.
The origins of the Tartarus clan were completely untraceable, but their members were born with the ability to manipulate water flow and breathe freely in the ocean. They had an innate sensitivity to water-based spells. Furthermore, since there were no natural enemies in the sea, they thrived abundantly, making their population second only to that of the blood clan among monsters.
Lagus Ting, whom Fang Lin Kong killed, was the only son of a prominent elder in the Tartarus clan. It was said that when news reached the Tartarus clan, this elder flew into a rage and dispatched seven skilled warriors to hunt down Fang Lin Kong.
Ding Chifeng also brought an unhelpful piece of information: the group that attacked the Chifeng Legion's shooting club did so because Lagus Ting was bored and wanted some entertainment. Of course, Fang Lin Kong could not expect this news to provide him with any opportunity for defense.
At this point, Ding Chifeng did not hide anything from Fang Lin Kong. The Chifeng Legion was no longer able to protect him, and the only thing Ding Chifeng could do was advise Fang Lin Kong to flee. The Crimson Peak King assured Fang Lin Kong that he would take care of his parents and Ding Qingya.
Fang Lin Kong listened quietly as Ding Chifeng provided him with what he needed for his escape. He also offered several suggested routes on a map. The Kunlun Celestial Path in China was clearly a suitable choice; Ding Chifeng had already purchased tickets for him. Alternatively, there was Kongtong, where Grand Master Zhuang Lou resided—a good option as well.
Confronted by the enthusiastic Crimson Peak King, Fang Lin Kong suddenly asked, “Brother Ding! I want to know how many people are in the Tartarus clan? What is that elder’s status within the clan?”
Ding Chifeng paused slightly before answering honestly, “The Tartarus clan has about six hundred thousand members, with around seventy to eighty thousand capable of living on land. There are hundreds of experts with a demonic energy level exceeding one thousand. Lagus Ting’s father holds significant status within the clan; he is similar to an elder. I don’t know exactly how many there are, but there should be several dozen.”
Ding Chifeng’s response gradually instilled confidence in Fang Lin Kong’s eyes.
“I only offended Lagus Ting’s father; I did not offend the entire Tartarus clan. I can handle seven assassins. Thank you for your concern about my escape, Brother Ding; I will manage it myself.”
Fang Lin Kong's firm refusal left Ding Chifeng quite surprised. Although he did not understand where Fang Lin Kong's confidence came from, he was not the type to linger or hesitate. Ding Chifeng patted Fang Lin Kong on the shoulder and handed him a black box, saying lightly, "Brother Ding is doing this for the entire Chifeng Legion. I won't be able to help you with what comes next. You must accept this gift as my final gesture."
Having made up his mind, Ding Chifeng set the item down and left decisively. For him, everything had its limits; he had done all he could, and doing more would be irrational. After all, he could not afford to act on emotions. The Chifeng Legion did not need a leader who was impulsive and willing to gamble with the lives of his comrades.
Fang Lin Kong had his worries, but he was even more convinced that his choice was better than fleeing. He activated his mind, constantly pondering all useful information. Clearly, there was a problem at the headquarters of the International Demon Alliance; otherwise, Duskaya would not be unable to control its subordinates. In this city, if the International Demon Alliance headquarters could not effectively unify command, then there was no need to expect efficiency from the upper echelons of the International Demon Alliance. As for the assassins sent by Tartarus, they actually reassured Fang Lin Kong. This news also implied that the International Demon Alliance itself would not interfere in this matter. Fang Lin Kong did not have to confront the largest monster organization in the world. Despite the ongoing division within the International Demon Alliance, Fang Lin Kong did not wish to stand against them.
After analyzing everything, Fang Lin Kong's problem became simple. Now he only needed to deal with seven assassins from Tartarus. As for future developments, he would think about them later.
With this realization, Fang Lin Kong began preparing for battle.
On Duskaya's side, after losing a few members, they became much more subdued. Meanwhile, the True Flame Sect's Eastern faction took a spectator's stance and set aside their work. Why would they help Fang Lin Kong? It was laughable! Sdeck hated Fang Lin Kong to the core; it was already quite restrained of him not to have killed Fang Lin Kong's entire family. Expecting the True Flame Sect to adopt the foolish strategy of "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" was unrealistic. Fang Lin Kong might as well pray for Taishang Laojun to descend; his chances of being saved would be greater.
Now, Fang Lin Kong had become the focal point of all dark forces in this city.
However, what surprised Fang Lin Kong was that the legendary assassins from Tartarus did not arrive in mainland China until mid-September.
There are five cities in China with populations in the tens of millions, among which Shanghai holds the title of Magic City and has the largest population. Most international flights entering China require layovers in major cities. So when Omega set foot on Magic City's land, he couldn't help but marvel at the prosperity of this ancient Eastern nation.
Due to Western reports on China being scarce and unreliable, before arriving in China, Omega's mind conjured images of yellow-skinned men with long braids running amok in this ancient land.
He even believed that Taiwanese joke about how mainland China had to use hand-cranked generators and hire farmers to power their computers just to argue with Taiwanese netizens.
The plane landed at midnight. Omega saw bright lights below that outnumbered the stars in the sky and even doubted whether he had mistakenly bought a ticket to America.
Having grown accustomed to life in Europe, Omega found it normal for a city to remain largely unchanged for hundreds of years. Therefore, he never expected that China's claim of being the world's largest consumer of cement could create such miracles.
The legendary Magic City Shanghai appeared before Omega with an incredible visage that could buy half of America if all its land were sold.
As a member of Tartarus, despite having access to one of Europe's top law firms, Omega found himself reluctantly compelled to take action. If it weren't for this request from his clan coming from his mentor, Omega would never have agreed to this mission. His mentor's only son, Lagus Ting, had been killed while carrying out a task in China. Although Omega looked down on Lagus Ting as a spoiled rich kid who relied solely on his mentor's reputation and Tartarus' protection while causing trouble everywhere, he did not want his mentor to spend the latter part of his life engulfed in grief over losing a child.
"Target is a young man who has just entered the realm of cultivation. From the information available, he seems to be nothing but lucky. No background, no connections. Fang Lin Kong! Just wait for me to take your life!"
Omega confidently walked out of the airport. He was someone who appreciated the finer things in life. This time, Omega had a complete plan for his mission. Killing Fang Lin Kong was not a problem for him. For Omega, coming to the East without visiting the famous landmarks and buying some unique gifts for his fiancée would be the biggest regret.
He planned to stay in Shanghai for seven days.
Omega casually hailed a taxi and told the driver, "Grand Hyatt Shanghai!"
Out of habit, Omega asked about the weather in Shanghai in English. It suddenly struck him that he was in China when he received a fluent response from the driver ahead. For a moment, Omega felt as if he were in Washington.
He remarked with admiration, "The quality of drivers in China is quite high; it's rare to find one who understands English."
However, the reply from the front was blunt. "Quality? What a load of crap! These days, more people in China learn bird language than human language. If knowing English is considered high quality, then I wouldn’t need to drive. I could just apply for any job; I might not even know how to write Chinese characters anymore, but I must have a CET-4 or CET-6 certificate."
Omega was taken aback by the rude driver's response, unable to speak. He could hardly imagine that someone who had just been polite and fluent in English could turn around and curse with the same language so vividly.
Curious, Omega decided to engage the driver in conversation. To his surprise, this driver was well-spoken and articulate. Although he didn’t use any vulgar language, his words were vivid and humorous.
Before he knew it, Omega suddenly realized that the scenery on both sides of the road was quite desolate. Although he had never been to Shanghai before, based on his earlier impressions, such a bustling metropolis shouldn’t have five-star hotels built in remote areas.
Feeling suspicious, Omega tentatively asked, "Excuse me! Are you sure this is the way to Grand Hyatt Shanghai?"
The answer he received was unexpected.
The driver cheerfully replied, "We Chinese are very hospitable. I'm not taking you to a hotel; I'm taking you to my grandmother's house!"
Omega lacked sufficient understanding of Chinese customs and felt quite touched by this response.
"Are you inviting me to meet your elders? I've heard that Chinese cuisine is very distinctive, and the hospitality of Chinese people is renowned worldwide."
The driver in front burst into laughter upon hearing the response. In a very authentic Tartarus dialect, he turned around and said seriously, "In Chinese, 'grandma's house' roughly corresponds to Olimiga. What I mean is that I am taking you to Olimiga, the place your Tartarus people long for the most."
"What! You're talking nonsense—"
Omega suddenly heard his most familiar language, and instead of feeling shocked, he was filled with anger.
Olimiga in Tartarus language refers to the ancestral homeland. According to the ancient yet unverified legends of Tartarus, Olimiga is the paradise of the Tartarus people. Every deceased member of the Tartarus tribe goes to that legendary place, which is incredibly beautiful and filled with tranquility and peace, a promised land made up of seven vast water worlds.
It was not surprising that this driver understood the history of the Tartarus people. However, the implication behind his words—that he wanted to take his life—ignited Omega's fighting spirit, and the turbulent water energy within him was already building up.
Omega remained on high alert and asked each word deliberately, "Who exactly are you? Why are you seeking death?"
The taxi came to a sudden stop. The driver turned around sharply; his face looked like that of a sunny young man, appearing innocent and warm.
"My name is Fang Lin Kong. You must have heard of me; your goal in coming to China is none other than me."
