Chapter Eight: The Cause of Trouble 0

Recently, it seemed that no matter which local television station one tuned into, there were always shocking news reports. Stories of rampant crime filled the airwaves, such as a female worker who was attacked on her way home last night, robbed of her cash and left in critical condition. Or there were reports of headless corpses found in the suburbs, suspected to be the work of a notorious criminal. 0

Of course, there were also humorous incidents. For instance, Mr. Zhang returned home from work one day and saw a man sprinting out of an alley with a large object in hand. In a panic, he picked up a brick and threw it at the man. During their scuffle, he hurriedly fled. The next day, when he recounted the story to his neighbor, he heard Mr. Li say: 0

"Last night, I went downstairs to take out the trash and was targeted by a thug. Luckily, I was quick-witted and threw the garbage bag at him. While he was distracted, I managed to escape with my life!" 0

After both sides confronted each other, they realized it had all been a false alarm; it turned out they had both been overly jumpy. 0

As a result, many universities suspended evening study sessions and sent students home early to avoid any incidents for which the schools might be held responsible. 0

Fang Lin Kong thus found himself with plenty of time to practice. 0

The Wind Riding Technique was profound yet accessible; when mastered to an advanced level, one could harness the flow of air and soar through the skies. However, starting out required following the path of Refining Qi, focusing first on opening up all the body's meridians and emphasizing bone tempering. 0

Birds can fly not only because they have wings but also due to their hollow bones, which are lightweight yet sturdy. This gives them a lighter body weight and strong muscles that can support prolonged wing flapping. 0

The beginning of the Wind Riding Technique required abundant true energy capable of refining impurities within the body. This was not an issue for Fang Lin Kong. Next came the challenge of adjusting airflow direction and executing body movements. 0

After over half a month of diligent practice at home, Fang Lin Kong felt inspired one day and invited his friends Wen Yi, Ma Jingjie, and Chen Mingbin to visit Ding Chifeng's shooting club. 0

As Fang Lin Kong slowly floated into the air amidst the envious gazes of his three friends, he immediately attracted six more envious stares. 0

Even with various fortunate encounters, mastering this cultivation path could not be achieved overnight. Fang Lin Kong had only reached the third level of the Wind Riding Technique and could barely hover a few meters off the ground. Any attempt to move forward or sideways would cause him to lose lift and fall back to the ground. 0

Despite this limitation, his ability was enough to make Wen Yi, Chen Mingbin, and Ma Jingjie envious. They immediately surrounded Fang Lin Kong, demanding that he share his insights and techniques so everyone could benefit together. 0

In the tense atmosphere of these days, few people had ventured out to relax. Stuck at home, they were feeling restless. It was nice to have some time to play around and let off steam. 0

Although there had been some fighting recently, it was not intense. Fang Lin Kong learned from Duskaya that Zhou Qingzhe and Zhang Rongying were almost recovered from their injuries. Camberto from the True Flame Sect and Allen from the Demon Hunting Team had also shown signs of activity. However, Yuan Qian Kun was still missing, and no one knew where he was recuperating. The situation for the International Demon Alliance was unfavorable, and the two other Executives of the Chairman had not issued any orders. 0

Nevertheless, the actions of the International Demon Alliance and the True Flame Sect had already alarmed Grandmaster Zhuang Lou, who was in seclusion at Kongtong. Zhuang Lou had issued a stern condemnation, demanding that both the International Demon Alliance and the True Flame Sect immediately withdraw from the invaded regions of China. Until negotiations yielded results, all combat actions were intentionally or unintentionally limited to a certain scale. 0

In the world of demons, strength was paramount. Until the outcome of a decisive battle among Divine Extremity experts was revealed, all movements could be mere illusions, potentially leading to one's demise. Under the influence of modern civilization, demons had come to understand that brute force was not the only decisive tool; overwhelming power was what truly mattered. 0

Fang Lin Kong left his brothers who were studying the Wind Riding Technique at the shooting range and wasted two boxes of ammunition before suddenly saying, "In a few days, it's the National Day holiday. Ding Qingya said she wants to join Cen Xiaoying and others for a television program. How about we go support them?" 0

Before Wen Yi and the others could respond, an urgent phone call rang out. Chen Mingbin picked it up casually, only to hear hurried breathing on the other end. "Enemies have invaded! Everyone prepare to retreat. The front has already fallen... ah!" 0

With a piercing scream followed by a loud crash, silence fell on the line. 0

"Enemies!" Chen Mingbin shouted as he hung up. 0

The shooting club was established by Ding Chifeng for training his subordinates. Although there were human clients coming in and out, most were members of the Chifeng Legion. 0

In recent days, members of the Chifeng Legion had faced multiple attacks, but this was the first time enemies had come knocking at their door. 0

Wen Yi, though often flamboyant, had no combat experience. When confronted with danger, his first instinct was to flee. Chen Mingbin and Ma Jingjie felt similarly; being ordinary students at heart, they lacked the composure needed to face a crisis calmly. 0

As the three panicked together, Fang Lin Kong shouted, "Calm down! It's too late to run now. I can sense their presence; we are already surrounded. Follow me! We will fight our way out." 0

Chen Mingbin replied to Fang Lin Kong, "Are you crazy? With our skills, charging out would be suicide! I'm not going to play hero with you." 0

Fang Lin Kong shook his head in silence; he could clearly sense that dozens of powerful presences surrounded the shooting club. Over ten familiar energies had already vanished—this meant significant casualties for the Chifeng Legion. Such a large-scale ambush was clearly premeditated; all escape routes had been blocked. 0

Wen Yi showed some loyalty by grabbing Chen Mingbin as he tried to leave and called out to Fang Lin Kong, "Fang Lin Kong, let's run together! If we don't leave now, it will be too late!" 0

Fang Lin Kong let out a bitter laugh. Before he could explain further, an elegant male voice interjected, "Unfortunately, you are already too late to leave!" 0

The door of the fourth shooting range crashed down. A graceful man strode in confidently. The killing intent emanating from him made Wen Yi and the others freeze in place. However, Fang Lin Kong's reaction was different; his eyes instantly turned bloodshot. He was furious! 0

The man had a beautiful girl by the throat, and her uniform indicated that she was one of the employees of the shooting club. Upon seeing Fang Lin Kong and the others, the man seemed particularly excited. He tightened his grip, and the girl, who had been struggling desperately, quickly slumped down, her eyes losing all signs of life. 0

"Beast! These are just ordinary people! They pose no threat to you monsters!" 0

Ding Chifeng's shooting club employed a large number of ordinary people. If they were caught up in this chaos, it could only be described as a premeditated massacre. 0

Casually tossing the girl aside like a rag doll, the intruder seemed indifferent. 0

"Humans are nothing but useless waste. Are there not enough animal species for them to be exterminated? Killing one or two of them is hardly significant; it doesn't even amount to one ten-thousandth of humanity's crimes." 0

Wen Yi, who was the most timid, had never witnessed someone being murdered before and was now crouched on the ground, violently retching. Sensing the murderous intent from their opponent, Chen Mingbin and Ma Jingjie took up defensive stances. Only Fang Lin Kong remained silent; he no longer appeared as furious as before and quietly asked, "What are you? What is your true form?" 0

The man smiled arrogantly and replied, "I am of the Tartarus tribe, part of the Sea God Clan. I am not aligned with filthy monsters." 0

Fang Lin Kong's voice sounded like metal scraping against stone, sending chills down spines. 0

"I don't care what kind of godly tribe you are; I guarantee that the next beast to face extinction will be Tartarus!" 0

Before the Tartarus man could respond, Fang Lin Kong's furious fist appeared at his face in an instant. With a sharp crack, it seemed as if Fang Lin Kong had shattered a bubble; the self-proclaimed Sea God Clan member's body splintered into countless fragments. 0

"Water magic! Mirror Space Technique!" 0

"Impressive? Watch my Liexie Twin Hooks, Solar Fire Orbs, Great Freedom Heaven Realm Seven Treasures Banner!" 0

Having fought numerous battles, Fang Lin Kong had accumulated considerable experience and understood the importance of quick resolutions. In an instant, he unleashed his treasures. The opponent clearly underestimated Fang Lin Kong's capabilities; entering battle without knowledge of his opponent's techniques was tantamount to seeking death. A brilliant blue current arced into a massive shape as the self-identified Sea God Clan member's Invisibility Technique was instantly dispelled by the electric light. He did not expect the power of Liexie Twin Hooks to be so formidable; amidst the lightning energy lay an icy chill that could freeze everything. All spells from the Sea God Clan relied on water as a medium, yet Liexie Twin Hooks could counter any water-based spell. The man's body first froze before being swept away by the lightning energy, shattering into countless fragments. 0

Fang Lin Kong had just taken down an enemy, and the morale was soaring. He had managed to eliminate the foe without even using the Solar Fire Orbs or the Great Freedom Heaven Realm Seven Treasures Banner, which boosted his confidence immensely. With a casual gesture, he summoned the Great Freedom Heaven Realm Seven Treasures Banner, transforming it into a protective barrier that shielded himself, Wen Yi, Chen Mingbin, and Ma Jingjie. As Fang Lin Kong activated the banner's power, it erupted with a thunderous sound, shattering the roof of the shooting range and soaring into the sky. 0

Upon returning home, Fang Lin Kong did not mention his experiences to Wen Yi and the others. If it weren't for the urgent situation, he would have preferred to keep everything under wraps. 0

The shooting club occupied a vast area, featuring not only buildings but also large open spaces. Part of this land served as an outdoor shooting range, while another section remained unused. 0

Since the Chifeng Legion was engaged in less-than-reputable activities and used the shooting club as a cover, they had secretly stockpiled a significant amount of weaponry, including Psycho Weapons. Although the Chifeng Legion's firepower couldn't compare to high-end goods like Vampire's Kiss in terms of quality, it still played a crucial role in battles against monsters. 0

The members of the Chifeng Legion were well-trained. Despite facing strong invading enemies, they managed to hold their ground for a while thanks to their advantageous position. After Fang Lin Kong took to the skies with the Great Freedom Heaven Realm Seven Treasures Banner, he wielded the Liexie Twin Hooks with precision, launching a barrage of Solar Fire Orbs. Not every invader possessed the same strength as the man from earlier; with Fang Lin Kong's assistance, they quickly eliminated over a dozen foes. 0

"Hey you up there! Do you know what happens when you go against us, the International Demon Alliance?" shouted one of the invaders on the ground as he watched his comrades fall one by one, charred by blue electric arcs or reduced to ashes by Solar Fire Orbs. 0

Fang Lin Kong smirked coldly and replied, "Idiot! You’ve already sent people to kill; if I didn’t fight back, would I just hand over my head? Damn it! Monsters like you with such low intelligence are truly embarrassing our entire race!" 0

As he cursed back, Fang Lin Kong swung down hard with his Liexie Twin Hooks. The monster he targeted was surprisingly strong; it raised its arms to block the strike. Although the tremendous force sent it flying, Fang Lin Kong could tell that it hadn't sustained serious injuries. 0

Fang Lin Kong unleashed various magical treasures to sweep through the invaders. While some powerful foes managed to evade serious harm, Fang Lin Kong's artifacts were overwhelmingly powerful. As casualties mounted among the invading monsters, they began to retreat gradually. The brutality of their enemies stirred a killing intent within Fang Lin Kong; however, after a moment's reflection and being cooled by the winds above, his bloodlust began to wane. After all, he wasn't a killing machine forged in life-and-death battles—he still carried some burden in his heart. 0

Fang Lin Kong had no intention of wiping out every last one of them; these monsters from the Chifeng Legion were simply incapable of holding back their enemies. Half an hour into the battle, flames of war began to subside. 0

As Fang Lin Kong retracted his magical treasures, he noticed Wen Yi and others looking at him with strange expressions. Feeling suddenly disheartened, he had no plans to explain anything. The Chifeng Legion had suffered heavy losses this time; over thirty members were dead, along with many ordinary human staff casualties. Although Zhang Yun had made proper arrangements, Fang Lin Kong could see that much of her calm demeanor was forced. 0

Ding Chifeng rushed over upon receiving news of the incident. He nodded slightly in gratitude upon seeing Fang Lin Kong and his companions but said nothing more. He was wise enough to recognize that Fang Lin Kong was now considered one of their own; saying too much would be inappropriate. 0

Soon after, Ding Chifeng made several phone calls and someone claimed responsibility for the attack. To Fang Lin Kong's surprise, this time it wasn't True Flame Sect or Zhou Qingzhe or Zhang Rongying's subordinates behind it but rather those from Duskaya. 0

Although Duskaya’s tone seemed nonchalant and claimed everything was a misunderstanding, an unnamed anger simmered within Fang Lin Kong. He didn't blame Duskaya nor did he want to know what kind of misunderstanding it was about. What infuriated him was how these monsters seemed utterly indifferent towards humanity—losing a few lives appeared insignificant to them. 0

Ding Chifeng handed his phone to Fang Lin Kong, his expression strange as he said, "That woman wants to talk to you. No matter what happens, the Chifeng Legion will never betray our brothers. You can rest assured!" 0

Fang Lin Kong felt the overwhelming presence of Ding Chifeng for the first time. As the leader of the largest monster faction in the Northeast, Ding Chifeng might not match the strength and combat prowess of the experts from the International Demon Alliance. However, his demeanor far surpassed that of new monsters like White Whale Born, Ganesha, and Duskaya. 0

Taking Ding Chifeng's phone, Fang Lin Kong heard Duskaya speaking in fluent Chinese without any strange accent. 0

"This attack was completely a misunderstanding. However, you killed many of my subordinates, and I need an explanation." 0

Fang Lin Kong paused for a moment before slowly asking Duskaya, "Could you repeat what you just said?" 0

Duskaya hesitated slightly before explaining, "I had no prior knowledge of this attack. The personnel sent to this city by the International Demon Alliance headquarters are not all under my command. Among the monsters you killed this time was one named Lagus Ting, an important figure from the Tartarus clan. Therefore, the headquarters hopes that the Chifeng Legion will hand over the culprit." 0

Fang Lin Kong replied calmly, "I was the one who killed him. If you want to settle this with me, feel free to come at me! But I can't guarantee that I won't fight back." After finishing his words, Fang Lin Kong hung up the phone and tossed it back to Ding Chifeng. Without saying a word to anyone, he quietly walked away. 0
