Chapter Five: Ice Thunder Divine Claw
"Well, that's how it is. In short, I'm fine!"
Fang Lin Kong spoke casually, and Ding Qingya was not oblivious to the fact that he wasn't telling the truth. However, as long as Fang Lin Kong was present, she felt satisfied. The few days he had been missing didn't matter much to her; as long as he was unharmed, she wouldn't bother to expose such trivial lies.
The first class of the day was an English test. Fang Lin Kong had always found this foreign language troublesome and was quite displeased with its presence in the core curriculum. He had voted multiple times online to abolish English teaching and was even a core member of an organization opposing the Bird Language Cult. However, just last night, he had memorized all the English words using a spell, and when he received the test paper, he suddenly realized that English was actually quite simple.
The initial questions on phonetics and phrases were practically free points. The subsequent true-or-false questions required barely any reading to complete. For the grammar section, Fang Lin Kong could guess his way through; after all, he could make up for lost points in the reading comprehension section. With all the vocabulary memorized, the final essay was a model of perfection. He finished the test in half an hour and, not daring to be arrogant, lay down on his desk while glancing around at his classmates who were focused on their work.
He noticed Wen Yi frowning deeply, his brows knitted together in concentration. Fang Lin Kong couldn't help but feel amused; a mischievous thought crossed his mind as he formed a Psychic Bullet with a flick of his finger. Of course, he didn't intend to harm his friend, so the Air Hammer he conjured was very weak.
He lightly exhaled a silent air bubble, and the Psychic Bullet accurately struck Wen Yi's forehead. Although it wasn't powerful, Wen Yi was so engrossed in his test that he didn't expect Fang Lin Kong's prank. Suddenly attacked, Wen Yi reacted strongly; his head jerked back, causing his desk and chair to topple over.
The once tense and serious classroom erupted into laughter. Even the English teacher slammed her desk several times to regain control but to no avail. When Wen Yi got up and saw Fang Lin Kong laughing with his shoulders shaking on the desk, it was clear who had played the trick on him.
After shooting a fierce glare at Fang Lin Kong, Wen Yi righted his desk and chair but received a stern reprimand from the English teacher for misbehaving during the exam. Feeling wronged, Wen Yi finally endured until class ended and immediately rushed toward Fang Lin Kong. However, quick-witted Fang Lin Kong slipped out of the classroom first.
"What lovely weather!"
"Lovely my foot!" Wen Yi exclaimed as he was joined by Chen Mingbin and Ma Jingjie, who began chattering away. Although Fang Lin Kong faced questions about his disappearance again, this time he didn't need to worry about it; with a casual tone, he said, "I went deep into the mountains to enhance my skills. Now I've mastered my powers and am invincible! If you stick with me from now on, we will dominate Asia, sweep through Europe, tread upon Africa's Red Sea shores, and conquer America—it's all just around the corner."
Wen Yi and the others clearly showed no interest in his boasting as they pulled him toward the farthest corner of campus. Fang Lin Kong paused for a moment but seeing their serious expressions didn’t ask further questions. Once they were out of sight of others, Ma Jingjie spoke softly: "Something has happened recently. Boss Ding said that internal conflicts within the International Demon Alliance have begun. Our city has already been affected; recently Boss Ding has lost over ten subordinates to assassination attempts. Even Tiger King Zhang Xiaofeng was injured in an ambush. If it weren't for Li Bing arriving in time, Tiger King might have lost his life too. Boss Ding warned us to keep our distance from Chifeng Legion; we’ve all been quite scared lately."
Fang Lin Kong initially brushed it off but soon realized how dire the situation had become.
Zhang Rongying's departure from the International Demon Alliance had deep implications. Modern demons had grown accustomed to this lifestyle; like ordinary humans, they enjoyed the conveniences brought by technology—eating fast food from Western chains or traditional Chinese dishes while drinking Pepsi or beer. They watched American blockbusters and Japanese anime every day and indulged in dramas from Hong Kong and Taiwan. Demons found it much easier than humans to acquire wealth and lived more leisurely lives.
Yuan Qian Kun had long harbored the desire to lead all demons away from this world, but not all demons agreed with him. Some wished to remain in this world, enjoying the beautiful life created by humans.
However, those who held such thoughts were mostly younger demons, lured by modern material civilization. The real power within the International Demon Alliance still rested with the older demons, who were both experienced and aged.
Initially, this division was not apparent, but with advancements in technology and the use of gene enhancement potions, younger demons began to grow stronger. For instance, young demons like White Whale Born started to make their way into the power rankings of the International Demon Alliance. Changes were quietly unfolding.
It wasn't until Zhou Qingzhe and Zhang Rongying's open rebellion that the internal conflicts of the International Demon Alliance became public. The True Flame Sect and the Demon Hunting Team did not necessarily have any fondness for the two demons. However, since the establishment of the International Demon Alliance, although Yuan Qian Kun had remained low-key and made no significant moves, the growing power of the demons had already become a headache for the Demon Hunting Team. The True Flame Sect merely added fuel to the fire while taking advantage of the chaos.
A divided International Demon Alliance was far more preferable for these individuals than a unified super demon organization.
Nonetheless, Yuan Qian Kun's potential influence remained immense. The other two executive Chairmen of the International Demon Alliance had begun counterattacks against Zhang and Zhou. Additionally, Zhou Qingzhe and Zhang Rongying's attempts to intervene in inland China were detected by the Chinese Taoist Sect, which also initiated localized countermeasures.
In Fang Lin Kong's city, several external forces had recently established a presence. The ensuing battles among them began to affect the local Chifeng Legion and even disrupted ordinary people's lives.
Ma Jingjie informed Fang Lin Kong that several recent unsolved murder cases involved humans caught up in battles between demons.
After discussing for a while, the school bell rang. Wen Yi and others only wanted to remind Fang Lin Kong to be cautious in his actions. They did not expect him to become a protector of the city or don his underwear over his clothes like Superman to eradicate all evil in the world.
Feeling that life was tough and realizing how dangerous it could be, Fang Lin Kong was grateful that he had gone to Fengshan Village in search of greater power; it was indeed a wise decision. His day at school passed amidst laughter and lessons.
After school, Wen Yi, Chen Mingbin, and Ma Jingjie dared not linger outside and obediently returned home. Fang Lin Kong, however, was indifferent; he was inherently bold and reckless. After seeing Ding Qingya home, he followed Wang Wuxing's address to find Kunlun's disciples in this area, hoping to further enhance his own strength.
In some hints left by Future Seer, Fang Lin Kong felt an urgent need to continuously improve himself in pursuit of greater power, though he could not quite grasp the specific reasons behind it. Nevertheless, he believed that no matter what happened, he should trust himself above all else—even if he came from the future.
Wang Wuxing's address lay at the easternmost edge of the city. Although this northern city was not ancient, it boasted over a hundred years of history. It had suffered through numerous wars and invasions by foreign tribes, leaving little of value in terms of cultural relics or architecture. Yet there were rare houses that had withstood the test of time.
As Fang Lin Kong took a taxi, he saw countless new buildings rising throughout the city. Upon arriving at an ancient courtyard with blue bricks and yellow tiles, a sense of nostalgia washed over him as he felt transported back to an older era.
Thus, when Fang Lin Kong rudely pushed open the door and walked inside, he was taken aback by a tall blonde beauty approaching him; the stark contrast nearly made his jaw drop to the floor.
A purebred Golden Silk Cat stood there, its large eyes as clear and rippling as a blue lake. With high cheekbones, its facial contours were strikingly defined, resembling the most perfect sculpture. Its golden hair cascaded down to its waist, dazzling like the sun in the sky. Standing over six feet tall, with a prominent chest, curvy hips, and long legs, it possessed a body that could only be described as devilishly attractive.
As Fang Lin Kong caught sight of her, the tall blonde beauty noticed him as well. She flashed a bright smile, revealing her pearly white teeth, and spoke a foreign language that Fang Lin Kong could not understand.
Aside from the English he learned in class, Fang Lin Kong had only watched subtitled pirated Japanese anime, picking up a few phrases here and there—mostly crude expressions. However, he sensed that she was likely speaking Russian; only a Nordic woman could have such a tall and perfect figure.
Just as Fang Lin Kong was dazed by her beauty, the situation suddenly changed. The blonde beauty placed her hand on his shoulder, but it was not a friendly gesture; instead, she unleashed a powerful electric force that struck at his heart.
"Damn it! It's demonic energy. Why have I been so lucky lately to encounter non-humans everywhere?"
Despite being caught off guard, Fang Lin Kong remained calm. Channeling the internal energy of Giant Spirit Transformation, he used the strength of his muscles to rebound the electric force that had attacked him.
The blonde beauty felt her electric energy make contact with the skin of this Chinese boy before it could penetrate even an inch into his body. A surge of fierce power instantly rebounded back at her.
"So you're a master from the Chinese Taoist Sect. I've been looking for you!"
The language that Fang Lin Kong had not understood earlier was actually an open provocation. Realizing that he was a language idiot, the blonde beauty switched to fluent Mandarin.
"I don't even know you; why are you looking for me?"
Fang Lin Kong suddenly exerted force, shaking off her delicate fingers that still clung to his shoulder. With a playful grin, he asked as if completely unaware of her earlier attempt to attack him.
"Such profound Chinese martial arts! I'm looking for the leader of Kunlun. I think you can relay my message! I hope you won't interfere with our actions at the International Demon Alliance."
"No way! You've got the wrong person!"
Just as Fang Lin Kong was about to explain himself, she shook her head seriously, her golden hair swaying in waves.
"If you don't agree, I'll have no choice but to use force. I am Duskaya from the International Demon Alliance. According to Chinese customs, whoever wins gets to dictate terms."
If Fang Lin Kong had enough information, he would know that this beauty from Belarus ranked even higher than White Whale Born in the International Demon Alliance. Duskaya, also known as Ice Thunder Polar Bear, possessed a strange aura infused with frost and dual attributes of ice and lightning. She was incredibly violent and an expert in close combat.
"Westerners really don't understand humor. In China, the custom has always been to let the guests follow the host's lead. How can one be so forceful?"
Fang Lin Kong tilted his head, his eyes darting around. Although he wasn't one to seek out fights, he wasn't exactly kind-hearted either. He couldn't bring himself to be cowardly or to avoid conflict. Moreover, having just achieved Giant Spirit Transformation, he felt a surge of eagerness to test his skills. As for what would happen if he lost, that was a concern he didn't need to dwell on.
Duskaya's soft red lips parted slightly as she seductively said, "The term 'forceful' seems to refer specifically to inappropriate advances towards women in Chinese. Are you suggesting that I should assault you, handsome?"
"Cut it out! You shouldn't make such jokes, beautiful. Just because we’re familiar doesn’t mean you can say whatever you want. I could still report you for harassment," Fang Lin Kong retorted, feeling a bit flustered after being teased right after criticizing her sense of humor. He realized he might be at a disadvantage.
"If you want to fight, then let's fight! I'll crush you into dust!"
Borrowing a classic line from Hong Kong comics to bolster his confidence, Fang Lin Kong struck a pose.
Duskaya waved her delicate arm lightly, and a drop of silver water appeared on her slender, pristine fingers. Just as Fang Lin Kong was taken aback, the drop began to expand until it enveloped both of them. From the outside, a flash of silver light passed by, and they vanished without a trace. However, within the barrier, Fang Lin Kong felt the space around him shift.
They found themselves in an expansive glacier snowfield where the biting cold wind howled past, making Fang Lin Kong—dressed for summer—feel utterly unfortunate and unlucky.
"This is the Battle Barrier, one of our International Demon Alliance's latest products. Fighting within this barrier won't damage the natural environment. It's an eco-friendly product that we are preparing to promote vigorously. Handsome, if you're interested in purchasing it, I know our product manager; I can get you a 20% discount!"
"If we're going to do business, you'd better consider what the customer needs. What I need most right now is a down jacket. If only I could borrow your fur coat!"
Fang Lin Kong thought that even with the discount, he probably couldn't afford the Battle Barrier. He really wanted one of Duskaya's winter fur outfits that she had changed into without him noticing.
Although Fang Lin Kong was at an age where he admired beautiful women and had a budding crush on Ding Qingya, this did not tarnish his innocence. Compared to professional lechers, Fang Lin Kong first noticed a woman's face when looking at them; however, men should ideally start by assessing body shape before moving on to attire and temperament, finally arriving at the face. Duskaya's outfit had shifted from cool summer attire to a sleek white leather outfit; while Fang Lin Kong could see this change clearly, he absolutely did not remember what Duskaya had been wearing moments ago.
However, Duskaya had no intention of fulfilling Fang Lin Kong's reasonable request. The Mystic Transformation of the Nine Heavens did not belong to any current cultivation system. What Fang Lin Kong practiced through Giant Spirit Transformation was strictly unrelated to spiritual energy or true energy—methods that transformed earthly vitality—rather it was an ability long lost since ancient times known as Divine Ability.
The most notable feature of this ability was that all magical power came from within oneself rather than drawing from earthly vitality. Thus, in Duskaya's Spiritual Awareness, she sensed that Fang Lin Kong was very weak and aimed for a quick resolution without any intention of prolonging the battle.
"Release Arctic Ice Electric Claw!"
With a tall and athletic figure clad in tight white leather, Duskaya's movements exuded a beauty that rivaled that of any bodybuilder. However, Fang Lin Kong, who was present, had no time to appreciate it. Since his opponent had not drawn a weapon, Fang Lin Kong felt it inappropriate to reveal his own treasures for combat.
The significance of Giant Spirit Transformation was not merely in enlarging one's physique; of course, the enlargement of a certain male official was merely an added bonus. The true essence of Giant Spirit Transformation lay in how one could manipulate their muscles to achieve maximum resilience.
Confronted with ultra-low temperatures, he formed superconducting ice electric claws. Fang Lin Kong raised his arm defiantly; once the temperature dropped near absolute zero, many materials exhibited peculiar properties, transforming into superconductors that allowed electric currents to pass through without loss.
Arctic Ice Electric Claw was such a profound skill. It concentrated one's electric energy entirely at a single point, combined with an accompanying freezing effect, making its power five times greater than ordinary martial arts techniques. Its destructive capability ranked among the top in the physical combat methods collected by the International Demon Alliance.
Giant Spirit Transformation was also an ancient and extraordinary technique, boasting immense power.
When these two techniques clashed, countless shards of ice and snow erupted. Duskaya's martial skills far surpassed those of Fang Lin Kong, who only understood brute force and lacked finesse. From the start of the battle, Fang Lin Kong found himself on the defensive, enduring numerous heavy blows within just a few seconds.
The protective power of Giant Spirit Transformation was certainly on par with any hard technique of the current era. Duskaya grew increasingly alarmed as she fought. This nameless youth appeared to possess little spiritual energy; why then could he withstand her Arctic Ice Electric Claw for so long? Moreover, after taking a hit, his body showed no signs of damage.
Three years ago, Duskaya had inadvertently achieved great merit for the International Demon Alliance and gained recognition from Yuan Qian Kun, who rewarded her with a secret technique. Thus, she returned to the icy plains of Siberia to devote herself to training. It was only a few days ago that she received word from a messenger of the International Demon Alliance and hurriedly made her way to China.
She stood on Yuan Qian Kun's side.
