Berfant remained silent.
Just a moment ago, he had curiously asked Garen what he would do, to which Garen had responded with a smile: "I would build a tower."
This left Berfant perplexed. At his level, even after being away from the Godeyas Continent for hundreds of years, he still had a precise understanding of the contemporary powers on the continent. He did not deny that there would eventually be special magical towers, perhaps even stepping into the void to eradicate Eternity, but certainly not now.
Was this fellow joking? Berfant stroked his chin, feeling that this joke was not funny at all.
Eternity was not so easily dealt with. Rather than existing in the depths of the void, it was more like a kingdom built upon the hearts of people. To defeat it would mean eliminating the ugliest aspects of human nature. Imagine facing a murderer; who could awaken their sense of truth, goodness, and beauty? Even if one succeeded, there were still countless butchers in the world.
This was a matter of redemption, yet the ones who had erred were the entire world.
Although the rise of the kingdom of Eternity was due to the recklessness of the stars, it was an inevitable outcome, much like two lines that are not parallel will eventually intersect. The first Agu Anan the Great of the old era and the Ancestor of the Abyss from the bloodline had both expended effort for this cause.
The Godeyas Continent had existed for endless ages; who knew how many ancient eras preceded the old times? Had those supreme beings ever taken action for this?
Regardless, since today’s situation had come to pass, it indicated that those eras had all failed.
Just like Agu An, Abyss, the stars, and Berfant, all were powerless in this disastrous Torrent. They struggled with all their might, unwilling to accept this fate, but regrettably, their opponents were too powerful.
Eternity was like that.
And so was human nature.
The figure of Berfant gradually faded away. He had died many years ago; this remnant soul was meant to guard the void passage and open it when necessary. Now that the void passage had been opened, it was time for his fragmented soul to depart.
“Clack clack!”
The attic was filled with countless cracks.
As Berfant dissipated, he gazed into the depths of the void and murmured, "I wish you success."
...
The void was a rather dangerous place.
Even now, Garen felt an intense sense of oppression upon arriving here, as if sharp blades were constantly attacking his will, posing a constant risk of losing himself... Fortunately, with this passage as his guide, Garen needed to do little more than wait quietly.
During this journey through the void, Garen encountered many things.
In the surrounding darkness floated ancient artifacts—some swords, some armor, some rings, some soil, and some mountains... These were items submerged in the river of time, all drawn into the void.
In the distance, Suddenly there were floating continents. These massive landmasses drifted deep within the void, radiating various lights. What Garen had seen earlier in the attic was merely an illusion, but what he saw now was tangible; it was a completely different sensory experience.
These continents varied in size; some were vast and boundless while others resembled islands.
Garen could not recall how long he had been moving through this place; he only knew that at some point, the frequency of the continents appearing had sharply decreased. Yes, he had reached the depths of the void.
At that moment, the distant blue continent suddenly trembled and then exploded violently!
The void was silent. From Garen's perspective, he could only see that continent shatter into countless starlights. Everything within it quickly disintegrated as if it had never existed. Following that, waves of a peculiar gas spread out from it, emanating a nauseating Sinful Power.
It was as if it had just feasted and lingered for a moment in satisfaction before surging toward other continents.
Before long, Garen witnessed the destruction of a second continent.
When the Sinful Power descended, Garen could feel the cries of anguish emanating from the continent, followed by a dimming of its light, as if a young man had suddenly aged into an old man.
Yes, this is the Eternal Power.
These continents were clearly of a lower level within the Void, lacking powerful wills like Agu An or Abyss to obstruct them. They could easily annihilate a realm and draw vast amounts of Eternal Power as sustenance.
No wonder even the stars could not keep pace with Eternity's growth; an existence that directly consumed continents as nourishment was simply beyond what living beings could contend with.
Garen witnessed the destruction of many continents in succession.
Gradually, Garen began to understand the "meaning" of Eternity. Rather than destroying realms, it was more accurate to say that they were self-destructing. Yes, they merely triggered the negative evils hidden within the continents, and then the ugliness of human hearts swelled further and further until the world could no longer bear it... ultimately leading to annihilation.
He did not know how much time had passed, but it had been a long while since Garen had seen any continent.
More precisely, he had not seen a living continent.
He found himself in an absolute realm of darkness, filled with deathly silence, where only the gray remnants of destroyed continents floated; apart from that, there was nothing but extreme blackness.
This meant that Garen had reached the border of Eternity's domain.
...
In the depths of that darkness, faint gasps echoed.
Agu An kept his eyes tightly shut. Two years ago, the encroachment of Eternal Power had robbed him of his hearing, and his eyes had lost their light entirely. His body was constantly oozing blood, but it was blood he had actively caused to flow. Or rather, Eternity was continuously eroding his flesh, so he had to expel the necrotic blood from his body.
However, even the smallest consumption has its limits when there is no replenishment.
Yes, Agu An was nearing death.
He could have held on for a few more years; after all, his power had been passed down through countless generations of emperors. However, not long ago, he made the decision to entrust the remaining core of his power to the Shadow, sending it to deliver to the Heir.
In order to allow the Shadow to cross the void, Agu An had no choice but to give up even more of his strength... In any case, at this moment, the flame of his power had completely extinguished.
He suddenly felt a pang of nostalgia. If he had chosen not to venture out and instead remained in the court as a promising high-ranking knight, perhaps he would not have inherited the will of the emperor, would not have endured so many hardships. He might have died early, but at least he could have lived a stable and peaceful life.
Yet, someone had to take on these responsibilities.
Moreover, Agu An truly enjoyed it. If everything was set in motion when he chose to pursue his dreams, then he was more than willing to bear the burden.
"Clank!" The sound of invisible chains echoed.
Agu An did not turn around; he merely moved his lips. "You've arrived."
A figure carrying a Greatsword approached.
Garen nodded and said, "Yes, I'm here."
Their brief exchange was devoid of any stiffness, as if they were not in the terrifying realm of Eternity but rather like old friends casually reuniting.
Just like when they met on the mountaintop not long ago.
