In the silent corridor, Garen gazed at the figure before him.
He had just said to wait.
This word, in any ordinary context, would not have struck Garen as strange, but here, it felt peculiar. How did he know Garen would come? Indeed, the temporal order of Immortal City was different from that of the Godeyas Continent; they were entirely separate parallel lines. In other words, if Garen had not entered Immortal City, would this "waiting" still hold any significance?
There were only two possible explanations.
First, Master Yi's intended target was not solely Garen; it could also refer to someone more general, such as the one who wields the demon weapon.
Second, this Master Yi might also be a Harbinger. He had witnessed Garen rush into Immortal City, and due to the chaos of the temporal order, he had descended into the past.
Garen suddenly thought of something and asked in a low voice, "Are you from the East?"
"Perhaps," came the reply.
Garen's pupils trembled slightly, and then he heard Master Yi's next words.
"Or perhaps not?" Master Yi waved his hand dismissively; his arm beneath the gray sleeve was thin and frail. "It's been so long that even I can't remember."
Garen fell silent for a moment before drawing his spear from behind him. "Do you recognize this?"
"Of course. This is a demon weapon, symbolizing greed, jealousy, anger, Sin..." Master Yi smiled silently and finally turned around. "Actually, you don't need to continue with these pointless tests. I will wait for you simply because of a friend's request."
Strangely enough, even as Master Yi approached, his face was shrouded in a thin mist, making it impossible to discern his features.
"Friend... who is he?" Garen furrowed his brow.
"It's been too long; I can hardly remember," Master Yi shook his head. As he slowly approached, the distance that Garen had been unable to close despite his earlier sprint was rapidly diminishing.
In the corridor, the rhythmic sound of Master Yi's footsteps echoed.
"He left something for you. Heh, just as he described back in the day, your appearance is quite distinctive. Hmm... like an unyielding boulder; ordinary people don't possess such a presence."
Watching the other man draw closer, Garen let out a quiet sigh within himself.
This Master Yi was not that boy.
Though this assumption had no basis and the possibility was minuscule, when it came to the moment of denial, Garen still felt a pang of disappointment.
Just as he had disregarded all obstacles to force his way into Immortal City, Garen harbored a sense of guilt regarding Han Yun.
If only he hadn't chosen Han Yun at that banquet, if he hadn't allowed the boy to select a spear from the armory, if he could have devoted just a bit more attention to the youth that day...
Would the outcome have been different?
But such thoughts were merely hypothetical.
If it had been someone else, perhaps there would be no guilt at all; after all, Tastandin's actions had been too swift for anyone to anticipate or react in time...
But Garen couldn't dismiss it so easily because he had chosen Han Yun. The boy had entrusted his future to him, and as a mentor, Garen felt it was his responsibility to bear that weight.
Fortunately, there was still some clue to follow. After all, among all the Harbingers, there were hardly any who would leave something behind for Garen.
Just as Garen was lost in thought, Master Yi had already come to a stop.
"This is what he wanted to give you," Master Yi said as he pulled an object from his pocket.
Garen didn't look at it; instead, he frowned and asked, "Where is he?"
"Why not seek the answer yourself? The truth revealed directly is always the most painful," Master Yi shrugged.
Garen's lips curled into a slight smile as he replied, "It seems you haven't forgotten about this matter."
"Of course," Master Yi nodded.
Garen was not someone who enjoyed solving puzzles; that was just like his usual straightforward and blunt approach. He wouldn't get caught up in this object. In comparison, knowing the other person's whereabouts would clearly provide greater assistance.
But in the next moment, Garen's smile froze.
Master Yi paused before saying, "He is already dead."
Garen was momentarily stunned, unable to believe that Master Yi would give such an answer.
After a moment, Garen looked down. If what Master Yi said was true, then the only way Unique could confirm that person's identity now was through the items he left behind.
In Master Yi's hand lay a plain manual with a light brown cover.
This is a diary.
Garen reached out, and just as he was about to take the diary, his palm suddenly lunged forward, aimed directly at Master Yi's wrist!
However, Master Yi seemed to have anticipated this. His body, wrapped in a robe, twisted momentarily and then vanished before Garen's eyes!
"You should focus your energy on this diary. Don't you want to know who left it behind?"
Master Yi's voice came from behind him, and in that instant, Garen had already swung his spear!
"Heh heh, you can't touch me. Compared to you..." Master Yi's words were cut short as he suddenly gasped in surprise. Looking down, he saw the spear's handle firmly pressed against his chest!
"You..." Master Yi was struck with shock, his body trembling inexplicably. He quickly grabbed the spear handle with his frail hands and tried to push it away. However, compared to Garen's physique, Master Yi's strength was simply too weak.
In terms of physicality, unless it was that enigmatic Mok Vand who even Garen couldn't see through, there was no Harbinger who could compare to him.
This was evident from the Selection of the Banquet back then.
Yet even so, Garen couldn't help but feel astonished. He had used Soul Strike for this attack; although all his internal power had been suppressed, this skill specifically targeted the soul and wasn't affected by the peculiarities of Lost Land.
However, under the influence of Soul Strike, Master Yi merely lost control of his movements. Not only did he not fall into a state of soul silence, but he could even extend his hand to resist!
It should be noted that Soul Strike was a skill of the Second Rank; unless the opponent possessed a Third Tier soul, it would be impossible to escape from silence. Just like Tastandin back then, who had also fallen into a state of silence.
Nevertheless, this only made Garen more certain that the Master Yi before him was not Han Yun.
Master Yi trembled all over, as if he were desperately resisting the silence that came from his soul. However, no matter how hard he fought back, he could not return to normal; he could only watch as Garen approached him step by step, finally stopping right in front of him.
"No... no..." Master Yi suddenly spoke in a trembling voice.
Garen slowly raised his arm, reaching out toward Master Yi's face, and Master Yi's resistance grew even more intense.
It was certain that the thin mist swirling in front of Master Yi was not an illusion. Garen's fingers conveyed a soft, gentle sensation, and then Garen lightly waved his hand.
"Whoosh!"
The mist was swiftly parted.
Hidden behind the mist was the most genuine face of Master Yi...
As Garen gazed at this face, his hand suddenly froze, and he became completely still in an instant.
This...
Even Garen couldn't help but take two steps back, revealing an expression of disbelief.
