The figure appeared abruptly, like a flash of crimson lightning, darting right up to Su Ye!
With a "thud," a dagger bristling with barbs plunged into Su Ye's body! Only then did the figure reveal its true face—frosty white cheeks, elongated fangs, and a pair of frenzied, wild eyes!
Su Ye's gaze sharpened, unleashing a terrifying aura that instantly sent the assailant flying back with a loud bang.
The assassin flew backward like a kite with its string cut, crashing into the inner wall of the city with a resounding thud, sending a shower of debris tumbling down. Blood trickled from the corner of his mouth, yet his eyes remained fervent.
In terms of strength, this vampire assassin was merely at level 12. Even though Su Ye was gravely injured, he still couldn't engage her directly; a casual move from her could easily repel him.
But what did that matter? After all, it was Su Ye's body that he had stabbed! The "Queen" of the Solomon Clan! This already brought the assassin immense satisfaction; previously, it would have been impossible for anyone to successfully sneak attack Su Ye, but now he had done it! If that was the case, perhaps killing her wasn't entirely out of reach?
Despite this, the assassin did not continue his assault; instead, he carefully observed Su Ye, searching for an opportunity to strike decisively.
"Acheron’s people?" Su Ye's face turned pale. She did not pull out the dagger embedded in her abdomen, as that would lead to blood loss. Yet this detail revealed just how weak she truly was; even the most basic blood control of her kind was beyond her now.
"I'm sorry; I can't represent the Reimer Clan." The assassin's voice was hoarse, accompanied by coughs from the impact. "Killing you is purely my personal desire; you can understand it as... my hatred for you!"
"All the assassins I've encountered have said the same thing as you." Su Ye shook her head with a sigh, showing no signs of being in dire straits. "But in the end, they all died."
"That's because their words lacked foundation, while I come with hatred." The assassin replied nonchalantly while desperately searching for any weakness in Su Ye. "Forgive me for being blunt; someone like you shouldn't exist in this world."
"You are cold-hearted, world-weary, tyrannical, and ruthless in achieving your goals. While everyone may fear you for it, that fear brings danger when you lose your ability to protect yourself." The assassin said coldly. "And people like you are often unloved."
This conversation seemed absurd because both parties were vampires—universally recognized as dark beings on the continent. Yet at this moment, they spoke about morality as if the assassin represented light while Su Ye was a sinner deserving punishment.
But everyone knew well that there is no absolute good or evil in this world. If one were to distinguish solely by race, then the Celestial Race—currently viewed as paragons of holiness—had once acted as executioners during the Second War, while at that time, vampires had saved countless refugees.
It was nothing but a matter of interests.
Su Ye clearly understood this point better than her opponent, a mocking smile curling at the corners of her mouth.
As the assassin had said, Su Ye's position within the blood clan was quite delicate. Out of fear for her strength, all the clans respected her, yet due to her indifference, no one liked her.
But the problem was, she had never cared about others' opinions.
The assassin seemed to sense something and sneered, "If your last hope is this warrior, then you might be disappointed. He won't save you."
Su Ye glanced at the unmoving Garen and replied lightly, "Are you confident?"
"Of course. I heard your conversation just now. How could someone like him possibly save you?" The assassin shot a cold glance at Garen. He had seen many such blindly loyal individuals on the battlefield who clung to their sense of justice.
"He has a strong sense of justice."
This left the assassin momentarily stunned, and after a while, he responded, "Hmph, then please don't resist any longer!"
"How ignorant..." Su Ye looked at him with pity.
Clearly, this assassin still viewed the concept of "justice" from a very basic perspective. But it was understandable; after all, how could a blood clan assassin who struggled on the bloody battlefield comprehend such things?
If Blood Power was seen as darkness, then Garen would rather die than accept that power. Even if it meant sacrificing himself, he would never extend a helping hand to Su Ye. This indeed represented a form of justice.
Yet it was the most rigid, clichéd, and blind kind.
Conversely... if for some reason one had to walk into the depths of darkness, even if it meant falling into endless shadows, one still had to survive and persist in completing certain tasks... could that not also be considered justice?
The assassin gradually understood Su Ye's meaning but couldn't help but find it absurd. How could a warrior standing in the light possibly choose to step into the depths of darkness? What kind of courage would that require?
"I think I understand what you mean, but frankly, that's impossible." The assassin drew a second dagger from his waist. "And please don't waste any more time; it's time for you to die!"
In just a moment of conversation, Su Ye's injuries worsened, her exquisite face devoid of any color, and her aura grew increasingly weak.
Yes, the opportunity the assassin had been waiting for had finally arrived!
But before he could charge forward, a whoosh echoed through the air as a broad greatsword came crashing toward him, sending the assassin hurtling back into the city wall once more.
Bang! The assassin suddenly looked up, only to witness an unbelievable scene…
Thud thud!
Garen had never felt his heart beat so violently; his blood seemed to boil, filling his vision with crimson! To outsiders, Garen was enveloped in swirling streams of blood-red light, the red mist covering him like liquid and bubbling up around him.
At the moment Su Ye was attacked, Garen felt an overwhelming weakness—not from himself, but from Su Ye… It was as if there was an unseen connection between them; Garen could clearly sense Su Ye's pain and her restless heart.
But more than that, he sensed the approach of death!
It was certain that if Su Ye died here, Garen would likely perish as well. It wasn't that Garen feared death; it was the thought of an unknown disaster—one capable of destroying all of time and space and everything he cherished…
He absolutely could not die here!
"This... is impossible..." The assassin's expression twisted in an instant. From this warrior, he felt a strange sense of oppression—not just in terms of strength but more so from his own blood!
For some reason, he felt an impulse to submit…
At that moment, the warrior surrounded by crimson energy was already approaching with his sword drawn.
When Bai arrived, the battle had already ended.
Before the cold corpse, Garen sat on the steps, his crimson glow having faded, but his face was pale, clearly affected by Su Ye's injuries, which had taken a toll on him as well.
Bai felt a twinge of regret; it seemed Garen's escape had failed. She took out the Healing Scroll she had prepared earlier and cast it three times on Su Ye. After a moment, Su Ye's complexion improved slightly.
"I know what you're worried about, but I don't want a second time," Su Ye said, his eyes filled with exhaustion as he looked at Bai.
Bai shuddered inexplicably and nodded heavily.
"Take him to rest; there are more important matters ahead," Su Ye instructed.
"But..." Bai hesitated, revealing a look of confusion.
"Don't worry," Su Ye said, glancing at the meditating Garen.
"He has already made his choice."
