As the last rays of sunlight faded, the small town welcomed a brand new morning.
When dawn broke, the Southern Suburbs echoed with the sounds of metal clashing, occasionally illuminated by the vibrant glow of magic circles. In those early days, nearby residents often protested against the noise, but in the past half month, such sounds had noticeably diminished. Some residents even began to bring fruits and pastries to show appreciation for the hardworking laborers.
If the Feast Night had impressed the nobles and garnered attention from various factions, then the recent Nightmare Incident had truly won the hearts of the people. As news of the events spread, countless individuals were captivated by Garen. There was hope that once this group of Novices graduated, their children would also become students of Garen and one day become little Novices themselves.
Notably, late the night before last, Baron Yinklang's steward personally visited the town to present a generous gift to Tifet and invited him to stay at Baron Castle. After being coldly rejected by Tifet, the steward sent someone to drag Torexis and Manfro away—yes, literally by their collars!
“Isn't there any special training going on?” Tifet observed the children on the playground with a hint of confusion. Physically, these kids had mostly recovered; it made no sense to still focus their training on running!
“Special training?” Yasthia looked puzzled.
“Isn't there?” Tifet pointed at the playground. “From my observations, their physical abilities and potential far exceed that of normal peers, especially in terms of willpower; they can even outmatch some soldiers.”
Yasthia finally understood and chuckled in disbelief. “So you've been observing this for days?” She smiled gently. “You might be disappointed; they haven't undergone any special training.”
“Just running?” This time it was Tifet who was taken aback.
“Well... there's some Muscle Training,” Yasthia thought for a moment before replying.
“That's it?” Tifet felt as if the world was playing a huge joke on him. During the Nightmare Incident, he had recognized these children's extraordinary qualities, which is why he had patiently observed them for so many days, hoping to see their special training regimen.
In his mind, such special training would not only enhance their physical abilities but also effectively boost their willpower. If applied within the imperial military among elite soldiers, it could undoubtedly create an unstoppable army!
While Muscle Training was indeed commendable, after Tifet's observations, he still felt it fell short and couldn't be classified as special training.
What he never expected was that so-called special training would merely consist of running!
“Oh, it seems there’s something else... but it’s not related to training,” Yasthia suddenly said.
“Spill it!” Tifet's eyes sparkled with curiosity.
"Let's talk about justice... bravery... Fearless... oh, and strength!" Yasthia recounted some of the lessons Garen had taught.
Tifet momentarily lost focus, feeling as if he had seen these words in some introductory textbooks before...
Once the running session concluded, Garen assigned Layton to supervise Muscle Training and made his way to the Watchtower.
Of course, it wasn't really supervision; the Newbies' self-discipline had already reached the goals set by Garen. Even without anyone urging them, they would actively train, so there was no need for concern. Especially after the Nightmare Incident, this group of Novices seemed to have found their direction and were putting in even more effort.
Looking up, one could see the towering Watchtower primarily in silver and black, with most of the Mana Delivery Branch already completed. Twenty Formation Mages borrowed from Baron through Tifet were busy inscribing complex magical arrays.
The magical arrays on the Watchtower were extremely profound; ordinary Formation Mages would struggle not only to inscribe them but even to understand them. Fortunately, Yasthia, a graduate of the Royal Academy, was present along with three Holy Mages. Recently, they had worked through the night to decipher these formations and simplified them countless times before the Formation Mages could barely comprehend them.
The one who truly deciphered the magical arrays was a dog; however, during this process, those intricate blueprints struck his confidence like a Heavy Hammer, shattering it into pieces. Yes, it was that Holy Mage squatting by the base of the tower who had begun to deeply doubt whether he was truly a genius... perhaps it was all a lie...
"The second phase is about to conclude. From the structure on the blueprint, it seems that the third phase won't be too far apart from the Fourth Phase; they can almost proceed simultaneously," Yasthia said as she approached Tifet.
"That's great news," Garen grinned. "Is there any problem?"
"Not really. However, I must seriously remind you that the structure of the Watchtower is very complex. What we have built may not even meet one-tenth of what a true lighthouse requires, so we can't guarantee that there won't be any special circumstances," Yasthia said after some thought.
"Let's finish it first; if we fail, we can try again," Garen nodded in response.
"So, it would be best if you could find a third-party balancing item soon; otherwise, it might delay subsequent tower construction," Yasthia added.
Garen fell silent for a moment. His pure Fighting Spirit combined with Mogao's Undead Staff meant he was only one item short of Yasthia's third-party balancing item. However, extreme power is not so easily found; just look at Mogao's Undead Staff—it involved a lot of luck.
Of course, Garen's Fighting Spirit hadn't yet met the requirements either; according to what had been said earlier, he needed at least level 12 strength.
So there was no rushing it. Garen expressed his determination to search diligently before leaving the Southern Suburbs.
After Garen departed, Tifet suddenly fell into deep thought.
From Yasthia's words, he had long been aware of the balance of power among the three extreme forces.
Moments later, Tifet called the dog over.
"Go check on the big shots nearby."
"Big shots?" The dog was momentarily confused.
"Like Tiatna, Deep Blue Lion, Tyrant... After the Second Continental War, many powerful figures chose to go into hiding, concealing themselves in various corners of the continent. Of course, I believe with the Empire's intelligence System, it shouldn't be difficult to find them," Tifet explained.
Only then did the dog understand, looking at Tifet with a strange expression.
Tifet also realized that this behavior seemed somewhat out of character for him and added, "Well... as long as we find them, what we have to pay is none of our concern."
Seeing Tifet, known in the capital as the "Silent Left Knight," actually explaining this to him made the dog's strange expression turn to one of fear.
"Get lost!" Tifet snapped.
Only then did the dog feel relieved... It seemed this guy was indeed Tifet without a doubt...
After watching the dog walk away, Yasthia finally voiced her inner doubts.
"Do you want to help him?"
Tifet snorted coldly. "I just hope you come back with me soon."
"Alright, it seems you really do want to help him..." Yasthia smiled knowingly. "This is the Tifet I know!"
"Is there something wrong with your ears..." Tifet's eyes twitched slightly.
"Isn't there?"
Yasthia recalled the moment she first met Tifet: "You have already decided to stay."
Hadn't he?
Tifet was about to retort but found himself at a loss for words.
At first, he had intended to leave immediately after the Nightmare Incident. However, upon witnessing Yasthia's concern for the Newbies, Tifet decided to stay for another two days. He then observed the training sessions of the Newbies and listened to Garen's courage...
Before he knew it, a considerable amount of time had passed.
...
...
Garen walked down Roland Street, not heading home but rather to visit Talina.
During the Nightmare Incident, Garen discovered traces of poison in Talina. After discussing it with Edward, he called in a healer from the treatment department to take a look. It turned out that this poison had lain dormant in Talina's body for many years. Initially, it had settled in her eyes, but after she lost her sight, it sank deeper and spread throughout her body.
She had traded her light for a deadly toxin.
Although Garen and Talina were not very familiar with each other, he held great admiration for this girl. A person who truly loves life remains beautiful no matter what happens.
As Garen turned into an alley, he saw Sharg leaning against the wall next to a wooden door.
