“Three-Eyed Demon Python! It... it has awakened!”
Fear flickered in Maple's eyes. Although he knew that this creature had degenerated, the Three-Eyed Demon Python was still a high-level magical beast of First Level. As that eighth-level aura radiated from it, a deep sense of helplessness welled up within him.
The Three-Eyed Demon Python scanned the group of intruders with its cold gaze, swallowing the remaining half of Simon's body before letting out a sharp roar and suddenly lunging at the nearest target, Leilin!
Feeling the overwhelming pressure, Leilin froze in place, realizing she was about to be devoured by the blood-soaked jaws!
At that moment, a golden beam shot through the air as Garen appeared in front of Leilin. With a resounding clash, Stormblade scraped against the python's fangs, barely managing to block the attack.
“Run!” Garen urged in a low voice.
Finally snapping back to reality, Leilin screamed and fled toward Maple. However, just as she escaped, there was a dull thud as Garen was sent flying over twenty meters by the python's force, his body crashing into the stone wall!
At that moment, a whoosh echoed as Sharg leaped onto the python's head. Crouching low, he drew his dagger and decisively plunged it into the gap between its scales. With a fierce twist, he tore away a large chunk of mixed flesh and scales!
The massive body of the Three-Eyed Demon Python trembled slightly as it let out an enraged roar. It immediately abandoned Garen and charged toward the flung-away Sharg!
With a rustling sound of falling stone debris, Garen emerged from the wall, not even bothering to wipe away the blood at the corner of his mouth before transforming into a golden beam once more and lunging at the python!
“What are you waiting for?!” Garen shouted in a deep voice.
His thunderous tone snapped Maple and Leilin back to their senses, prompting them to hurriedly assume fighting stances.
In an instant, Garen was sent flying by the python's massive tail.
He glanced at Sharg, who was skillfully maneuvering around the python with agility. A grave expression crossed his face. Just moments ago, after using Fatal Strike, he received a notification from the Holy War System: “The gap between host and target is too great; silence effect cannot be triggered!”
This meant that dragging down this creature with Fatal Strike was impossible. The only way forward was to confront it head-on and find weaknesses amidst the fierce battle. However... this Three-Eyed Demon Python had an incredibly tough body; ordinary physical attacks were nearly ineffective.
Even Maple's sixth-level Fighting Spirit crossbow bolts could only pierce its scales without inflicting any substantial damage.
“Maple! Is there anything in the diary about its weaknesses?” Garen leaned on Stormblade, rising to his feet and charging once more.
He unleashed a barrage of Fighting Spirit crossbow bolts, causing Maple's breath to become erratic. Suddenly, he recalled something. “Yes, weaknesses… There is! The essence of the Three-Eyed Demon Python is stored in its third eye! If we destroy it, it will enter a state of weakness!”
“Bang!” Moments later, Garen was thrown back again, his black coat torn, blood spreading from his chest.
He focused his gaze and saw that atop the massive head was a deep green vertical eye, emitting a faint glow, symmetrically aligned with the two dark golden vertical pupils below, forming a triangular shape!
“Attack its back head with your crossbow bolts! We must restrict its movements!” Garen shouted sternly. “Leilin! Target its third eye! Burn it out!”
Compared to physical attacks, Leilin's magic could clearly inflict greater and more effective damage.
Upon hearing Garen's command, Maple and Leilin immediately sprang into action. One fired crossbow bolts in rapid succession at the same spot to hinder the demon python's evasion, while the other swiftly launched fireballs aimed at that deep green pupil!
Garen took a deep breath as three rune shields swirled around him. He then unleashed Fatal Strike again, working in tandem with Sharg to control the demon python.
Although he couldn't trigger a silence effect, the double damage from Fatal Strike was still incredibly useful. Whenever Sharg was unable to hold up against the pressure, Garen would use this move to inflict pain on the demon python, drawing its main firepower. When things became overwhelming for him, Sharg would step in to share the burden in his own way!
“Keep the crossbow bolts concentrated in one area!”
“Time your fireball release perfectly!”
“Force it inward and shrink its movement range!”
Under Garen's command, dazzling bursts of firelight flickered throughout the cave alongside the whistling sound of dense crossbow bolts. As the team gradually found their rhythm, the Three-Eyed Demon Python was pushed into a corner, its black scales splattered with blood.
Its dark golden vertical pupils were filled with rage; to it, those two nearby seemed pitifully weak and could be devoured in one bite! Yet due to these two melee fighters before it, it repeatedly failed to charge and was even forced back! Especially that guy wielding the Greatsword—his physical defense was almost outrageously formidable!
During the battle, Garen rarely directed Sharg. Whether in combat experience or sensitivity to openings, Sharg displayed considerable talent, and their cooperation was seamless.
A series of fireballs were launched continuously. In just twenty minutes, Leilin unleashed thirty-four fireballs, causing that deep green eye to turn crimson while its surrounding scales charred black!
At that moment, Leilin suddenly collapsed to the ground, her face pale as she said, "I've exhausted my magic..."
Garen felt a slight heaviness in his heart.
Thanks to their efforts, the Three-Eyed Demon Python was already on the brink of defeat. To run out of magic at such a critical time was undoubtedly the worst news!
"How long will it take to recover your magic?" Garen immediately asked.
"At least two hours!" Leilin bit her lip tightly.
Due to her physical condition, most mages derived their power from meditation, which was, unfortunately, the most time-consuming method of cultivation.
Garen's expression grew increasingly grave.
Just then, Leilin suddenly thought of something and exclaimed, "I have a magic scroll! It will still take some time, but it's much faster than meditating!"
"How long?"
"Twenty minutes!"
"Alright, we'll do our best to hold it off!" Garen didn't look at Leilin as he grabbed his Greatsword and charged toward the demon python once more.
Leilin nodded heavily and quickly ran to a distant corner, retrieving an ancient yellow parchment scroll and closing her eyes.
With a sharp sound, Stormblade pierced into the back of the demon python, spilling a large amount of flesh and blood. Garen was knocked back by the full force of the python's attack. At that moment, Sharg immediately entered the battlefield, using his dagger to agitate the creature's wounds!
In fact, it wasn't just Leilin; even Garen's own Fighting Spirit was nearly depleted.
In just twenty minutes, he had unleashed Fatal Strike eleven times and Courage three times. If it weren't for the lingering effects of that Fighting Potion, Garen might not have fared much better than Leilin.
Without the disruption of Fireball spells, the long-held resentment of the Three-Eyed Demon Python erupted in an instant as it fought back fiercely!
"Hiss!"
The massive head suddenly lifted, spewing forth a torrent of green mist that corroded the surrounding rocks, causing them to emit white smoke. Maple, the target of this toxic gas, collapsed to the ground as if all strength had been drained from her body.
As Garen came into contact with the poisonous gas, three rune shields vibrated violently, and a subtle feeling of paralysis swept through him.
It was evident that this was a special skill of the Three-Eyed Demon Python, capable of inducing a brief paralysis that rendered its victims immobile. However, filtered through the rune shields, the paralyzing effect was minimal on Garen and did not have much impact.
At that moment, a muffled groan suddenly echoed from ahead.
Sharg's body gradually slumped, and his two daggers fell to the ground. The Three-Eyed Demon Python seized the opportunity to coil around Sharg, and then... a crisp cracking sound rang out!
"Sharg!"
Garen shouted angrily, his body transforming into a golden beam as he rushed to the front of the demon python. He thrust his sword down fiercely, driving it into the creature's skull, and foul blood sprayed out!
The demon python roared in fury, thrashing its head wildly. Stormblade was sent flying, while Garen pressed forward, wrapping his arms around the python's body as remnants of Fighting Spirit surged forth from within him!
Enveloped in golden light, the python's form began to distort under Garen's grip, causing its waist to loosen involuntarily.
The cursed mask fell away.
Then...
A hand covered in black fur suddenly reached out! Sharp black claws sank into the flesh of the python!
A towering figure over two meters tall rose from within!
"Rage..."
Nearby, Maple looked on in shock. "A werewolf?!"
With a series of cracking sounds, Sharg's body continued to grow. His shirt tore apart inch by inch as steel-like black fur sprouted wildly. His cheeks protruded forward, revealing a row of gleaming fangs!
"Hiss!" The Three-Eyed Demon Python was enraged by the excruciating pain and lunged forward with its massive head.
Sharg reached out and pushed Garen aside, his dark silver eyes filled with coldness. He extended his long arms, gripping the upper and lower jaws of the massive serpent, and pulled them apart!
The corners of the demon python's mouth were torn, blood gushing out.
In that moment, the Three-Eyed Demon Python finally felt fear, its tail thrashing wildly.
“Eyes!” Garen suddenly shouted.
Sharg released his grip and swiftly sank his claws into the python's scales, climbing up its body like a rock climber. Finally, he reached that deep green eye. “Awooo!” he howled in fury, then his left hand struck down like lightning.
With a sharp sound, it pierced through the python's third eye!
The massive form of the python swayed, its vertical pupils gradually losing focus until it collapsed with a loud thud, its fierce head landing in front of Garen, kicking up a cloud of dust.
“To be honest, I didn’t want you to know this.”
Sharg jumped down from the python's head, his black fur and taut muscles visibly regressing back to their original state.
Garen handed over a torn piece of cloth.
“I’ll leave the rest to you.” Sharg draped the black cloth over himself and moved to a corner to rest.
From Sharg’s eyes, Garen could see deep exhaustion; clearly, transforming into a werewolf was a tremendous burden for him.
Garen plunged Stormblade into the python's head and twisted it forcefully. The serpent’s body trembled once more before finally going limp.
At that moment, Stormblade seemed to hit something hard.
Suddenly realizing something, Garen crouched down and pried open the python's massive jaws. Soon enough, he found a section of emerald-colored fang at the edge.
As he pulled out the fang, Garen immediately felt a surge of Fighting Spirit radiating from it, accompanied by a toxic energy that made his palm tingle.
Sharg also cast a glance over, clearly suspecting that this was the Venomfang Blade. However, he seemed uninterested, merely curling his lip.
“Venomfang Blade?!”
At that moment, Maple exclaimed, and as the poison gas dissipated, he gradually regained his mobility and approached Garen.
Maple looked at the blade with eager anticipation and asked, “Can… can I touch it?”
Garen smiled and handed over the Venomfang Blade.
“So this is the power of a Second Rank… it’s truly amazing!”
Maple carefully cradled it in his hands, marveling at its beauty.
His expression turned serious as he said, “Sir Garen, don’t you think so?”
In the next instant, the Venomfang Blade plunged into Garen's chest…
Blood flowed from his wound like a river!
