Jinjin unleashed a powerful blast that sent Miss Fortune flying out of the water. The impact of Miss Fortune's deadly attack left Jinjin gasping, her body collapsing under the strain. The most critical part was that they were both enhanced fighters; even when severely injured, they could still inflict tremendous damage using their weapons.
The wind had already halted the warship, and Cui Ming had run far enough away, desperately searching for the brakes. Having never driven a vehicle before, but having seen pigs walk, he knew that a car had four essential components: steering wheel, clutch, accelerator, and brakes. The yacht seemed to lack a clutch, but what about the brakes?
As the yacht drifted further away, not counting on Cui Ming to return, Wind Wall stood between the two women and shouted, "Stop!" Looking back at them, both floated in the sea like dead fish. A chill ran through Wind. What would happen if one of them died? Unless he silenced everyone on the warship?
Seeing that Miss Fortune still showed signs of life as she struggled in the water, he lunged towards Jinjin, kissing her—no, grabbing her for mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. However, due to his life experiences being more about kissing than performing CPR, his technique was somewhat muddled. Jinjin bit down on his lip in response, causing him to jerk back in pain as he stood up in the water, gasping for air. "I saved one."
He turned to Miss Fortune, only to find her staring silently at him, her dual pistols raised at an angle. Wind wisely approached her side and asked, "Are you okay?"
"Do you think I'm okay?" Miss Fortune retorted breathlessly.
Clearly not okay; both were heavily injured after a fierce twenty-second battle. Moreover, the backlash from Force made it difficult for them to enter a meditative state for healing. Especially out here in the ocean, the waves crashing against them would disrupt any weak attempts at meditation. Looking around, he noticed the yacht had drifted far away while the warship was now approaching.
Miss Fortune was managing to spread her Force across the surface of the water and barely entered a meditative state for healing. However, Jinjin was sinking into the depths. Without control over her Force, it dissipated into gas without any waterproofing capability. Wind immediately grabbed hold of Jinjin, lifting her up and running toward the warship. Then he felt something was off. In this position holding a girl, shouldn't he feel something pressing against him? His heart raced as he turned Jinjin around; no luck—still flat as ever. He pulled back her hair to find her face and confirmed it was indeed Jinjin. He held onto her tightly and jumped onto the warship. Just then, Jinjin, affected by the backlash from Force, lost consciousness and vomited blood as soon as she hit the deck.
Panic surged through him; this woman was going to die! This was a direct breach of her protective Force, shattering her insides—no divine intervention could save her now. "Damn it, Cui Ming, come back and help me figure this out! Should we kill everyone or just run?" Turning around, he finally spotted Cui Ming. He approached across the water…
Upon landing, Cui Ming first scooped up Miss Fortune. "What are you doing? She's our ally!" He thought angrily. While Miss Fortune could meditate, she would lose her ability to float on the water while doing so. With one arm holding Miss Fortune, he slipped a Doran Ring onto her index finger with his other hand. The ring wasn't particularly valuable but possessed the ability to condense Force, making it usable by anyone without needing to experiment with it first. Then he cradled Miss Fortune in both arms and leaped onto the warship.
Before he could question anything further, Wind urgently exclaimed, "She's going to die!"
Rushing over to check on them, Cui Ming discovered that Jinjin's Force had dissipated within her body and was now erratically swirling around—a painful backlash indeed. They needed to enter a condensing state first; only then could they control some of their Force before attempting meditation again. Observing Jinjin's pupils closely for signs of breathing, he slapped her hard across the face—no reaction. Then he pinched her forearm with his thumb and index finger and twisted it until she jolted awake; while internal pain from the backlash was severe, external pain was tangible.
"Cui Ming" commanded firmly, "Concentrate."
The condensing state wasn't ideal for healing but was indeed dangerous because any external disturbance could disrupt it completely. For instance, if a large wave rocked the warship at that moment, it would intensify the backlash from her powers and potentially lead to self-destruction—resulting in death by explosion from within. When someone entered this state for healing, they often became oblivious to changes in their surroundings—like someone quietly balancing a bowl of water; any deviation would cause it to spill everywhere.
Cui Ming watched as Jinjin entered a meditative state, only then noticing the dozen soldiers outside holding their weapons. He flipped his hand to reveal his identification. "Force Alliance, please step back. They are healing and cannot be disturbed. Who is the captain?"
An Old Officer lowered his hand, signaling the soldiers to hold their positions, recognizing that these individuals were indeed practitioners. He also knew Cui Ming; the television was airing footage of the first Competition Match.
Cui Ming approached and said, "They cannot be disturbed for half an hour. Please have your men step back and do not start the boat."
The Old Officer nodded and instructed others to comply, then turned to Cui Ming and said, "She is the Elder's daughter."
Oh? This violent criminal Jinjin is actually the Elder's daughter? How rebellious... No wonder Jinjin had been getting away with everything; it turned out she had someone backing her. In this day and age, those who dare to act recklessly often have support behind them. Just look at the Journey to the West; monsters with backing survive, while those without are defeated by the monkey. Look at Guanyin needing a helper; the Black Wind Monster stepped in to fill that role. The needs of leadership are the needs of the people, and even a small official like Bima Wen holds some power.
However, Cui Ming didn’t quite understand why Miss Fortune seemed to regard Jinjin as an enemy. It didn’t make sense. Looking at Jinjin—who had neither curves nor a figure—there was no comparison to be made. Jealousy surely couldn’t be the reason. What other reason could there be for conflict between women besides jealousy? Who knows?
Feng stood beside Cui Ming, glancing at the two women on either side. "Be careful; I suspect once they’re ready, they’ll want to fight. Do they have a grudge?"
Cui Ming called out, "Captain, could you send someone to bring our yacht back?" It was still drifting at sea. Cui Ming finally figured out that if they just released the throttle, the boat would gradually come to a stop without needing to find the brakes.
"Do you have hot tea?" Feng Dao asked. After performing artificial respiration, he had to disperse some of his Force energy; his body was getting cold from taking in water...
The Old Officer looked at them, wondering if they realized they were stealing and being pursued by police. Never mind; it was best not to provoke Force Alliance members. This incident would definitely be reported to Force Alliance; they had their own way of handling things. Members of Force Alliance were like diplomats with immunity; any issues could be addressed later. The captain waved for someone to chase after the boat and prepare hot tea.
...
Sipping hot tea and snacking, Miss Fortune finally opened her eyes. As soon as she did, she reached for her gun, prompting Feng to quickly step in front of her body to catch the bullet. Cui Ming was shocked and stood up. " Miss Fortune, what are you doing?" Why such desperation?
"Get away." Miss Fortune stood up with dual guns in hand, striding toward Jinjin, who was still in a meditative state, looking quite furious.
Cui Ming stepped forward to block her path. "What’s going on? You need to explain first; even if you’re being unreasonable, we will definitely support you."
Miss Fortune's face darkened with rage. "She killed my mother."
This... this question... how should I put it? Jinjin is a criminal with a penchant for destruction, and she plays recklessly. She doesn't target ordinary people nor does she intentionally shoot them. However, her destructive behavior often leads to accidents. Jinjin has taken many lives. This is why Cui Ming was mocking the Journey to the West in his heart.
“ Miss Fortune, it's all in the past. As a hunter, you should abide by the alliance's rules. Jinjin has been pardoned, and since joining the alliance, she hasn't committed any more crimes.”
The speaker was Vlad, who had arrived ten minutes earlier and had been standing nearby. Vlad is the bodyguard of an Elder, especially since some recent events in the Dawn Empire, particularly the assassination of an Elder. Therefore, whenever an Elder leaves the country, a practitioner is dispatched for protection, and Jinjin's father is one of the most influential Elders. When Jinjin went after the yacht, Vlad didn't stop her but soon realized that local practitioners had appeared, one of whom was Miss Fortune. Knowing the situation, Vlad immediately pursued her, but unfortunately, he lacked military resources and couldn't quickly mobilize a warship. He commandeered a speedboat to follow her, but after it capsized, he continued on foot using Force.
Vlad only knew that Miss Fortune was particularly targeting Jinjin but had never heard the reason behind it. Now hearing Miss Fortune speak, he realized that their hatred was difficult to resolve.
Miss Fortune said coldly, “I don't care about your alliance rules; you all need to step aside.”
“That’s not possible, Miss Fortune,” Vlad replied.
“Not possible? Twelve lives lost, including my mother—how can that be impossible?” Miss Fortune shouted angrily. “After years of wrongdoing and rampaging across the Western Continent, did your Ding Family just vanish? Now you tell me it’s impossible? Did your Ding Family say it was impossible when she was killing people? Did you ever try to stop her?”
Vlad didn’t know how to respond. By law and morality, Jinjin would certainly face execution. However, as a practitioner, she was subject to different rules. Deep down, Vlad understood right from wrong; it was no easy feat for Jinjin to become a wanted criminal. The Ding, Cao, and Liu families had ignored her actions because someone had given them a heads-up beforehand. Later on, a senior police officer who knew about practitioners contacted the alliance's liaison in the Western Continent, which led to the alliance's intervention and Jinjin becoming a wanted criminal. This officer's subordinate was involved in capturing a bank robber when Jinjin treated them like NPCs in a game and shot out their tires just to see their cars flip over, resulting in the deaths of four police officers.
The alliance sent hunters to capture Jinjin but faced some obstacles. At that time, Jinjin committed another crime; her bartender friend at a bar she frequented died after being forcefully stopped by police while driving under the influence. She transported his body in a heavy truck and wreaked havoc on traffic to challenge the police, leading to twelve civilian deaths. Afterward, she vanished without a trace; Wei Wei and another hunter couldn't find her at all. Wei Wei suspected that practitioners were deliberately sheltering her but lacked evidence. According to alliance rules, practitioners participating in the Assessment Match could temporarily be pardoned; once they became members of the alliance, their previous crimes would be absolved as long as they adhered to alliance regulations afterward. Jinjin passed the assessment and cleared her name.
Vlad didn't like Jinjin but didn't want to touch this sensitive topic either. He also knew that Miss Fortune was very determined in pursuing Jinjin and that her emotions were running high. However, he truly hadn't expected such personal enmity between them.
To be continued...
