"Understood." Seeing your attitude, I already know you don't take this seriously, so why bother saying more?
Wandering sighed, feeling somewhat fatigued. "You all can head back now. Beiyue, stay behind. I'll rest for a bit while you take notes with Jack. We'll discuss the witch matter later." He regretted bringing it up.
The next morning, Ding Ze, Mi Xiaonan, and Li Qing were having breakfast on the balcony when Cui Ming, who had been meditating, opened his eyes. A Poker card flew toward Ding Ze. Ding Ze felt a sharp pain in his arm and looked down to see blood oozing from a small cut. He glanced at the Poker card embedded in the table and weakly said, "Cui Ming, that hurts." Even superficial wounds are still injuries—they bleed and hurt. However, the wound made by this Poker card wasn't deep enough; his Force would heal it quickly. Still, the value of the treasure was evident. Normally, Cui Ming would need to strike a specific spot on his opponent repeatedly to tear through their Force protection and prevent them from quickly healing until they were injured at their core. But now, although the flying card hadn't breached Ding Ze's protective Force, it had cut through his skin and caused bleeding. This was the effect of Light Whisper.
Cui Ming raised his hand apologetically. Just then, his phone rang. He reached for it and answered, "Hello."
Beiyue was on the line. "I need to stay here a few more days..." Beiyue didn't know how to phrase it—should Cui Ming wait for him to finish before heading to Witch Island or meet up somewhere else? In their team, Cui Ming handled route arrangements while Beiyue managed his own plans during the hunter assessment.
Cui Ming replied, "You focus on your work; there's no rush. Mi Big Head is in Shen Island City helping me with the Special Flying Card. We're also planning to attend Liu Meier's Charity Banquet together. Let's tentatively meet at eight in the morning at the dock in Shen Island City seven days from now. After hanging up, Cui Ming walked back to the balcony and grabbed a piece of bread. Mi Xiaonan looked glum and said, "I'm the only one without an invitation."
Cui Ming patted Mi Xiaonan's head gently. "Don't worry; you're going to supervise in Shen Island City. Kids shouldn't get involved in these matters."
Mi Xiaonan huffed in dissatisfaction but nodded in acknowledgment.
Cui Ming sat down as Li Qing said, "The Fire Cultist has left Hero City and encountered the Liu Family in Hero Town. The Liu Family invited him to tomorrow's Charity Banquet on behalf of Liu Meier. The Leopard Woman has agreed to attend. We will see her at the banquet tomorrow."
Cui Ming remarked, "If I'm not mistaken, the Leopard Woman and Liu Meier hit it off right away—they've become good sisters."
Ding Ze added, "Although the Fire Cult didn't achieve its goal, everyone can see their strength clearly. I think their next step will be to get closer to the Ding and Ye families. It's a pity that only one of them—the Leopard Woman—looks human; this public relations effort will require her personal involvement. After lunch, Mi Xiaonan headed to Shen Island City while the other three went to Hero Town for the charity gala reception. Although there was still a day left until the event, Liu Meier had arranged accommodations for everyone since they had traveled from afar. The lodging was at an estate that used to be the Alliance Headquarters—a grand and impressive place.
Upon arrival, staff greeted them and invited everyone onto a tour bus heading to their accommodations. Li Qing and his companions were assigned a charming little villa with two attendants and a butler waiting for them. However, they weren't accustomed to such service and politely declined assistance in favor of handling things themselves.
The estate was bustling with activity; the Ye Family was present while only Vlad from the Ding Family remained behind. The Little Wave Team had all been invited as well—this puzzled Cui Ming since Feng had mentioned that they weren't invited at all. Unbeknownst to him, Liu Meier had sent out five invitations but Feng lost Mi Xiaonan's and Beiyue's due to some details; since it didn't concern him directly, he simply chose not to mention it. So when Liu Family inquired about Beiyue and Mi Xiaonan's absence during their reception greeting, Cui Ming and his companions were taken aback—weren't they supposed to have not been invited?
Feng: "What's wrong? Are you biting me?"
The estate was hosting an art exhibition featuring works from renowned artists over the past twenty years—all living artists whose paintings were of considerable value but priced exorbitantly here; a piece worth one hundred thousand could sell for a million at this event. Of course, all proceeds were managed by Liu Mei'er’s charity fund; Cui Ming and his friends trusted Liu Mei'er in this regard since she wouldn't stoop so low as to siphon money from donations.
There were twenty-three guests at the estate; in one of the side halls of the exhibition building, Cui Ming encountered Yellen and Ye Xin. They knew nothing about art but felt compelled to buy a few pieces since they were attending. How many pieces? They bought according to headcount—Ye Wen purchased one for three million while others bought theirs for around one million each.
Upon seeing Cui Ming, Yellen and Ye Xin stopped and turned around to greet him with handshakes and pleasantries exchanged. Cui Ming remarked, "They are resting; I have no money in my pocket so they'll have to cover it while I run errands."
"Ha ha." The two shared a light laugh and chatted for a bit before Ye Xin walked aside to admire an abstract painting she didn't quite understand, while Yellen and Cui Ming continued on together. The exhibition hall was not crowded, and the space was vast. Yellen glanced around and said, "Cui Ming, help me think of a way."
"What do you mean?"
"Last night... my fourth brother didn't come back until four in the morning."
Cui Ming asked, "Was it Ye Wen and Liu Meier?"
"I'm not sure, but my fourth brother's Earth Dragon Tooth necklace is missing." The Earth Dragon Tooth came from the Abyss Dragon, a creature that typically lived in the wilds of the Western Continent. It had wings but couldn't fly, with tough skin and thick flesh, making it a relatively powerful being. Ye Wen had been honing his skills in the wilderness when he encountered an Earth Dragon. They fought fiercely for three hours, and Ye Wen ultimately killed the dragon, turning its tooth into a necklace.
Cui Ming asked, "Missing as in...?"
"It means he gave it away."
Damn, that was a token of affection. Cui Ming asked, "Why can't you hint to Ye Wen that Liu Meier has connections?"
Yellen shook his head. "It's not possible, Cui Ming. There’s no evidence. If I tell my fourth brother, he would definitely confront Liu Meier directly.
