Eva introduced her abilities and sensed the presence of Dark Magic, realizing that the Void Power brought by the Void Creature was an upgraded version of Dark Magic. She followed it here, but her extensive experience in the martial world made her stop abruptly. She could clearly feel that this was a deliberate attempt to lure her deeper. She had already crossed into dangerous territory; going further would sever her connection with Mi Xiaobo. Even now, it took hours to reach Mi Xiaobo. More importantly, facing Zhir was a mentally exhausting task filled with tension and pressure. Cui Ming replied, "Some things are forced out."
Under the moonlight, Eva stared at a Giant Bug before her. The creature was not particularly large, about the size of a human. However, its appearance resembled that of a scorpion—purple in color, with a long neck and a large head, its limbs propped on the ground as it fixed its gaze on Eva, enveloped in Void Energy. A large mouth drooled menacingly, its eyes reflecting an evil and ruthless demeanor.
This was what Eva encountered while following the trap.
With a powerful thrust of its forelimbs, the bug raised its head and let out a sharp roar. A chill from the depths of her soul surged within Eva's heart as she concentrated her Force as a practitioner. It exploded outward like a balloon bursting, scattering Force in all directions. Startled, Eva immediately embraced her pain and projected an illusion toward the Giant Bug, entering an invisible state. Just as she became invisible, the ground trembled violently as a massive energy surged from underground to attack this area. Eva absorbed all that energy like a lightning rod, being thrown over ten meters into the air, her body uncontrollable. As she fell back down, a spiked whip shot out from the ground, spinning and wrapping around Eva.
With no way to evade it, Eva was struck repeatedly without any chance to retaliate and was tightly bound by the spiked whip. Although it was still a whip, it didn't inflict pain; instead, it felt soft and sapped her strength away. With a tug of the whip, Eva's body flew toward the Giant Bug, which opened its massive jaws to welcome its prey.
However, Eva was no weakling; she darkened herself and entered a frenzied state. Blood tears streamed from her eyes as she found that despite being pulled by the spiked whip, she could not be moved; black Force burned within her body like fire. The Giant Bug appeared startled and took two steps back in caution. With a fierce roar, Eva's black Force surged even more intensely before she turned and ran at incredible speed.
This technique was called Dark Frenzy by Eva; its appearance was quite terrifying. It seemed to multiply her Force significantly while darkening it. In reality, this technique had two main functions: breaking free from restraints or immobilization effects and rapidly burning Force for maximum speed enhancement. Of course, there was also a third function: intimidation. Being invisible was Eva's clever tactic against enemies; this technique was her ultimate life-saving move.
The moment the Giant Bug realized it had been deceived, it immediately gave chase. Although its speed was much slower than Eva's, it noticed that she was burning her Force and wouldn't be able to maintain it for long. At the same time, countless small bugs emerged from the sand, rushing towards Eva. This Giant Bug was indeed intelligent, and quite clever; it did not reveal its hidden minions while in a position of advantage.
One by one, the small bugs collided with Eva, exploding against the thin layer of Force surrounding her body. Each explosion caused her to stumble and roll forward before getting back on her feet. Soon, Eva automatically entered a state of desperation as the Giant Bug closed in. "Cui Ming, you bastard! If you don't make your move soon, I'll turn around and deal with you!" she shouted.
"Coming!" Cui Ming replied from the side. He had been running in a triangular formation with Eva and the Giant Bug, maintaining some distance. Just as he prepared to close in, he heard Eva's curse and quickly called out to her. Eva moved closer to Cui Ming's position while the Giant Bug pursued them. Cui Ming held a Red Card that seemed to materialize from nowhere; with a flick of his fingers, it transformed into three cards: one black, one red, and one yellow. The Yellow Card immobilized the target, the Red Card enhanced his own abilities, and the Black Card was sent flying—Blooming on the Tree.
Blooming on the Tree could be seen as a bluff or a diversion, creating false images to confuse the enemy. In Cui Ming's hands, Blooming on the Tree manifested four copies of himself, all performing identical actions. In an instant, eight flying cards shot out, their power reaching its peak; even paper cards could unleash significant damage. The eight cards sliced into the Giant Bug's body from different angles, breaking through its energy shield and tearing open its shell. The eighth card even penetrated directly into its core. The Giant Bug staggered as if severely wounded, bouncing up and down in place but unable to escape due to being immobilized by the Yellow Card.
In an instant, four heavy cards arrived—sharp as knives. The Force that had just begun to repair the opened wound was torn open again. The fourth card sliced off a large chunk of flesh along with its shell.
No more than three seconds after the first wave of attacks, eight more flying cards emerged. This frequency of targeted strikes showcased the perfect synergy between Blooming on the Tree and Draw a Line to Trap, fully revealing their lethal potential. Cui Ming hadn't anticipated that this Giant Bug would weaken so drastically. He had originally intended to draw a Red Card and confront the Giant Bug directly but ended up drawing a card that created three others instead—three cards that formed a perfect combination and represented his peak destructive power. The Red Card signified a do-or-die situation; his Force multiplied exponentially. With Draw a Line to Trap immobilizing the target and another Black Card's Blooming on the Tree splitting into four copies of himself, Cui Ming could choose between deception or reality. If he chose four real copies, any attack on one would inflict damage on all others. However, with both do-or-die tactics and Draw a Line to Trap at play, there was no fear—he charged straight ahead.
"Impressive," came a voice that seemed both distant and near. "Cui Ming, you owe me a favor; can you repay me?"
Three women approached from different directions: behind was Eva, to the left was Zhao Wei—an ambush within an ambush—and to the right? Cui Ming was surprised to find it was an envoy from the Prophet—a woman dressed in green.
The three women arrived almost simultaneously. Cui Ming feigned confidence and made a gesture with his fingers: "Collect." As Blooming on the Tree and Draw a Line to Trap concluded their effects, it resembled how Cui Ming gathered his cards.
The envoy spoke first in a raspy voice that belonged to the Prophet: "Cui Ming, even if you haven't deceived me, how about we call it even?"
Cui Ming laughed heartily: "Prophet! I can be reasonable, but do you see this big fellow beside me? She's not exactly easygoing. Besides, are you sure I deceived you? I told you I wasn't certain whether Joker Jack had any maps."
"I know whether you've deceived me or not," the Prophet replied coldly. "This bug actually lacks any ability for plague transmission; it's merely an Otherworldly Creature imbued with pure evil energy. I summoned it but didn't expect it would run away instead of thanking me for bringing it out of that lifeless world. My envoy has limited abilities and cannot harm it; now is my chance—I can set up a teleportation array to send it to Silent City."
Eva asked, "What do you want it for?"
"Energy," First Know replied. "This is a pure Void Energy. I need it to study my future development direction."
Zhao Wei clenched his fists and asked, "What if I refuse?"
"Then I will kill him within three months," the messenger pointed at Cui Ming.
Cui Ming shook his head disdainfully and said, "Prophet, how dare you speak to me like that? Don't you know who I am?"
"Oh? You have a background?"
Cui Ming mimicked Zhir's voice, speaking in a low tone, "Leave this desert, or you will die without a burial place. Prophet, you and your friend actually dared to unseal the Mage. If it weren't for my request for him to spare you, you and your friend would already be dead." He chuckled, "You can boast all you want. Do you dare confront Joker Jack? Do you dare face Zhir in the desert?" After Zhir's identity was exposed, it was revealed that the Prophet and his friend came here to unseal the Mage. Zhir, being far away, used a clone to defeat them. The Prophet and his friend were indeed strong enough to escape.
The Prophet was stunned. Cui Ming continued, "This girl is your messenger; I am his messenger. So your threats against me are useless. At the same time, as a way to alleviate the guilt from deceiving you earlier, I can convey a message from him: he said that you think unsealing the Mage will grant you supreme energy, but little do you know that you will only become slaves to that energy. The Mage has no body or form; he is immortal because he exists as an energy entity. I advise you not to pursue him any further. My boss rarely speaks, but when he does, he never lies."
The Prophet completely believed him; there was no way not to believe him or to doubt Cui Ming's words. If Cui Ming knew so much, he must either be a messenger of that Demigod or a friend of that Demigod. Such people are best left alone. The Prophet felt fear rising within him; everyone knew about the Lich on Shadow Island, but few knew there was a powerful figure in the desert who was on par with the Lich. The Wraith had been slain, and Toad had narrowly escaped due to using the Earth Escape Technique twice; he couldn't speak and was severely injured while healing in Silent City. The only one unharmed, the Warden, informed the Prophet about pursuing Cui Ming and encountering a perverse master; he had to report back to his master immediately without giving further details.
If there had been more details provided, the Prophet would never have threatened Cui Ming; this kid truly had backing. In ancient times, evil slaves bullied people not because they were unbeatable but because they had powerful masters behind them.
