Li Qing interjected, "Senior, the involvement of the Warden indicates that the background is not ordinary."
"This is a principle," Wandering Path replied. "How about this: since Miss Beiyue mentioned the Lost Civilization, I can take a step back. The Prophet can be exempted from the oath's punishment within the boundaries of the Lost Civilization. Of course, I can guarantee to escort both the Prophet and Beiyue to the Lost Civilization."
The envoy said, "I need to contact my master; we will discuss this again in the afternoon."
"Alright," Wandering Path said. "Dina, please accompany the envoy and fulfill any needs as much as possible."
After the envoy left, President remarked, "Baldy, have you thought this through? If the Prophet is making such an effort to scheme against the Lost Civilization, it could be something significant."
Wandering tilted his head and whispered in President's ear, "If the Prophet dares to target the Lost Civilization, that would be digging his own grave."
President looked at Wandering, recalling how Wandering had used his reputation to designate a forbidden area during the Alliance meeting in Dawn Desert, warning all practitioners not to enter. When someone asked why, Wandering had simply pointed to the map and said, "Don't go here." Now it seemed that there was something within the Lost Civilization so powerful that even the Prophet could not compete with it.
Finally, in the afternoon, the envoy representing his master agreed to the terms of trade and explained, "My master does not require an escort nor do they need you to temporarily lift the oath. Mr. Wandering and Miss Beiyue can accompany me to the Lost Civilization. Once we arrive at the location, you two may leave."
Wandering looked at President, who nodded. President then stated, "On behalf of the Force Alliance, I agree to this trade. As long as the Prophet does not attack or destroy anything, Alliance members are prohibited from attacking him."
The envoy nodded but seemed indifferent to this point; instead, he turned his gaze towards Wandering. Wandering nodded in agreement. "Can we speak now?"
The envoy said, "The Lich is communicating with my master through a mirror and requests assistance in bringing someone named Cui Ming to Shadow Island. The Lich has recently had a new son and is currently raising his daughter. Previously, he had a son who was a Strategy practitioner. For his son’s sake, he sought out Cui Ming to guide him in cultivation using his research findings; however, Cui Ming did not achieve success. The Lich killed his Strategy son and chose to raise his daughter as a substitute for him. The daughter can only inherit 50% of her father's power. At this moment, one of the women he has imprisoned gave birth to a boy who has just been verified by the Lich as a potential Strategy practitioner. The Lich now faces a dilemma: he has two years; if he does not kill his daughter within that time frame, she will inherit his powers while he ages and dies."
The envoy continued, "My master has other matters to attend to and has introduced a friend and a servant to assist the Lich. Once this task is completed, the Lich will provide a treasure as payment. Three individuals will participate in capturing Cui Ming: one is Warden, whom the Lich saved forty years ago; Warden has been serving him all these years by abducting women for breeding while also gathering food for Shadow Island under the condition that the Lich lifts his heart lock. Warden has now regained all his strength but remains bound by an oath. Only by capturing Cui Ming and delivering him to Shadow Island can he fully regain his freedom. My master's introduced friend is one of the elders from Silent City, summoned from another realm by my master—he has no name but is referred to as Toad by my master. During a vacancy among Silent City elders, he killed seven competitors to become the new elder. Additionally, my master provided Wraith as assistance for Lich."
The envoy added, "Wraith's avatar was killed by wind while attempting to capture Miss Beiyue; this time it is his true form being lent out. My master says that wherever there are shadows, no one can detect Wraith's true form. Furthermore, Wraith is an exceptionally powerful tracker; paired with Toad’s abilities, they complement each other perfectly. Once Wraith tracks down a target, Toad will receive news and can use a secret technique to bring Warden alongside him through teleportation—this technique allows for teleportation up to five hundred kilometers once per month. If Cui Ming is caught up with by Wraith, he will undoubtedly be captured; once Cui Ming reaches Shadow Island, he will be doomed."
The messenger said, "My master has explained everything in such detail, which also shows his sincerity in cooperating."
Wandering smiled and replied, "Your master is probably under pressure and dares not refuse to help the Lich, right? Or perhaps the Lich is using the Death Hat as a bargaining chip? At the same time, your master does not want the Lich to succeed."
"I don't know," the messenger answered.
"Alright, Dina, you will temporarily act as her liaison. Everything is green-lit."
Dina stood up and nodded, gesturing, "This way, please."
After they left, Wandering leaned back in his chair, closed his eyes, and sighed, "The Lich..."
The President said, "Baldy, this is an opportunity. The Lich has been passed down through generations and has become stronger with each one due to careful selection. This time, having no choice but to choose his daughter as the heir will significantly reduce her power and won't pose a threat to the continent."
"Indeed." Wandering contemplated for a moment. "Old man, would you take action against a baby?"
The President looked at Wandering for a long time. "I would if necessary. Just tell me what resources you need. The last few generations of Liches have been quite peaceful, but seven hundred years ago, there was a Lich who managed to temporarily break his oath and leave Shadow Island while still using Force. If we can weaken the next generation of Liches by 50%, it would be well worth it. This way, at least for several hundred years, we won’t have to worry about a talented Lich causing trouble on the continent; we can ensure he remains bound to Shadow Island."
They sat in high seats, speaking very softly; even the council members and Beiyue couldn't hear them. However, Li Qing could hear every word clearly. Unfortunately, with his current strength, he wouldn't even be able to approach Shadow Island without being eliminated first. Wandering thoughtfully glanced at Li Qing and whispered, "Old man, this kid Li Qing is not bad."
"Yes, in a few months I will abdicate; taking on a disciple wouldn't be a bad idea," the President said. "Li Qing is your student’s student..."
"He doesn't suit my taste," Wandering Path replied. "I haven't decided who I want to take on yet."
As the two whispered to each other, Beiyue couldn't help but stand up. "Sirs, right now..."
"Wandering" sat down and said, "Beiyue, you stay for now. You will go with me and the envoy to the Lost Civilization later. The other three of you are free to move about. I want to remind all practitioners that if you discover a Wraith, Warden, or Toad, report it immediately to the Alliance Hunter. Also, we need to investigate; it seems that the Silent City has been isolated from the world for the past twenty years."
The President looked at Beiyue and the others and said, "Don't rush or worry; it's useless. You can't help right now, so leave it to us. Whether Cui Ming is alive or dead depends on his own fate. At least at Falling Moon River, Cui Ming escaped the Wraith's pursuit. Even in Silent City, there aren't many eyes in the Three Continents. If Cui Ming manages to escape, then he will be safe. As for you, don’t rely on your familiarity with Cui Ming to try and contact or find him. The Wraith has a main body and avatars; while the avatars are weak, their tracking and hiding skills are top-notch. If you expose Cui Ming because of your actions and lead to a tragedy, I doubt that's an outcome you would want to see."
Just as he finished speaking, Dina knocked on the door, pushed it open, and poked her head in. "Wei Wei just returned; Eagle Eye discovered an avatar of a Wraith hiding outside headquarters and shot it down." With that, she closed the door and left.
Wandering was quite pleased. "This means two things: first, Cui Ming is safe; second, the Wraith doesn't know where to find him because its avatar must be controlled by its main body’s consciousness. The Wraith is stalled and can only gather information within the alliance; clearly, it's running out of options. Of course, in two years' time, whether the Wraith can find someone is uncertain. However, Lich said he would persist for two years; by then, it might not just be those three individuals—Lich may seek more help to hunt down Cui Ming. This could lead to monsters that wouldn’t dare come to the continent appearing, resulting in a severe shortage of Alliance Hunters..."
Mi Xiaonan muttered, "I feel like there's a bit of Cui Ming's shadow in what you're saying."
Wandering heard this and laughed. "Li Qing, you don't need to say anything; an application will definitely be made. Beiyue, you might want to consider this. Ding Ze, you're seeking a breakthrough—go ahead. Strengthening your abilities is essential when you or your friends need help. Mi Xiaonan, what about you?"
"Me?" Mi Xiaonan pointed at herself. "Aren't we getting off topic again? Why can't we discuss Cui Ming's situation further?"
Beiyue said, "Everything depends on him. I'm going back to rest; I'm feeling a bit fatigued."
"Alright," Wandering nodded. The girl hadn't slept for two days; at least for now, it was good news that the bad guys hadn’t found Cui Ming—she could breathe a little easier.
The President added, "By the way, there's one more thing: Cui Ming is with Feng."
Beiyue turned back and asked, "What do you mean?"
The President replied, "After Feng became one of the Most Wanted Criminals, he vanished without a trace; three Alliance Hunters couldn't locate him. If it weren't for his participation in the Assessment Match to clear his name from the wanted list, no one would know where he was."
Beiyue nodded. "Thank you." That was the best reassurance she could receive.
In the first major city of Divine Island, inside a resident's home, Cui Ming was in the midst of transforming. Feng initially thought that Cui Ming's idea of transformation was merely adding a bit of facial hair or something similar. To his surprise, Cui Ming was going all out; not only did his clothes change, but so did his appearance, hair, skin, and even gender.
With a lady's hat perched atop his head, dressed in a flowing dress, wearing boots, and holding a fan, he was fully transformed.
Feng stared at Cui Ming's new look in shock. "I mean, come on, brother, do you really have to go this far?"
"Absolutely," Cui Ming replied as he admired himself in the mirror. "What do you think? This is a secret technique I learned from a master back in the day. He was fifty-five years old and could transform into a young woman in her twenties, deceiving countless people and swindling their fortunes." (Speaking of which, there was a news story about a young man who married a female lieutenant colonel. His father discovered the military ID before the wedding, leading to his arrest when his age was revealed, and ultimately his gender.)
"Isn't that a bit too flashy?"
"Paralysis! Enough with the nonsense—strip."
"Hey! I've always cared about my image. Let’s make it clear: if you dare tell anyone I dressed as a woman, we’re going to have a serious problem."
"Got it, got it. Aren't you always putting on airs? Today’s your chance to experience it for real."
Feng gasped. "Do I have to change that too?"
"You really have no sense of humor," Cui Ming scoffed. (To be continued.)
