At eight o'clock in the evening, the messenger arrived on time. She was a rather beautiful young woman, possessing a touch of classical elegance. After greeting the three individuals, she placed the guest room phone on the coffee table and dialed a number—one from within Twilight City. This indicated that her employer was indeed in Twilight City. So why not take action herself?
A hoarse voice answered the call. Though raspy, it sounded utterly hollow: "Hello, we can talk now." It was presumably a man.
On this end, Cui Ming picked up the phone and said, "First, we need to know what you want. Some things can be sold, while others cannot."
"Who are you?" the other party asked.
"I am Miss Beiyue's agent. My name is Cui Ming," Cui Ming replied.
"Cui Ming? It's been a while since I've heard that name," the voice responded. "I mean no harm; let's get straight to the point. We need Beiyue or Ding Ze to take us to a certain location."
"Where?" No malice? Did he believe that himself?
"Lost Civilization."
What the hell? What was going on? Beiyue and Mi Xiaonan had been eavesdropping on the conversation, and upon hearing Lost Civilization mentioned, they exchanged puzzled glances with Cui Ming. Was this request really worth such a fuss? Cui Ming placed a finger on her lips, signaling Beiyue to remain silent, and asked, "What are you looking for?"
"That's none of your concern. Just take me to Lost Civilization," came the reply.
Cui Ming said, "It seems you've got the wrong person. You should be asking Classical Exploration Company."
“Classical Exploration Company? Ha, they’re dead.” The voice continued, “They overestimated themselves, thinking they could send a few minor cultivators into the forbidden zone. Not only did all the cultivators die, but everyone from Classical Exploration Company perished as well.”
The forbidden zone? Li Qing had mentioned that place was off-limits, a private domain of powerful beings or individuals. Was it not just that giant insect? Were there other things as well? Classical Exploration Company had offered ten million for Beiyue and his team to go back, but Beiyue refused. So Classical Exploration Company sent their own people, and the result was total annihilation.
Cui Ming said, “Classical Exploration Company must have left behind various records. Why did they seek out Beiyue and Ding Ze?”
The voice responded with curiosity, “Don’t you know? I already went to request the data. That kid stalled me, saying the real information was with his father. After I killed his father, he begged for mercy and gave me the data. It was quite detailed, but it didn’t specify the location at all. He told me that Beiyue and Ding Ze had been there before and had even fought with the monsters. So I had no choice but to come to you.”
Cui Ming pondered, “It should be quite easy for you to capture Beiyue, right? You can easily kill those who we refer to as old monsters.”
The voice paused for a moment before replying, “I wouldn’t say it’s easy; he does have some skills. Unfortunately, he has a foolish son who met a bad end.”
“If I’m not mistaken, after you killed that person, the Alliance has started targeting you, so you dare not show your face, right?”
“Humph… That’s about right.” After killing the old monster, he attracted the attention of the Alliance. Four hunters were dispatched to track him down. Because he violated the agreement of not leaving Silent City within a thousand miles, he became a wanted criminal on the Alliance's first list. The voice said, “I am one of the four elders of Silent City. You may call me the Prophet.”
Upon hearing this name, fear appeared in Beiyue’s eyes, while Mi Xiaonan was equally astonished. Only Cui Ming, who knew nothing of this, looked around in confusion and asked, “From what my companions have said, you seem quite formidable.”
Mi Xiaonan whispered to Cui Ming, “This person is a monster.” Dark magic is referred to as evil magic; it erodes the user's mind and turns them malevolent. Thirty years ago, someone researched dark magic and not only resisted its corruption but also broke through it to master Void Power, a terrifying force with destructive capabilities. When he used this power to create disasters, the Alliance intervened. A hero defeated him and chased him near Silent City. Since he hadn’t actually done anything wrong, the hero forced him to swear not to leave within a thousand miles of Silent City. This hero was also an expert in the Magic System, using an oath to cast a spell; if the Prophet violated this oath, he would be tracked down by this hero and suffer daily punishment of losing all his Force for two hours and enduring excruciating pain. This is known as an Oath Spell; once sworn in the world of Force, it is not something one can easily break.
Due to losing two hours of Force, coupled with being pursued by the Alliance, the Prophet dared not act openly; he constantly shifted his location. Time was pressing; he needed to leave Three Continents. Thus, in desperation, he could only hire Eva and her team to capture Beiyue, but they failed. Now he had no choice but to either act personally or negotiate. The pressure from four hunters of the Alliance along with that oath-bound hero forced the Prophet to choose negotiation with Beiyue.
Everything stemmed from that old monster’s son being too careless about the situation in Three Continents. He truly hadn’t anticipated that the father of Classical Exploration Company’s boss was a cultivator with considerable strength. Upon seeing him, there was no discussion; his mere presence in Three Continents meant becoming a top-tier wanted criminal by the Alliance—everyone had an obligation to eliminate him. With no other option left, he had to kill him. After that point, everything spiraled out of his control. Fortunately, he eliminated everyone who knew his intentions; no one was aware of his goals; otherwise, Beiyue would have been protected and monitored long ago, leaving him without any chance to achieve his objectives.
After exchanging a few words with Cui Ming, the Seer realized that a conversation was possible, for the person before him was a self-serving individual. Such people lacked a strong sense of honor and responsibility, even when it came to their enemies in the Alliance. Unlike that old monster, he wouldn’t indiscriminately turn against his own.
Cui Ming said, "Let me confirm one thing first. You want Beiyue to take your envoy to the Lost Civilization, where she encountered the giant insects, correct?"
"Yes."
"And you will not be traveling together; only your envoy will accompany her, right?"
"Correct." The Seer added, "At the same time, I require that you keep this confidential and do not report it to the Alliance. I want to make it clear that if you violate this agreement, even if I am executed by the Alliance, the Three Elders will eliminate you for my sake. The Alliance can protect you for a day, but not for a lifetime. In this situation, we can only rely on trust."
Cui Ming looked at Beiyue, who replied, "He is an enemy of the Alliance; we cannot assist him." Although there were no strict regulations against it, helping to expel targets of the Alliance was always difficult to accept.
Cui Ming pondered for a moment and asked, "Before we proceed, how much do you know about Strategy?"
"Strategy?" The Seer was taken aback and then replied, "You've asked the wrong person about that."
"One more question: Do you know the whereabouts of Beiyue's father? He is referred to as Master Bei by the Alliance."
"I know of Master Bei, but I do not know him personally and have no idea where he is."
Cui Ming said, "Then what are we even talking about?"
