Everyone politely introduced themselves, and Cui Ming, with a sense of decorum, initiated a conversation. "Jayce, you don't look like you're sixteen to eighteen. Why are you farming?"
"I brought my sister here," Jayce replied, noticing the surprised expressions around him. "Our royal family is just like ordinary people. I'm just one in five hundred thousand. I was discovered at a young age, destined not to inherit the throne, but to be a guardian."
So that's how it is. I never heard that the royal family of Twilight City were cultivators. Cui Ming asked, "What about your sister?"
"Hey, hey," Jayce said, clearly displeased. "Don't start asking about my sister right away; it's none of your business. Where are you all headed?"
"If you're willing, treat us to lunch and you can take us to Twilight City. If not, just drop us off somewhere with people ahead," Cui Ming replied.
Jayce nodded. "There's a small town up ahead."
Wow... that was too straightforward. Using reverse psychology on him worked too well; he agreed without hesitation. How shameless! Cui Ming added, "Actually, she's my boss, not my girlfriend."
"Oh?" Jayce looked at Beiyue for a few seconds before his expression changed. He casually took out a bottle of red wine and two glasses, smiling as he said, "The journey to Twilight City is long. Meeting cultivators on the way is also a kind of fate. Let's have a drink together and enjoy the hope of early spring on our journey."
Beiyue shyly lowered her head while holding onto Cui Ming's arm and said, "Maybe we should get out of the car."
What the hell? What’s going on? Is it or isn’t it? Jayce turned to Mi Xiaonan, who looked back at him and said, "Hey, I'm a guy."
Just as Jayce was about to respond, a loud bang echoed through the air as the car shook violently. Without hesitation, Jayce's body collided with the vehicle and flew up. A massive hammer over two meters long appeared in his hand, and a yellow lightning shield enveloped him as a bullet exploded against his body, sending Jayce flying outwards.
Jayce was agile, twisting his body as he landed, his hammer striking the ground and creating a shockwave that surged toward his opponent. The opponent quickly retreated, firing a shotgun, and a bullet exploded, enveloping the area in smoke. Just as Jayce prepared to charge forward, he felt a sharp pain as he was bound in place. A black whip had ensnared him, its barbs piercing into his flesh, sending waves of agony through his body. Even a tough man like him found himself kneeling on one knee from the pain.
At that moment, Beiyue slammed her Greatsword into the ground, the shockwave knocking Jayce aside and dispelling the black thorns that had bound him. Jayce unleashed his Force, blowing away the smoke completely.
Twenty meters to his right stood a Masked Man with a shotgun, while fifteen meters to his left was a woman dressed entirely in black with her face covered, her figure alluring... but now was not the time to think about that. Beside Jayce was Beiyue, her four Greatswords spinning like windmills in her right hand. On top of a nearby vehicle were Mi Xiaonan and Cui Ming.
"Ah," Cui Ming wiped the cold sweat from his brow and instinctively looked for Li Qing. Eva, though masked, was unmistakable with that figure. And it went without saying that the one with the shotgun was Regis.
"Is it you?" Eva looked at Cui Ming, her tone filled with surprise.
Cui Ming felt as if those words weren't directed at him. He smiled nonchalantly. "I don't know you; don't get to know me. You two definitely can't win right now, can you? Woman, I owe you something from before; how about we settle it now?" He had a trick up his sleeve for dealing with her. Cui Ming swiftly drew out the Fate Card and glanced at the Force position on it; his expression changed drastically. He grabbed Mi Xiaonan and tossed her aside. "Make your move."
"How do I do that?" Mi Xiaonan exclaimed in shock. Without thinking too much, she formed a hand seal and shouted, "Ninjutsu, Fire Release!" The ground erupted in a wave of sparks as someone five meters away was blasted into visibility. This technique posed no threat to cultivators, but Mi Xiaonan had no idea what she was doing and decided to test it out first. Upon seeing a human figure, she immediately shouted again, "Ninjutsu, Chidori... You bastard, it's you!"
Cui Ming recognized the person who had been blasted out—Joker Jack—who was known as an elite stealth assassin. Beiyue also spotted him and wasted no time in charging forward. As Joker Jack detonated a ball in his hand, two Jacks split off to escape in opposite directions. Once an assassin's invisibility was broken, it was rare for them to evade capture when faced with enhanced abilities.
"Right!" Cui Ming shouted.
Joker Jack was struck by a blade and flew ten meters away. Beiyue leaped into action, her four Greatswords flashing with cold light as they slashed toward him. This was a coordinated attack; unless Joker Jack was Mott Stone Golem or some giant insect, he would be forced to tremble under the impact and would have no chance to retaliate temporarily. The follow-up strike upon landing would theoretically leave him defenseless. After all, Beiyue was an enhancer; she shouldn't be underestimated as merely a simple powerhouse.
"Mi Xiaonan," Cui Ming's attention shifted just as Eva closed in on him. Eva created an illusion that embraced Cui Ming tightly; he found himself unable to move as countless tendrils of dark energy emerged from the illusion's body, wrapping around him like snakes.
Mi Xiaonan immediately shouted, "Ninjutsu..."
"You are mine." Regis unleashed a barrage from his shotgun, the pellets forming a net that surged towards Mi Xiaonan.
Mi Xiaonan pivoted on her legs, transforming into a lightning ball as she escaped. Beiyue, witnessing this, immediately rushed to assist, while Joker Jack flashed an evil grin and vanished from sight.
"Do you think I'm dead?" Royal Jayce roared in fury, hurling his hammer which emitted a white light that struck Eva's main body in the distance. The immense impact scattered Eva's Force, sending her crashing into a nearby tree, breaking it in the process, and she rolled away.
Cui Ming narrowly escaped and glanced at Fate Card. With the last bit of time, he believed Jack was the most difficult opponent to deal with. The Yellow Card flew out, locking Joker Jack in place as he rushed towards Mi Xiaonan. Unceremoniously, Mi Xiaonan launched a flurry of shurikens with Chidori, preparing for a big move when Joker Jack transformed into a small clown box.
"Substitution technique?" Mi Xiaonan exclaimed in surprise. She hesitated; last time Li Qing had been caught by the small clown box and fell into a mental attack trap.
After launching the Yellow Card, Cui Ming began to throw cards to restrain Regis, believing Mi Xiaonan could handle the locked Joker Jack. Turning back, he saw Mi Xiaonan on high alert, with a small clown box seven meters ahead. Cui Ming urged, "Blow it up."
"Too late." Joker Jack's voice echoed like it came from hell—gravelly and seemingly laced with amusement, sending chills down their spines. Accompanying his voice, the box vanished without a trace.
At that moment, Cui Ming's Fate Card disappeared, leaving him unable to locate Joker Jack. However, it seemed the enemy knew they could break invisibility; Eva endured her pain and fled into the fields. Regis also disappeared after throwing several smoke bombs.
This encounter was incredibly swift; it ended in just twenty seconds. Such pace was not something training could prepare them for nor was it one Beiyue's team could adapt to—it was the rhythm of assassins: strike and retreat if unsuccessful. They had considered forcing an attack to eliminate their targets. But with one more person on Beiyue's side and Cui Ming’s ability to break invisibility, another assault immediately inflicted severe injuries on Eva. Under these circumstances, they quickly split into three routes to retreat.
However, now any of Beiyue’s members could easily chase after either Eva or Regis—had they abandoned one of them? Cui Ming felt something was off; it didn’t seem like an assassination attempt at all.
