They were aboard the Pearl Cruise Ship, which had been sailing for two days. They were still quite far from the controlled waters of Lank. However, the South China Sea was dotted with numerous islands of varying sizes, and due to the strength of the Eastern Continent Bacteria, particularly the Navy's relatively weak capabilities, there were several groups of pirates active in these waters.
Today, however, the pirates had made a mistake. If they were from Lank, it would be a different story, as Lank also had practitioners among them. It was unreasonable for ordinary pirates to target practitioners. Judging by the crew's reactions, they seemed quite calm and experienced, as if they were used to encountering pirates.
The pirates found themselves in an awkward position; their goal was not to destroy the ship but to rob it. This forced them to approach the vessel closely, even boarding it. The crew members were armed with biological weapons, and if a fight broke out, the pirates would be at a disadvantage.
The passengers, unfamiliar with pirates, reacted with screams and hurried footsteps echoing throughout the ferry. However, the captain quickly announced that the alarm had been lifted. Cui Ming stood on the deck and noticed that the crew was looking toward the side of the ship. A speedboat was rapidly approaching the ferry, carrying only one person. Mi Xiaonan handed binoculars to Beiyue, who looked through them and saw a woman dressed in a wetsuit and wearing sunglasses. Most of her face was obscured, making it difficult to discern her features, but she appeared to be quite young. Beiyue whispered to Cui Ming, "A practitioner."
The speedboat matched the ferry's speed as it drew near. The crew remained on high alert while the woman picked up a communicator and spoke with the captain. Soon after, the ferry came to a halt, and she boarded. The captain greeted her on deck as she retrieved a document from her waterproof backpack and handed it to him. After reviewing it, he broadcasted: "The Ocean Affairs Bureau Police of the Eternity Alliance are in pursuit of a suspect. All passengers are requested to gather in the cabin hall. We appreciate your understanding; you wouldn't want any pirate spies mingling among you and jeopardizing everyone's safety."
As the captain made this announcement, the woman approached Cui Ming and his companions. She scrutinized them for a moment before quietly saying, "My name is Wei Wei, an Alliance Hunter. I am here to capture a vampire."
Cui Ming was taken aback; he was no novice and had some understanding of the Alliance by now. There was a seat within the Alliance specifically for hunters. Any member of the Alliance or even ordinary practitioners could become bounty hunters tasked with capturing wanted criminals. However, Alliance Hunters were different; they not only pursued wanted criminals but also eliminated threats to human survival and assisted city-state police in apprehending criminal practitioners. Li Qing's teacher was one such Alliance Hunter who had perished while eradicating a red dragon that attacked human settlements in the Arctic.
Alliance Hunters were neutral entities unrelated to politics; they also investigated internal cases within the Alliance itself, effectively serving as its police force. Not everyone could become an Alliance Hunter; candidates were selected from applicants within the Alliance through a rigorous evaluation process that demanded justice and integrity as fundamental moral criteria. Additionally, due to their need to combat dangerous criminals and colossal creatures—sometimes even dragons—they faced high standards regarding their abilities. In practical terms, they needed to be capable of independently defeating giant insects like those Cui Ming had encountered before.
Currently, there were six Alliance Hunters in total within the Alliance, including one warrior who sought revenge for Li Qing's teacher as part of a duo known for slaying dragons. Li Qing had not mentioned any names because hunters were respected even within the Alliance itself; her aspiration was to inherit her teacher's legacy and become an Alliance Hunter.
Mi Xiaonan and Beiyue clearly shared Cui Ming's astonishment at encountering an Alliance Hunter; they struggled to find words or simply didn't know what to say. Cui Ming was quick to respond and shook Wei Wei's hand: "Hello, Cui Ming from Dawn City." Was this truly a matriarchal society in the cultivation world? Were women so dominant? Looking at this girl—her figure beneath that wetsuit was stunning; her black hair paired with sunglasses gave her a model-like appearance despite her youthful age—she was indeed a member of the Alliance Hunters.
Beiyue came to his senses and shook hands. "Dawn City, Beiyue."
Mi Xiaonan jumped onto a chair and seriously shook hands with Wei Wei. "York Clan, Mi Xiaonan."
Wei Wei was slightly surprised. "Mi Xiaonan? The new Mi Xiaonan from the Hall of Heroes? The one who single-handedly captured Weir?" Wei Wei had once driven Weir away due to a local invitation and was well aware of Weir's abilities. Weir's corrosive power was formidable, possessing a targeted dark corrosion ability that was inescapable. Once caught, one would have to divert their focus to expel the corrosive force, making Weir a difficult opponent in one-on-one combat.
Cui Ming and the others had underestimated Weir's strength. Objectively speaking, during the battle between Cui Ming and Weir, Cui Ming was struck before he even had a chance to act and then managed to escape by playing dirty. He was later caught by the Hexagram Array but again managed to slip away. As a newcomer, Cui Ming never faced Weir's Dark Magic ball until the end, only to be ambushed by Evelyn, falling victim to a trap and getting shot in the head.
In their second encounter with Weir, the York Clan ganged up on him with five members. From the battlefield perspective, Weir could easily defeat any single member, and even against five, he might not necessarily lose. Initially, Mi Xiaomo used stealth to launch poisoned arrows, followed by Mi Xiaonan unleashing Ninjutsu. The key point was that the five members were very familiar with Weir, while Weir knew nothing about them, not even how many there were. Mi Xiaonan had trained in Ninjutsu on Sakura Island since childhood, and since Weir had never heard of Mi Xiaonan, he fell victim to their tricks repeatedly.
Cui Ming's perspective was flawed; he felt that Weir was only slightly stronger than himself. His prolonged battle with Weir led Ding Ze, Beiyue, and Li Qing to believe that Weir was of average level. Only Wei Wei, who had truly faced Weir directly, understood how formidable he was in one-on-one combat and could face any opponent without fear. When he heard that Mi Xiaonan had single-handedly captured Weir, Wei Wei was particularly shocked.
Mi Xiaonan prepared to explain that it wasn't just five against one when they fought Weir; there were four other people nearby as well. However, before he could speak, Wei Wei solemnly embraced Mi Xiaonan and said, "I sincerely hope we can work together."
Mi Xiaonan excitedly replied, "I will do my best to become an Alliance Hunter."
The scene of mutual admiration was exhilarating; Mi Xiaonan even forgot to clarify that he hadn't fought Weir alone. After a brief introduction among them, Wei Wei led them into the cabin to search for vampires.
Vampires were a relatively rare group on the continent of Eternity. They possessed certain superhuman abilities but were far inferior to practitioners. However, because they weren't practitioners themselves, they could hide more easily from them. Normally, vampires appeared no different from ordinary people; however, they had an insatiable thirst for blood—akin to someone wandering in a desert for two days without food or water craving for it. Depending on their cycles of thirst, some might need to drink blood from a person once a month while others required it weekly. Drunks, lonely women working in remote areas—these were their preferred targets. Some vampires were quite picky about their prey; they favored those who were handsome or beautiful with good physiques. It was said that blood also varied in quality; blood from individuals with high cholesterol or high blood sugar tasted better but could lead to obesity. While vegetarian blood was healthy, it was too bland for their taste...
