"Remember this well," the kitchen said, "Boss, the radish leaves are pickled. Would you like to try some?"
Before Beiyue could respond, Li Qing dashed into the kitchen. "Hmm... it has a bit of a raw taste, and the chili flavor is key. It must be stir-fried with three-layered pork; you can skip the meat if you want, but it should be a bit fatty."
Beiyue sighed. Forget it; I’ll just go to Dawn City and chat with Evelyn to gather as much information as possible. After all, Evelyn often travels to Hero City. Next time we stray off-topic in a meeting, I can read out the intel and do my part. Beiyue slung the Greatsword over his back and said, "I'm not eating anymore; I'm heading to Dawn City."
"Okay," Li Qing, Cui Ming, and Mi Xiaonan replied in unison.
No one even asked why he was going to Dawn City...
As Beiyue left, Li Qing asked, "Don't you feel bored on the island?"
"Huh?" Cui Ming was taken aback. "Senior Brother, I can say that, but you shouldn't. I'm curious how you got here from Zhenhai Temple."
Li Qing sat down and explained, "I spend half the year away from Zhenhai Temple. When I'm at the temple, I often grow vegetables and fish. With Beiyue supervising here, I feel like I need to put in some effort."
Cui Ming inquired, "Wandering around for half a year? What good places have you found?"
"There are plenty of good places. The women of Windmoon City, the Three Major Mountain Ranges of Eastern Continent. Plus, there are the Four Oceans and North Iceland... Cui Ming added, "I have a recommendation: Twilight City in Eastern Continent is hosting the 29th Eternal Sphere Gambling King Tournament, featuring five main events and ten sub-events including poker, blackjack..."
"Junior Brother," Li Qing decisively rejected that idea. "I don't want to use tricks; if I can't see it clearly, using tricks is equivalent to cheating. It’s not interesting at all. I think skiing sounds great."
"Flying is a dream of humanity," Mi Xiaonan said.
"Gambling is human nature," Cui Ming replied.
"Snowboarding is a challenge for humanity," Li Qing added after a moment of thought.
It seemed they were at an impasse; what one liked, another did not. After some debate, Mi Xiaonan finally conceded, saying they could go wherever they wanted. Cui Ming and Li Qing remained stubborn in their positions. To Cui Ming, snowboarding had once been a means of transportation but had now become a luxury sport for those with nothing better to do. He wondered if those enthusiasts who hiked up the slopes instead of using lifts still found it enjoyable. Li Qing further emphasized the dangers of gambling, criticizing Cui Ming, and neither side was willing to back down.
When Beiyue returned, they were still arguing. After understanding the content of their dispute, Beiyue chose to ignore them, preferring silence. After handing a letter to Ding Ze, he tidied up his things and prepared to head out for training. In Beiyue's view, while quick success was hard to achieve for cultivators, the daily accumulation of effort could build a tower from grains of sand.
Ding Ze, who had not participated in the discussion and was too lazy to go anywhere, looked at the letter and then at Cui Ming and Li Qing, who were eating and debating in the living room. He asked, "Who has time to accompany me to the Western Continent?"
For someone as lazy as Ding Ze to travel such a distance piqued Beiyue's curiosity. "What's going on?" he asked.
"My grandfather wrote to me, asking me to go to the Western Continent to relocate my mother's grave back to the Ye Family."
Cui Ming was puzzled. "Isn't your grandfather quite heartless? Doesn't he even recognize his daughter?"
"Exactly, Cui Ming," Ding Ze replied as he sat down. "What you see is just the surface. If only a few people from both families knew about this matter, the Ding Family would have no choice but to endure the loss quietly. But if it leaks out, it changes everything; everyone in the cultivation world would be watching the two families' embarrassment. At that point, we must take a stand—the Ding Family expelled me, and the Ye Family cannot interfere. Now that the storm has passed, my grandfather has been feeling guilty about his daughter. So here I am, going to relocate her grave and also reconnect with my lineage in the Ye Family. Who knows? I might soon change my name to Ye Ze."
Beiyue asked, "What do you think about it? The Ye Family is a prestigious family in Twilight City and holds significant status in the alliance. They won't look down on you; after all, you carry their bloodline."
"I certainly don't want to join the Ye Family," Ding Ze replied. "I know this situation isn't anyone's fault, but I also don't wish to have any ties with those aristocratic families again. However, relocating my mother's grave is necessary; it's currently in a public cemetery managed by the Cult of the Gods. Bringing her back to the Ye Family would provide her with some comfort. But honestly, I'm not keen on facing the Ye Family; I don't know how I should approach them."
After pondering for a moment, Beiyue suggested, "Cui Ming, why don't you accompany Ding Ze?"
"Me?" Cui Ming asked; he wasn't particularly fond of getting involved in such complicated family matters.
"You are more tactful... Mi Xiaonan, you should go too. You are a hero of the York Clan; your status as a practitioner in the Hall of Heroes is quite esteemed and grants you privileges similar to those of an elder in the York Clan. Even if the Ye Family tries to bully him because of age differences, they won't go too far with Mi Xiaonan present." Beiyue considered various scenarios: Cui Ming was good at problem-solving regardless of method; Mi Xiaonan's status had completely changed since joining the Hall of Heroes in the York Clan.
Mi Xiaonan asked in surprise, "Beiyue, how do you know my status is the same as the elders now?"
Cui Ming corrected her, "What Mi Xiaonan actually wants to ask is, since you know my status is so high, why do you still let me do menial tasks?"
Mi Xiaonan hurriedly replied, "I didn't."
Beiyue interjected, "Everyone knows about the York Clan. Cui Ming, stop bullying her."
Cui Ming questioned, "Is that so?" looking at Mi Xiaonan.
"No," Mi Xiaonan answered earnestly. "Cui Ming treats me very well. He has taught me a lot, cares for me, and looks after me."
Li Qing looked at Mi Xiaonan and asked, "Brother, is the Cui Ming you're talking about the same one I know?"
Seeing the conversation veering off course again, Beiyue quickly brought it back on track. "Why don't you four go on a trip together? Just consider it a leisure outing. I just got back from Dawn City and contacted the professor. He asked me to find someone—a friend of my father's who participated in the assessment with him. He mentioned that this Greatsword was forged into this shape for a specific reason." When Beiyue was training, his father had gone missing, so he had been exploring weapon usage on his own. His father's friend had been living in the Eastern Continent. The professor managed to contact him through letters, and he replied saying he hoped to meet Beiyue.
Li Qing suggested, "How about this? Ding Ze and I will head to the Western Continent first, then we can meet up in Twilight City on the Eastern Continent and accompany Ding Ze to the Ye Family. Many members of the Ye Family are part of the alliance; they have their own specialized training assessment methods. We can inquire about them when we get there."
Beiyue asked curiously, "Why Cui Ming?"
Why indeed? Because it wasn't a lie; with Cui Ming around, there were no lies that couldn't be smoothed over. Among these five people, it was hard to trust Beiyue to travel far alone since his furthest journey had only been to Dawnmoon City. Cui Ming was seasoned and likely familiar with the entire continent. So Li Qing used this excuse: "Cui Ming knows the Eastern Continent well. Beiyue, you rarely travel far; I think Cui Ming would be helpful. Mi Xiaonan, are you going to the Eastern Continent or the Western Continent?"
