As the one-month deadline agreed upon with Mi Xiaonan approached, explosive news emerged from the Western Continent: two City-States' practitioners were set to form teams and engage in a public confrontation at the Alliance's headquarters, Hero City. Located five thousand kilometers south of the Eastern Continent, the large island known as Easter Island is the birthplace of the Cult of the Gods. Covering an area of four million square kilometers and home to ten million people, ninety percent of whom are followers of the Cult of the Gods, Easter Island has three cities on its western side, while only small villages exist on the eastern side where the Force Alliance's headquarters is situated.
On the eastern coast lies a twenty-square-kilometer area that was once Divine Cult City. It was abandoned due to frequent earthquakes, prompting humans to migrate westward. After the establishment of the Force Alliance, several countries sent representatives to restore this city, which became the headquarters of the Alliance and is now referred to as Hero City.
This competition will be broadcast for the first time on television; however, live streaming capabilities are not yet available, so it will only be a recorded broadcast. The reason for this is that discussions surrounding practitioners have escalated tensions between the two City-States. After deliberation, the Alliance decided to fully disclose the truth about practitioners to prevent certain cults and conspirators from exploiting it and causing chaos on the planet. The theoretical explanations have already been made public, highlighting the dangers of ordinary people practicing cultivation. This competition also marks the Alliance's first televised event.
The commentators responsible for broadcasting this event are not ordinary individuals, despite having typical professions. There are two commentators who will use special techniques to film the competition while providing commentary. The first is Liu Na, a renowned commentator from Dawn Empire Television. At twenty-two years old, she is a practitioner of the Magic System and also a cousin of the Emperor of Dawn Empire.
The second commentator is Ding Dewen from the Ding Family, a male practitioner who is well-known in both Western Continent and Dawn Empire as a Gold Medal Broadcaster. His brother, Ding Nuo, is one of the members with a seat in the Alliance.
The frequent earthquakes in Hero City are caused by a massive deposit of Force Ore underground. After renovations by the Alliance, earthquakes have ceased, and this power has been harnessed to construct an arena. However, prolonged exposure to this modified Force can harm ordinary people; thus, all filming and commentary work will be handled by these two broadcasters.
Some City-States within the Alliance received a limited number of tickets for on-site viewing. Upon hearing this news, Beiyue immediately contacted Evelyn to see if she could obtain some tickets. Evelyn informed Beiyue that due to the conflict involving Western Continent and Dawn City’s lower status within the Alliance—having no official seat—Dawn City had opted out and did not apply for competition tickets.
To put it bluntly, Dawn City was deemed unqualified to attend. The reasoning was sound: Dawn City had only joined the Alliance fifty years ago and had enjoyed fifty years of arbitration exemption. Excluding three elderly individuals residing in Dawn City, there had been only a few practitioners over these fifty years without any members from other alliances; thus, in terms of scoring within the Alliance, Dawn City held just one point like many other City-States with populations under one hundred thousand. In contrast, Nordo City from Eastern Continent scored eight points and received twelve tickets.
Cui Ming consoled Beiyue by mentioning that there would be television coverage as well. Of course, by the time it reached Dawn City, it would likely be half a month after the competition had concluded—but it was better than nothing. Beiyue explained to Cui Ming that competitive matches were entirely different from assessments; they were confrontational contests. Moreover, broadcasters could only capture two scenes simultaneously while there were ten participants overall; although viewers could see highlights on television, sometimes those less exciting moments were crucial.
Feeling helpless, Beiyue approached a professor for advice. The professor could only suggest thinking of solutions; he was a neutral party who wouldn’t favor or privately use his resources from the Alliance to assist anyone—even though he was somewhat familiar with Beiyue and her group.
Li Qing strongly opposed attending in person: "Anyone can go but me! I won’t go! If I’m there in person I won’t see anything... At least I can watch clearly on TV; being there would just leave me completely lost."
Ding Ze completely did not want to go, as he would encounter many people from the Ding Family.
In the end, he still couldn't make it. Beiyue felt gloomy all day, but finally, Cui Ming cheered her up with Beiyue's signature dish and some cold jokes about Beiyue.
Beiyue had changed, yet remained the same. The unchanged part was that she still enjoyed quietly reading, spending more time standing than sitting or lying down, standing tall and exuding a sense of determination. The change was that Beiyue had started to listen to everyone's opinions; she no longer made decisions without explaining herself when no one asked. In the early morning, Beiyue stood by the window reading the morning paper. Recently, she had been very interested in the news because it mostly concerned Force Practitioners. The newspapers and television stations objectively detailed the responsibilities, obligations, and boundaries of practitioners, completely unveiling the mysterious veil surrounding them.
Today's paper introduced the structure of the Force Alliance, which consisted of forty-seven seats. The seats were elected by members of the Force Alliance and City-States, who then elected a President. During the election for seats, each City-State had two votes while alliance members had one vote. For instance, Dawn City only had two City-State votes and no members in the alliance, making it impossible for them to secure a seat.
"Hey!" A familiar voice called out as Beiyue saw a flash of lightning dart toward the window. Before she could react, the lightning broke through the window and crashed onto the floor, rolling all the way to smash through the door and tumble down the stairs.
Cui Ming was at the stairs, holding a toothbrush in his mouth while brushing his teeth and looking at Mi Xiaonan lying motionless on the ground. A single word came to mind: counterfeit.
Li Qing was washing her face when she heard the commotion and immediately rushed over to check: "He's injured." She flipped Mi Xiaonan over and found him unconscious. Without hesitation, Li Qing waved her hand, activating three True Sight Guardians to monitor the surrounding area.
At that moment, Beiyue hurried downstairs. Initially thinking Mi Xiaonan would be standing coolly by the window, she felt something was off when he burst out instead. Upon seeing Mi Xiaonan unconscious with almost no Force left and in critical condition, she said, "Ding Ze, get upstairs; Cui Ming stay here to protect—there may be enemies approaching." The enemy must be nearby; otherwise, Mi Xiaonan wouldn't have had such an opportunity.
