In an instant, remember this: the Yorkian group has come to challenge Beiyue. One Mi Xiaomo left, and now there's Mi Xiaona, along with Mi Xiaolu and Mi Xiaobo. In just a couple of days, they encountered more new practitioners than Beiyue had seen in the past two years. Their goal was simple: to find Weir, who was last seen lurking around Dawn City. Evelyn, as a police officer, could not leak any information. A group of MIs attacking Weir would also violate the law.
Cui Ming was bold enough to take risks, persuading one after another. There were experienced practitioners within the York Clan, but by the time the third person arrived, Cui Ming had laid it out clearly: sign the contract, and you could become a hero. He also urged them to consider the conditions; after five years of work, they could earn the title of hero and gain entry into the Hall of Heroes. If they couldn’t become heroes, they wouldn’t need to work for five years—this was an opportunity that seemed too good to pass up. A hero must be adaptable; if you’re too attached to your possessions, you’ll never catch the wolf. Those with great wisdom must first understand what to give up and what to gain… He subtly indicated that without signing the contract, becoming a hero was impossible.
Thus, Mi Xiaonan, Xiao Mo, Xiaona, Xiaolu, and Xiaobo all signed a contract. Everything was ready; they just needed a favorable wind. The only remaining question was whether Cui Ming's judgment was correct. If Weir was still at Lincoln Manor, a group of MIs could easily turn it upside down—there would be no escape for him. If he wasn’t there, they had already set up a fake Hexagram Array.
Beiyue had grown numb; whenever a MI arrived, they silently signed contracts without protest. The task of persuasion fell entirely on Cui Ming. He said to her, "Boss, make sure to choose wisely. If that unfortunate Weir really is at Lincoln Manor, we can artificially make someone you favor into a hero."
So Li Qing and Beiyue analyzed together and ultimately felt confident in their choices. They told Cui Ming not to play games with them. Cui Ming understood; from here on out, it would be simple. Currently, his odds were 80% in favor of his side while his own chances stood at 20%. It wasn't about using his own chips… perhaps he should consider collaborating with the house. As for Weir—forget it; that guy was too unreliable.
Days passed in the blink of an eye. On the night before their scheduled time at eleven o'clock, all five MIs received intelligence: "Weir is still at Lincoln Manor. The Beiyue Agency will arbitrate this fair competition; please refrain from malicious competition or we will inform your elders."
At dawn, Beiyue, Ding Ze, Li Qing, and Cui Ming arrived at Lincoln Manor and chose to observe from the rooftop of the main building. This operation did not alert Evelyn; since the last incident at Lincoln Manor, only six or seven security guards remained on duty while the owner and servants had relocated to another estate. With money comes ease.
Under the bright moonlight, the first to appear was Mi Xiaobo wielding a large hammer. She was among the more experienced MIs and convincing her had cost Cui Ming quite a bit of effort. Mi Xiaobo reached a building but did not act immediately; she quietly waited as if hoping for an opportunity to reap benefits from others' efforts.
Li Qing remarked, "Mi Xiaobo should be primarily focused on enhancement abilities; however, I also sense her combat skills are quite impressive." The team didn’t lack for Mi Xiaobo’s presence; thus she had little hope of being chosen—even if they captured someone here, there was still Cui Ming to contend with.
The second to appear was Mi Xiaolu—a simple girl who politely approached the main building to greet those from Beiyue Agency. She was also a practitioner of the Magic System and began chanting incantations. Soon enough, fireflies gathered around Lincoln Manor, fluttering about as they searched for Weir's whereabouts while Mi Xiaolu cast spells that put all security guards into a deep sleep.
The third to appear was Mi Xiaona from the Transformational System. She was also a woman, entering with fierce determination. A flash of fire lit up Lincoln Manor as she strode in, wielding a steel cannon taller than herself. After scanning the area and confirming there was no one around, she wasted no time and began firing indiscriminately, reducing the Ghost Tower to ruins. Then, she moved on to the next building, clearly intent on leveling Lincoln Manor to the ground. In response, Judge Beiyue and his team sprang into action, relocating all the unconscious security personnel to safety.
Mi Xiaonan and Mi Xiaomo had yet to make an appearance, while the other three Mi siblings remained silent, each employing their own methods to search for Weir's whereabouts. Mi Xiaobo threw a hammer that pierced through the walls of the building, making a full circle before returning to her hand. Quietly, she moved towards the right-side building.
The right-side building was the Stable, adjacent to a garage. As Mi Xiaobo approached the Stable, a sudden burst of flames shot out, blowing off the roof. Angrily turning around, Mi Xiaobo saw Mi Xiaona bouncing toward her with a cannon in hand. Clearly, Mi Xiaobo's unusual behavior had drawn attention; Mi Xiaona's fireflies also flew into the collapsed Stable.
Mi Xiaobo merged with her hammer, breaking through obstacles and rushing into the Stable to survey the area. The hammer in her hand indicated that traces of practitioners had been found here. As they searched through the ruins for a while, Mi Xiaolu, being more innocent, couldn't help but exclaim upon discovering something: "There's a tunnel!" The fireflies had located the entrance to the tunnel.
Lincoln Manor was originally Fungal Fortress; having tunnels was normal. With immense strength, Mi Xiaobo cleared away all obstructions and lifted a stone slab, revealing a staircase leading downwards. The three of them jumped into the tunnel one after another.
Almost simultaneously, a statue in the center of the manor suddenly moved. After turning halfway around, a Green Cloak Man jumped out—who else could it be but Weir? Cui Ming pointed and was about to call out when Beiyue quickly covered Cui Ming's mouth with two fingers and whispered "Neutral." This contact startled Cui Ming, who instinctively looked up at Beiyue. Realizing his own actions were inappropriate, Beiyue swiftly turned to assess the situation.
Weir was certainly looking to escape; upon seeing Beiyue Agency members, he felt somewhat at ease. However, when he noticed the three Mi siblings entering the scene, he understood he had to flee. Weir was cunning; he placed a magical energy trap at the tunnel entrance to lure them in. Once they entered the tunnel, he slipped out from his hiding spot.
Weir dashed southward as Cui Ming anxiously exclaimed, "He's running!"
Beiyue murmured, "Let him run; there's nothing we can do." They must not break protocol.
Ding Ze sat on the top floor with his feet dangling as he watched Weir. "This is an internal matter of York Clan; we cannot interfere."
Just then, a flash of cold light shot from the shadows toward Weir's body. He immediately dropped a Hexagram Array and darted sideways to escape. Mi Xiaomo appeared out of nowhere and rapidly pursued Weir. Blowing into a bamboo tube she held in her mouth, she launched a blow dart that struck Weir once again. A layer of green energy enveloped Weir as this dart was laced with poison. Furious, he shouted, "Mi Xiaomo! You’re here too!"
Mi Xiaomo did not respond but continued her relentless chase. Suddenly, before her eyes, the Hexagram Array flickered and drew her in. This was what Beiyue had warned about—getting too close to Weir made one susceptible to being caught by the Hexagram Array. As it ensnared her, Weir turned around and unleashed Black Corrosive Energy aimed at Mi Xiaomo but found that she had vanished.
Weir sneered, raising his staff. "I can see you hiding." A vortex appeared in mid-air, and a dozen black objects shot out, crashing to the ground with a thunderous roar. One of the black objects fell and exploded, sending the hidden Mi Xiaomo flying over ten meters. Weir grinned maliciously. "I'll deal with you first."
