Jack shuttles through the abandoned supermarket, carefully searching for supplies that could be helpful for his journey. His gaze eventually falls on a large box of energy bars, which are ideal provisions for long-distance travel. He sits down and begins to calculate, contemplating the approximately 200-kilometer journey. If he can walk 20 kilometers a day, he can reach his destination in about ten days. Therefore, he prepares about two weeks' worth of food to cope with possible delays or unforeseen difficulties.
As for food, Jack is not too worried because he believes he can find some opportunities to supplement along the way. However, he is particularly cautious about drinking water. Despite his superpowers giving him some resistance to radiation-contaminated substances, and even enhancing it to some extent, Jack knows the limits of this ability are unknown, so he is unwilling to take unnecessary risks.
To ensure an adequate and safe drinking water supply during the journey, Jack began to look for possible water sources, such as bottled mineral water or clean water sources. He found some uncontaminated water bottles in the supermarket warehouse and carefully inspected each bottle to ensure they were not damaged or showing any signs of leakage. He also looked for containers to store water so that he could replenish his water supply along the way.
Jack's preparations were thorough and meticulous. He knew that the success of this journey depended not only on his physical strength and willpower, but also on the adequacy of his preparations. As the preparation of equipment and supplies gradually completed, Jack felt an unprecedented confidence about the upcoming journey, while also approaching the unknown challenges with caution. He deeply understood that this would be a difficult and unknown journey in his life, but he was ready to face everything.
Realizing the difficulty of walking to Paradise Town, Jack began to look for possible means of transportation. He knew very well that finding a functioning car in this world destroyed by nuclear explosions was almost an impossible task. The extremely high temperatures generated during the nuclear blasts had nearly burnt out all the sophisticated circuit boards, rendering most vehicles inoperable. Even if there were a few seemingly intact vehicles, getting them back on the road would require replacing the circuit boards, which were extremely difficult to find in this desolate world.
Jack carefully searched through the ruins around the supermarket, hoping to find any type of usable transportation. He not only checked cars but also looked for possibly forgotten bicycles or motorcycles, which might be more likely to be repaired and used without circuit boards. However, the reality was harsh, as many vehicles were either buried under the rubble or rendered unusable due to prolonged radiation erosion.
In the process of searching, Jack maintains patience and perseverance. He knows that in this post-apocalyptic world, every effort could be the key to survival. Despite the current difficult situation, he does not give up hope. In his view, even in such a desperate environment, as long as he continues to search, there will always be a solution to the problems. Jack firmly believes that as long as he keeps searching, one day he will find a way to safely reach Paradise Town with his companions.
In a street corner left in disarray due to a strong explosion, Jack discovers a row of fallen bicycles. These bicycles were once indispensable means of transportation for office workers, students, and even housewives in their daily lives, bearing witness to the bustling life of the city. However, now they lie there, no longer recognizable in their original colors and models, only twisted, rusted skeletons remaining, resembling a pile of useless scrap metal, silently telling the stories of the time before the apocalypse.
With a glimmer of hope, Jack attempted to lift one of the bicycles, hoping to check if it could still be repaired and used. However, as he exerted force, the handlebar of the bicycle instantly snapped off and fell to the ground with a faint sound. This indicated that the bicycle had been eroded and corroded for a long time, with its internal structure and materials severely damaged, rendering it unable to withstand any form of use.
This scene left Jack feeling helpless and disheartened. In this devastated world, even the most basic and simple means of transportation are not spared from difficulty and become unusable. This made Jack even more aware that finding a reliable means of movement in this desolate apocalypse posed a challenge far beyond his imagination.
Nevertheless, Jack did not give up. He took a deep breath, placed the broken handle back in its original position, and continued to search for potential opportunities in the ruins.
Jack continued to search through the row of broken bicycles, unwilling to give up hope of finding at least one bike with an intact frame. Even if it required more parts for repair, he was willing to try. He carefully inspected each bicycle, hoping to find a glimmer of hope in this pile of scrap metal. In this wasteland, any usable resource was incredibly precious.
At that moment, Ah Mao suddenly called out excitedly and urgently from the side. Jack immediately looked up and noticed Ah Mao standing at the entrance of a nearby alley, peering inside as if it had discovered something there. Jack was intrigued and immediately set down the bicycle parts in his hands, walking towards Ah Mao's location.
As Jack approached, Ah Mao became even more excited, pacing in place with its tail wildly wagging, as if to tell Jack that it had truly found something unusual. Jack followed Ah Mao into the alley, where they found a fairly well-preserved bicycle parked at the end. Although the bicycle had also endured some weathering, its condition was noticeably better compared to the other bikes they had seen before.
Jack felt a hint of joy in his heart as he stepped forward to carefully inspect the bicycle. He found that its frame was intact, although the tires needed to be inflated and the chain might need to be replaced. However, these were all problems that could be solved. He turned to look at Ah Mao with gratitude in his eyes, realizing that if it weren't for Ah Mao's discovery, he might have missed out on this bicycle.
