As the recently popular Spider-Man, Peter Parker was not having a good time.
Not only did he fail to catch Sandman, but he also had to deal with the aftermath of Little Mister's three stores being completely demolished. Although an insurance company stepped in to take the blame afterward—
—Peter was scared!
How could he not be scared? Just recently, he had lost three hundred thousand dollars and was still selling himself to pay off debts. He had no idea how he would ever clear his obligations, and now he was stuck with the fallout from three destroyed stores!
“Sandman!” Peter gritted his teeth, feeling anger bubbling within him.
To be honest, whether it was the initial losses or the subsequent destruction of the stores, he had only played a tiny part in it; the rest was all that damn Sandman's doing!
“Peter… you’d better be careful while driving!” Big Bald Rob warned, raising his eyebrows. “This car belongs to Coulson’s little darling. If it weren’t for you picking up Little Mister, I doubt he’d let anyone else touch it!”
Peter felt a chill run down his spine. His Spider-Sense told him that if he dared to scratch the car or drive it into a ditch, the consequences would be dire!
“Can I drive another car? This one is too precious! I can’t afford to pay for any damages!” He glanced at the various cars in the parking lot, feeling a twitch in his eye. He would rather drive the most ordinary vehicle than risk touching Coulson’s prized possession.
Rob chuckled and pointed at a few other cars in the lot. “The three cars next to you belong to Natasha, and that one over there is the Director’s. The armored vehicle right next to yours is mine, and a hundred meters behind you is a line of cars belonging to Kitch. Even the remaining cars are mostly used for self-destructing!”
“You want to drive one of those?” Big Baldy’s gaze turned icy. If Peter dared to lay a finger on his little darling—
Hmph! What could Spider-Man do? Without tall buildings as a backdrop, he was just another coward!
Complete annihilation without explanation!
"Does this car have insurance?" Peter couldn't help but shuffle his feet back a bit; Big Baldy's gaze was too intense. Treating the car like a wife—why didn't he get that kind of treatment?
After all, he was a superhero from S.H.I.E.L.D.!
"Peter, I told you to drive carefully, not because your skills are lacking, but to keep you away from those criminals and monsters!" Peter wisely stepped away from his beloved car, and Big Bald Rob's expression softened as he explained, "You've really had some bad luck lately!
"Three outings, and you've either run into Sandman during a robbery or encountered the Giant Lizard popping out of the sewer. By the way, weren't you near that big guy (Hulk) yesterday?"
"Heh! I didn't want any of this!" Peter said with a forced smile, looking utterly defeated. "I just went to the supermarket to buy some things yesterday. Who knew that big thing would pop up right after I paid?"
"You didn't pay, did you?" Big Baldy raised an eyebrow.
"…!" Peter, at a loss for words, suddenly gritted his teeth and shouted, "I left my whole wallet on the counter! When it came back, all that was left was my ID!"
The atmosphere suddenly turned awkward; that was a tough topic to follow up on!
Honestly, leaving behind just an ID was already something!
Rob rubbed his shiny bald head. He had initially wanted to comfort Big Boy by patting him on the shoulder, but thinking about how bad luck could be contagious, he stepped back a few paces to distance himself from Peter.
"It's getting late; you should hit the road, Peter!" Finally, when he had moved quite far away, Big Baldy said to the dark-faced Big Boy.
Hit the road? Hearing that annoying phrase made Big Boy break out in a cold sweat.
Glaring at Big Baldy as if he were a plague, Peter smirked slightly. With his hands behind his back, he suddenly shot out a web that accurately stuck to the drive shaft of the armored vehicle.
After completing this secretive action, Peter chuckled lightly at Big Baldy, turned around, and suddenly yanked open the door of Coulson's little wife—uh, I mean the door, yes, that's right—and sat inside, roaring off into the distance.
Watching Peter give him a strange smile one last time, Big Baldy scratched his head, shivering uncontrollably. Could this little Spider be twisted into some strange attribute by that old woman Natasha?
...
Peter was completely unwilling to go pick up Chen Fan, but alas, it was an order that could not be refused!
The car sped down the highway, the luxurious and sci-fi-inspired sports car attracting countless glances along the way!
He had definitely received his fair share of flirtatious looks from beautiful Big Sisters!
Gripping the steering wheel, Peter had never felt so exhilarated. The countless envious and jealous gazes directed at him made him feel like he was truly living the life of a wealthy person!
—He must apply for a personal vehicle when he gets back!
That was Peter's current thought.
The S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters was only half an hour away from the airport; of course, this conclusion was based on Peter's sharp senses and his ability to speed over three hundred miles per hour. Normally, it would take about an hour.
As for speeding violations?
Coulson's car bore the S.H.I.E.L.D. insignia, a well-known organization among Americans. No one would want to wait for someone to explain the full name of S.H.I.E.L.D. to them!
As they approached the airport, traffic increased significantly, causing congestion. However, the most eye-catching sight was still Coulson's little wife!
Just as the thought crossed Peter's mind, a chorus of gasps suddenly left him bewildered.
"Look! It's Iron Man! Tony Stark!"
"What an impressive suit! No wonder he's a genius inventor; this sci-fi exterior is the epitome of a man's romance!"
"Huh? What’s Iron Man doing at the airport? Is he here to catch some terrifying criminal? Wow! Look up, the news station's helicopter is coming!"
"This is a big deal! It can't be anything less!"
Watching as the wide road became a chaotic mess, Peter felt a painful twitch at the corner of his mouth. Clearly, his approach to leaving home had issues. Was it really that complicated just to pick someone up at the airport?
If Sandman was the criminal Peter most wanted to capture, then Iron Man, Tony Stark, was definitely the last person he wanted to see.
The last time he encountered the Giant Lizard, that guy nearly blew him up too. Just thinking about it made Peter feel a wave of gloom!
Was it just his imagination? After that incident, Peter reflected and realized that wherever there were cameras, Iron Lump would start showing off—whatever looked cool was fair game.
And if he happened to be within camera range, that guy would also show off!
—By blowing up the camera!
While Peter was questioning his life choices, Tony, perched on a utility pole, was speaking to J.A.R.V.I.S. "How long until that Giant Lizard shows up?"
"Five minutes, sir!" J.A.R.V.I.S. replied.
"Can you calculate its location?" Tony, enveloped in Iron Armor, asked while waving at the helicopter above and striking a cool pose.
This wasn't intentional; it was a reflex!
"The target is expected to emerge from the sewer one hundred meters behind you, with a probability of... 96%!" J.A.R.V.I.S. reported, then added in a rather peculiar tone, "Sir! Spider-Man, Peter Parker, has been spotted in that flashy car one hundred meters to your right. Should I give him a shout?"
"That guy is here too? Did S.H.I.E.L.D. get wind of the Giant Lizard? That can't be!" Tony shouted in confusion. Without J.A.R.V.I.S. monitoring all the cameras in New York, pinpointing the Giant Lizard's location would have been impossible!
Yet now, Spider-Man, affiliated with S.H.I.E.L.D., had appeared and was blocking the entrance where the Giant Lizard was about to emerge!
Could this be a coincidence?
As J.A.R.V.I.S. hacked into S.H.I.E.L.D.'s internal network at Tony's command, down below, a massive green creature known as the Giant Lizard was swiftly navigating through dark, foul-smelling passages.
"Hiss! Hiss!"
The Giant Lizard flicked its tongue, its enormous eyes revealing a hint of madness. Its tough scales were unyielding against steel and concrete; even a light touch could create a gash!
—That aura! The aura of evolution! Devour! If I consume it, I can evolve to an even more perfect state!
Kurt Connors, the Lizard Monster, screamed within his mind!
