Alan firmly held onto his mother and Eilena's hands, his gaze sharp as he surveyed the surroundings. His heart was filled with anger and helplessness, but he knew that at this moment, he had to stay calm.
The slave settlement had originally been immersed in the tranquility and harmony of the Four Symbols Creation Day, but now, everything had changed. Flames reflected on Alan's tense face, the towering flames resembling a demonic dance, voraciously consuming everything. The Black Flag Army of Duke Morgan descended like the grim reaper, wielding blades and torches, roaring loudly and mercilessly brandishing their weapons.
The tents were torn, the wooden houses were burned, and the slaves suffered even more. The soldiers forcibly dragged the slaves hidden in the tents and wooden houses, roughly tied them up one by one, and threw them onto the prisoner carts. The ropes bound them tightly, causing their skin to break and bleed.
The slaves tried to resist, but their efforts were futile. The soldiers ruthlessly chopped off the heads of several slaves, then demonstrated with a cold smile to the others. This terrifying intimidation made most people no longer dare to resist, leading to a chaotic mass escape.
A large number of slave hurriedly fled into the nearby mountains, while behind them, the soldiers sneered and pursued closely. The intertwining of fire, swords, and blood created a hellish scene.
Alan pulled his mother and Eilena through the sea of fire and chaos, forcing himself not to think about the fate his father might be facing. Every step felt like walking on a razor's edge, but he couldn't stop, couldn't look back. He could only grit his teeth and keep moving forward.
In the deep forest, three people hurried through with heavy pressure weighing on their hearts. Alan, his mother, and his sister Eilena traversed mountains and rivers, passing through thickets and crossing swift streams, as if racing against death.
At that moment, a cry of pain pierced the silence.
Mom accidentally stepped on a slippery rock and fell in pain. Alan quickly turned around and saw his mom lying on the ground with her ankle twisted abnormally, the surrounding skin already red and swollen.
"Mom!" Alan hurried to his mom's side and quickly crouched down to try to help her up.
"Don't worry about Mom, you two kids run quickly," Mom's eyes were filled with tears, but she still smiled firmly.
Alan felt a tightness in his throat, tears almost spilling from his eyes. "No, Mom, we'll go together, I'll support you, we can definitely do it!" he responded urgently.
Mom looked at Alan with a powerless yet loving gaze, then shook her head slowly. "Alan, you are the future of this family. You and your sister must survive."
At that moment, a rush of footsteps and shouts came from behind them, the pursuers were very close. A strong sense of danger enveloped them, making it almost impossible to breathe.
Alan was panting heavily, everything in front of him was like a knife in his heart. He struggled to pull his mother up from the ground, but at that moment, a heavy slap landed on his face.
"Alan, wake up!" His mother's voice carried an indescribable sense of urgency and determination.
He looked at her in astonishment, his eyes filled with confusion and anger, but his mother's gaze was even more resolute.
"The most important thing now is for you and Eilena to survive, do you understand? I'll be fine!" his mother said urgently.
Alan stood up silently as if struck by a heavy blow. His anger and unwillingness surged like giant waves in his heart, but he knew his mother was right. He turned and grabbed Eilena's hand. Eilena looked at her mother with teary eyes and then kissed her on the cheek.
"Mom, I love you," Eilena said, biting her lower lip, her voice choked with emotion.
Mom smiled, her smile filled with infinite love and sacrifice.
"Go quickly, don't look back!" Mom almost shouted these words.
Alan tightly grabbed Eilena's hand and rushed out like a released wild beast. He dared not look back, but every step felt like stepping on a knife in his heart.
Meanwhile, his mother lay on the floor, weak but with a determined gaze. When the pursuers finally caught up, she stared at them with bloodshot eyes.
"Come on, you beasts! If you have the guts, come over and end this once and for all!" she taunted and provoked, her voice filled with anger towards life, injustice, and everything lost.
The soldiers hesitated for a moment, then turned and walked towards her. Mom knew she had successfully drawn their attention, giving Alan and Eilena a chance to escape.
At that moment, what flashed through Mom's mind were the smiling faces of Alan and Eilena when they were young, and the happy times they had spent together as a family. She closed her eyes, and tears quietly streamed down her cheeks.
"If only all of this could happen again..." she whispered in her heart, then waited for the impending conclusion.
Alan's face was extremely serious, his eyes filled with pain and anger, but also revealing a hint of determination. He tightly held his sister Eilena's hand and ran forward at full speed. Behind them, the shouts and footsteps of the soldiers gradually faded, as if they had lost track of them.
"Eilena, hold on, we're almost safe," Alan gritted his teeth, making his voice sound more resolute.
Eilena was panting as she followed behind him, her small face pale, her eyes filled with tears and confusion. Why did everything have to become so tragic? But she didn't speak, only followed closely behind her brother.
Suddenly, he saw a hidden tree hollow up ahead and without hesitation, he pulled Eilena inside. The hollow was dim and damp, but at least they were temporarily safe.
"Eilena, are you hurt?" Alan asked, trembling as he touched his sister's face and arms, checking for any obvious injuries.
Eilena shook her head slightly. She knew that crying about her pain now was meaningless. She leaned slowly against her brother and said haltingly, "Dad and Mom..."
Alan took a deep breath and felt as if his heart had been struck by a heavy hammer. He touched Eilena's head, his eyes shimmering with tears. "I know, Eilena. But now, we can't let their sacrifice be in vain. We have to keep living, for them and for ourselves."
