Tang Hao'er pressed the gun barrel against Nicholas, snorting coldly and saying, "You don't get to apologize to me."
Nicholas turned his gaze to Zhao Jun, who was watching coldly from the side. Sweating profusely, he said in English, "I apologize, sir. I spoke out of turn and insulted you earlier, which upset your girlfriend. I'm sorry."
Zhao Jun stared at Nicholas and nodded. "I accept your apology. There's an old Chinese saying: 'Trouble comes from the mouth.' I hope you remember that."
With the gun barrel still pressed against his forehead, Nicholas dared not nod or wipe away his sweat; he could only repeatedly say, "I remember."
Tang Hao'er huffed and withdrew her gun, turning to Zhao Jun and Li Wei. "Let's go."
Zhao Jun forced a smile and followed Tang Hao'er forward, while Li Wei kept his gun aimed at Nicholas and the others as they retreated behind Zhao Jun and Tang Hao'er. Once they had walked a good distance away, he finally lowered his weapon and turned to catch up with them, unabashedly flattering Tang Hao'er. "Sister Hao, you were so cool just now! I've decided that from now on, you're my idol. I will only admire you! By the way, what did that guy say earlier?"
Li Wei's audacity was impressive; he actually called Tang Hao'er "Sister Hao." He deserved full marks for that flattery.
Tang Hao'er shot Li Wei a glance and asked, "Do you want to hear it?"
Li Wei nodded eagerly. "I want to hear it."
Zhao Jun facepalmed and kicked Li Wei lightly. "Are you serious? You want to hear insults? If you want to hear them so badly, go back and ask him to insult you a few times."
Tang Hao'er couldn't help but chuckle as she linked arms with Zhao Jun. "We really are on the same wavelength; I was just thinking of sending him back to Nicholas for some insults."
Nicholas glared at the retreating figures of Zhao Jun and the others, gritting his teeth. "Damn it, I'll get my revenge for this sooner or later."
His companion beside him sighed and tugged at Nicholas. "Mr. Nicholas, Mainland Chinese are not to be trifled with. We haven't suffered any losses here; why not just let it go?"
"Let it go? Did you not see that woman pointing a gun at my head?" Nicholas roared at his companion.
The companion hurriedly closed his mouth. If it weren't for you cursing at them first, would they have a gun pointed at your head? However, he dared not offend Nicholas; their family was merely a subordinate clan of the Ayla Family. Their participation in this event was merely a result of him flattering Nicholas, and he had no idea how Nicholas would deal with him once they returned. How could he dare to provoke Nicholas again?
The two-square-kilometer island was neither too big nor too small. Moreover, the people who had escaped from the Bandit Nest were all like startled birds, hiding away at the slightest sound. Zhao Jun and Tang Hao'er had searched until they got close to the Bandit Nest but had not encountered a single person who had escaped.
The dark Bandit Nest loomed like a monster over the only flat land in the island's harbor. The bandits not only failed to repair the searchlights at the corners but had even extinguished the few lights that were available within the Bandit Nest. In the darkness, countless pairs of eyes were vigilantly watching for any movement outside the Bandit Nest.
Zhao Jun and his companions dared not get too close. They huddled in a shadowy spot and discussed their next move before circling around the Bandit Nest toward the beach.
When they encountered Mei Xiangyang and his group of Singaporeans, one of Mei Xiangyang's companions mentioned seeing Mainland Chinese running toward the beach and suggested searching in that direction to see if they could find them.
The three of them struggled through the forest and rocky terrain to reach the seaside, following the coastline toward their hiding place while occasionally whispering names like Yang Bing.
Unbeknownst to them, several hours passed without encountering anyone who had escaped from the Bandit Nest.
In fact, it wasn't that Zhao Jun and his group hadn't encountered anyone; during their search, two Japanese nationals spotted Zhao Jun and his companions from a distance. They heard Zhao Jun calling out in Mandarin but did not come out from their hiding place to meet them.
In complete darkness, on such a large island with mountainous terrain and ravines, it was difficult for people to discover each other unless they came face to face.
When Zhao Jun and his companions returned to the beach where their hiding cave was located, it was just at low tide during moonset.
Zhao Jun stopped and looked at Tang Hao'er and Li Wei. "Why don't you two head back first? I want to look for Brother Yang."
Tang Hao'er grabbed Zhao Jun's arm. "Zhao Jun, we've been running all night. Let's go back to the cave, eat something, and rest a bit. We can split up to search for them once it gets light."
Zhao Jun sighed. "Alright then. I hope we can find them easily when it gets light."
The three of them waded through the water back to the cave. Inside was pitch black; the campfire had gone out, but the air was filled with the lingering scent of smoke and food.
Zhao Jun stood at the entrance of the cave and called softly into the darkness, "Da Xiong, are you there?"
Cheng Zhengxiong's voice came from the shadows nearby, "It's Zhao Jun and the others who have returned."
"Is it Teacher Zhao?" A stranger's voice echoed from within the cave.
Hearing the voices, Zhao Jun raised an eyebrow and replied, "It's me."
Suddenly, a flame flickered to life as the campfire was rekindled. Cheng Zhengxiong, Su Mei, and three others stepped out to greet Zhao Jun and his companions as they waded in.
Tang Hao'er let out a sigh of relief and lowered the AUG he had been holding for a long time. Excitedly, he shouted at the approaching figures, "Xue Peng, Fang Jia Shen, how did you find your way here?"
Tang Hao'er was quite sociable and had already introduced himself to everyone on the way here, remembering each person's name.
As Zhao Jun and his companions climbed out of the water, Cheng Zhengxiong noticed that Zhao Jun was carrying an Assault Rifle in one hand and had another slung over his shoulder. Li Wei had also upgraded his weapon to an M16. Raising an eyebrow, he asked Zhao Jun, "Did you take out a few more bandits?"
Zhao Jun nodded and handed the rifle in his hand to Cheng Zhengxiong. He turned to shake hands with Xue Peng and Fang Jia Shen while sizing up another person he didn't recognize.
Anyone who had taken the same flight would seem familiar to Zhao Jun, even if he hadn't spoken to them. This person looked unfamiliar, indicating that he likely wasn't part of their group from Mainland China.
Xue Peng grasped Zhao Jun's hand and shook it vigorously. "Teacher Zhao, thanks to your attack on those bad guys outside, Mr. Yang was able to free us all. Otherwise, we trapped inside would have been in big trouble..."
