The sea breeze swept in, the shadows of the trees danced in the forest, and visibility was extremely low. Otherwise, Tang Hao'er wouldn't have recklessly opened fire on the group of people from Singapore just moments ago.
Zhao Jun and Tang Hao'er were both focused intently on the direction from which the footsteps were coming, the very direction where Mei Xiangyang and his companions had just departed.
Could it be that Mei Xiangyang and his group had returned?
A startled exclamation broke the silence, followed by a series of clattering metal sounds.
Zhao Jun frowned slightly; that sound was familiar. He reached out to Tang Hao'er, pressing his palm downwards to signal her not to fire recklessly.
Tang Hao'er was an excellent shot. If she fired and it turned out to be their own people approaching, it would be a problem.
Suddenly, a figure stumbled out from the shadows, cursing under their breath as they struggled to hoist a pile of scattered items back onto their back. They groped for support against a large tree and took a few steps forward, lowering their voice to call out, “Zhao Jun? Sister Tang? Are you there?”
It was Li Wei.
Hearing that familiar voice, Zhao Jun breathed a sigh of relief and stepped out to wave at the shadowy figure. “Li Wei, over here.”
“Damn it, you two are really here! I thought those Singaporeans were pulling my leg,” Li Wei exclaimed as he hurried over, his voice rising several octaves.
Zhao Jun quickly approached Li Wei and whispered, “Keep your voice down. What are you doing here?”
According to their agreement, Li Wei was supposed to gather usable supplies from the site of the crashed helicopter. Zhao Jun had specifically warned him that if he heard gunfire from this direction, he should return to the cave immediately and not come over to assist, to avoid friendly fire.
Li Wei leaned against Zhao Jun's arm and dropped a large bag onto the ground with a grin. “I didn’t want to go back later and have you complain about me being ungrateful. I figured, what’s the worst that could happen? We all have two shoulders and a head; one bullet to the brain and it’s lights out anyway. I’m all in for this! Let’s make it exciting together. What do you think? Am I being a good sport?”
Tang Hao'er stepped out without holding back and spat at Li Wei. “Pah! You can’t expect anything good from a dog’s mouth. Who said we’re in this together? Just wait until I tell Jiang Rui how to deal with you when we get back.”
Zhao Jun tossed an Assault Rifle off his shoulder and handed it to Li Wei, whispering, “Stop with the banter. You came at just the right time; Brother Yang and the others might have escaped. Let’s go find them.”
Li Wei let out a sound of acknowledgment as he took the gun, his eyes gleaming with excitement as he fondled the impressive 16. "Wow, how did you get this?"
Zhao Jun patted Li Wei on the shoulder and said quietly, "Let's go."
Li Wei kicked the bundle at his feet and asked, "What about all this junk?"
Zhao Jun glanced at it and inquired, "What’s in there?"
Li Wei replied nonchalantly, "Everything you can think of—iron plates, wires, ropes, batteries. I even took apart the radio from the helicopter; not sure if it still works."
"Everything is useful; just carry it," Zhao Jun said without hesitation.
"Seriously? I have to carry it?" Li Wei grumbled under his breath, glancing at Zhao Jun's burden and the two rifles he was carrying. Reluctantly, he slung the bundle back onto his back.
The three of them cautiously made their way closer to the Bandit Nest. Along the way, they encountered a few people fleeing from the nest, but unfortunately, they were not Yang Bing and his group; instead, they were from Palm Country. The two sides exchanged a few guarded words, but Zhao Jun and his companions did not learn anything about Yang Bing or other Mainland Chinese individuals from them.
However, as they were about to part ways, Nicholas from the Ayla Family in Palm Country offered a hefty sum for one of Zhao Jun's assault rifles. Unfortunately, what he called a hefty sum was merely a promise that would only be fulfilled once he returned to Palm Country.
Zhao Jun quickly made up an excuse to refuse Nicholas's request. To be honest, he had no good feelings towards the people of Palm Country who had always been hostile towards China. In this perilous situation on the island, there was no way he would sell his weapon to Nicholas for what amounted to an empty promise.
After being turned down by Zhao Jun, Nicholas couldn't help but mutter some curses in Tagalog under his breath.
Zhao Jun didn’t understand Tagalog, but he could tell from Nicholas's expression that it wasn’t anything nice. However, this wasn't the time to make a fuss; Zhao Jun simply frowned and ignored him.
Suddenly, Tang Hao'er, standing behind Zhao Jun, pulled back her gun's bolt and aimed it directly at Nicholas's forehead. With a fierce glare, she commanded him in Tagalog, "Take back what you just said and apologize to my boyfriend, or I’ll blow your head off."
Zhao Jun was taken aback by Tang Hao'er's sudden outburst. Although he couldn’t understand what she was saying to Nicholas, he could guess that she was standing up for him.
However, Zhao Jun did not stop Tang Hao'er from her actions; he merely fixed his cold gaze on Nicholas's eyes.
Li Wei was also taken aback. What had started off well suddenly turned chaotic as Tang Hao'er pressed a gun against the other man's head. He quickly raised his own weapon, swinging it left and right to intimidate Nicholas's accomplices, and whispered to Zhao Jun and Tang Hao'er, "What's going on?"
Tang Hao'er completely ignored both Zhao Jun and Li Wei. She stared directly at Nicholas and coldly said in Tagalog, "I will count to three. If you don't apologize by then, I will pull the trigger. One..."
Nicholas was startled. He hadn't expected that the girl next to Zhao Jun understood Tagalog, and even more so, that she would be so bold as to press a gun against his forehead.
However, Nicholas didn't quite believe that Tang Hao'er would actually shoot him. After all, he was one of the heirs of Palm Country's Ayla Family. His emotions could directly influence the rise and fall of Palm Country; it wasn't just a matter of someone pointing a gun at his head—if anyone dared to sneeze in his direction, they would face severe consequences.
Hearing Tang Hao'er actually start counting, a young man behind Nicholas hurriedly stepped forward to grab him, panic written all over his face as he said to Tang Hao'er, "I apologize on behalf of Mr. Nicholas. I'm sorry, ma'am..."
Tang Hao'er paid no attention to the young man and jabbed the gun's muzzle hard against Nicholas's forehead, coldly uttering one word: "Two..."
Only then did Nicholas realize that Tang Hao'er was serious. His body trembled as he quickly said to her, "I apologize."
Damn it, if she really counts to three and pulls the trigger, I could be done for.
The few people behind Nicholas breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing their proud leader apologize. They looked at Tang Hao'er with a mix of admiration and fear.
This girl is ruthless; she gave Nicholas no chance to breathe and immediately counted down to two.
