Zhao Jun glanced at the corpse of the bandit at his feet and said to Mei Xiangyang, "I suppose I can say I killed him. He was one of those bandits, and there's another one over there under the tree." 0

"Is he a bandit?" Mei Xiangyang repeated uncertainly, crouching down to turn the bandit's face. In the dim starlight, he took a quick look and stood up excitedly, saying to Zhao Jun, "He really is a bandit! I recognize this guy; he was one of those who extorted us." 0

With Zhao Jun's identity confirmed, Mei Xiangyang and the others visibly relaxed. 0

Zhao Jun looked at Mei Xiangyang and asked, "Mr. Mei, how did you all escape? How many of you got out?" 0

Mei Xiangyang stared at Zhao Jun in confusion and asked, "Mr. Zhao, how did you escape? How could you not know what just happened?" 0

Before Zhao Jun could respond, a woman behind Mei Xiangyang suddenly spoke up softly, "I get it now; you were one of the first five to escape here." 0

Zhao Jun nodded simply and replied, "Yes." 0

The woman stepped forward with admiration in her eyes and said to Zhao Jun, "You all are amazing! You discovered these bad guys' plot as soon as you arrived." 0

Mei Xiangyang grabbed Zhao Jun's hand gratefully and said, "You were the ones who ambushed the bandits outside earlier, right? Thank you so much! If it weren't for the chaos you created outside, we wouldn't have been able to escape from that prison. By the way, weren't there five of you who escaped? Where are the others?" 0

Zhao Jun lightly coughed and said, "We acted separately; I'm the only one here. Mr. Mei, it was a Mainland Chinese who freed you from your cell. Can you tell me what happened?" 0

Zhao Jun was reluctant to reveal that Tang Hao'er was also nearby and had her gun trained on them; he had to be cautious. 0

Mei Xiangyang and his companions took turns describing their escape to Zhao Jun. They had gotten out relatively early and were unaware of what happened later in the Bandit Nest. However, they knew that a Mainland Chinese had fought against the bandits to distract them. 0

It must be Brother Yang. 0

Zhao Jun was almost certain that the person fighting the bandits was Yang Bing; aside from him, he couldn't think of anyone among the thirty or so companions who would have such courage and spirit. 0

Zhao Jun looked at Mei Xiangyang urgently and asked, "Did you see if that Mainland Chinese who fought with the bandits managed to escape?" 0

Mei Xiangyang shook his head apologetically. "When we got out, they were still shooting..." 0

Zhao Jun pondered for a moment before saying solemnly, "I suspect that when dawn breaks, the bandits will conduct a large-scale search of the island. Our weapons are limited right now; we aren't capable of confronting them directly. We escaped two steps ahead of you and found a hiding place. If you don't have any other plans, you can temporarily stay with us." 0

Zhao Jun hesitated about whether it was appropriate to bring these people back to the cave, wondering if it would cause them unnecessary trouble. However, thinking that they were all lost souls in the same predicament, he set aside his personal concerns. 0

Upon hearing Zhao Jun's invitation, Mei Xiangyang and his four companions began to hesitate. 0

Mei Xiangyang nodded apologetically at Zhao Jun and said, "Mr. Zhao, please wait a moment while I discuss this with them." 0

Zhao Jun nodded and stepped aside, holding his gun. 0

Mei Xiangyang pulled a few of his companions aside, and they began to whisper among themselves. 0

A few minutes later, Mei Xiangyang returned to Zhao Jun's side and said apologetically, "Mr. Zhao, we discussed it and decided not to trouble you. There are a total of seventeen of us from Singapore who were tricked into attending this event, and now only the five of us are together. We want to search for the others and hope they can escape safely as well." 0

Zhao Jun nodded at Mei Xiangyang and said, "Alright, I hope you all stay safe. I also need to look for those who came from China." 0

Zhao Jun understood that Mei Xiangyang and his group shared the same concerns as he did. On this island, although they were all lost souls, an invisible boundary based on nationality had quietly formed among their groups. In times like these, people naturally felt closest to those of their own ethnicity. 0

Mei Xiangyang extended his hand to Zhao Jun once more and sincerely said, "Mr. Zhao, on behalf of us Singaporeans, I sincerely thank you Mainland Chinese for your help. I also hope that the Chinese hero who protected our escape remains safe. If we have the opportunity in the future, we will definitely repay your life-saving kindness." 0

Zhao Jun shook Mei Xiangyang's hand and replied, "No need for formalities. You Singaporeans share the same bloodline as us Mainland Chinese. We hope everyone can survive and escape this island." 0

Mei Xiangyang shook Zhao Jun's hand vigorously and said, "Thank you. I hope we all can leave here alive." 0

Zhao Jun nodded and released Mei Xiangyang's hand. Mei Xiangyang turned to his companions and said, "Let's go." 0

The others approached Zhao Jun one by one to shake his hand before following Mei Xiangyang as they continued their climb toward the mountain top. 0

Watching their figures fade into the distance, Zhao Jun suddenly called out, "Mr. Mei, please wait a moment." 0

Mei Xiangyang and his companions stopped in their tracks, looking at Zhao Jun warily. 0

Zhao Jun strode over to Mei Xiangyang's side, drew a 9mm pistol from his waist, turned it around, and handed it to Mei Xiangyang with a serious expression. "Mr. Mei, keep this gun for self-defense." 0

Mei Xiangyang was taken aback for a moment and awkwardly accepted the pistol from Zhao Jun's hands. Gratefully he said, "This... this is too precious. I don't even know how to repay you." 0

In this environment, even a mountain of gold is not as valuable as a weapon for self-defense. 0

Zhao Jun patted Mei Xiangyang's arm and said, "Let's go. If we survive, come back to Southeast City and buy me a drink." 0

Mei Xiangyang nodded vigorously at Zhao Jun and replied, "Sure, I won't return until we're drunk, and even if we are, I still won't come back." 0

Zhao Jun smiled and said, "Good." 0

Mei Xiangyang opened his arms and gave Zhao Jun a tight hug, wishing him well before turning to lead his four companions forward. 0

Watching Mei Xiangyang and the others disappear into the forest, Zhao Jun let out a breath and walked back. 0

Tang Hao'er emerged from the shadows with a gun in hand and asked Zhao Jun, "Who were they? How did they get out?" 0

Zhao Jun briefly recounted his conversation with Mei Xiangyang to Tang Hao'er. He secured the camouflage bag on his back again and slung three Assault Rifles over his shoulder. He turned to Tang Hao'er and said, "Hao'er, many people have escaped. Let's see if we can find Brother Yang and the others." 0

Tang Hao'er replied, "Let me help you carry a rifle." 0

Zhao Jun dodged slightly and said, "No need. We have to pick up the pace. If we can't make it back to the cave before the second low tide, we'll be in trouble." 0

Tang Hao'er acknowledged with an "oh" and stopped insisting. The two of them cautiously made their way down the mountain. After only a few steps, they suddenly heard footsteps approaching from behind. In perfect sync, Zhao Jun and Tang Hao'er quickly ducked behind a nearby tree, raising their Assault Rifles to aim in the direction of the sound. 0
