In the blink of an eye, Li Wei had stripped down to nothing but a single piece of clothing.
Zhao Jun hesitated no longer; he quickly removed his clothes, rolled them into a bundle, and handed them to Tang Hao'er. Turning around, he bent down and said to her, "Get on."
Tang Hao'er responded with a soft "mm," clutching the clothes as she jumped onto Zhao Jun's back.
Zhao Jun tightened his grip around Tang Hao'er’s legs and stood up, turning to Cheng Zhengxiong and Su Mei. "Big Bear, you’d better not go out. If your wound gets infected, it’ll be hard to deal with."
Cheng Zhengxiong smiled and replied, "Don't worry, I know what I'm doing."
Zhao Jun nodded and turned to Li Wei. "Let's go... You leave that piece behind."
With that, Zhao Jun kicked Li Wei, who had already inserted two thumbs into the edge of his clothing. Li Wei let out a startled yelp and fell into the water with a splash.
Everyone burst into laughter as they watched Li Wei scramble out of the water like a drenched chicken.
Soaked and flustered, Li Wei glared at Zhao Jun. "Dude, I wasn't planning on stripping! It was just a habitual move. Why are you reacting so dramatically?"
Zhao Jun laughed heartily as he waded into the water with Tang Hao'er on his back. "That habitual move of yours isn’t good; you need to change it."
"Shut up," Li Wei muttered as he picked up his clothes and followed Zhao Jun back into the water.
They trudged through the dark water for over ten meters, the sound of waves outside becoming clearer.
Zhao Jun couldn’t help but remind Tang Hao'er again, "We’re outnumbered here; this isn’t a joke. Once we’re outside, you must stay close to me."
"I know, stop nagging," Tang Hao'er replied cheerfully as she hugged Zhao Jun's neck, showing no signs of nervousness.
The more relaxed she seemed, the more worried Zhao Jun became that she might cause trouble. But since they hadn’t encountered any enemies yet, there wasn’t much else he could do besides reminding her a couple more times.
When they reached the cave entrance, Zhao Jun paused, hiding in the darkness to carefully observe the surroundings. After confirming that everything was clear, he stepped onto the shore with Tang Hao'er still on his back. He set her down and took her hand as they hid behind a cluster of rocks.
Tang Hao'er handed her bundle of clothes to Zhao Jun and whispered, "You guys get dressed; I'll keep watch."
Zhao Jun nodded, and Tang Hao'er, holding the AK Heart, maneuvered around several rocks and moved forward a bit, hiding in the shadow of a boulder.
After Zhao Jun and Li Wei got dressed, he called for Li Wei to join Tang Hao'er. Tang Hao'er looked up at Zhao Jun with bright eyes and asked, "What should we do now? Should we head straight to the Bandit Nest?"
Zhao Jun shook his head and replied, "It's still early. The bandits will be most relaxed in the late night. We need to solve our food problem first."
Tang Hao'er responded with an "oh," and Zhao Jun turned to Li Wei and asked, "Can you climb trees?"
Li Wei grinned and said, "Nope."
Zhao Jun shook his head and handed the canvas backpack that Tang Hao'er had brought out to Li Wei. "Then you should go with Hao'er to gather seafood. The rocks exposed by the low tide are great for finding some sea goods—fish, shrimp, crabs, shellfish, seaweed, and so on. Try to collect as much as you can. If there's time, bring it back to the cave for Big Bear and the others to handle."
Li Wei took the canvas bag with a smile and said, "This is my specialty."
Zhao Jun shook his head. Gathering seafood might seem easy, but there were many tricks involved. However, when they were in Southeast City, Li Wei had dragged Zhao Jun to the beach a few times out of boredom. On two occasions during low tide, Zhao Jun had taken Li Wei along to gather seafood just for fun; they hadn't even bothered to look closely at some inconspicuous sea products. But now it was different—anything they could eat to fill their stomachs was valuable.
After arranging for Li Wei, Zhao Jun noticed that Tang Hao'er seemed somewhat dissatisfied with this plan. He lowered his voice and said, "Hao'er, you both need to stay alert while gathering seafood. The terrain here is complex. We’ve been hiding in the cave for a while now, and we don’t know if those bandits have sent anyone out at night to search for us. Stay vigilant; if anything seems off, retreat back into the cave immediately. Our cave is easy to defend but hard to attack; as long as we guard the entrance, it will be difficult for the bandits to break in. Also, don’t wander too far while gathering seafood."
Tang Hao'er nodded vigorously. "Don't worry; I'll be careful."
Zhao Jun replied with an "mm" and added, "I’ll go pick some coconuts."
Tang Hao'er squeezed Zhao Jun's arm gently. "You be careful too."
Zhao Jun smiled and patted Tang Hao'er before quickly climbing up towards the cliffs away from the shore. He remembered that direction had a grove of coconut trees.
Climbing trees and searching for birds were skills Zhao Jun had mastered long ago; however, after years of leisurely living, he had become somewhat rusty. Still, with his childhood experience, climbing a few trees and picking some coconuts was not a challenge for him.
After more than an hour, Zhao Jun returned to the rocky area near the cave entrance with about ten coconuts hanging from him, seven or eight papayas in hand, and a whole bunch of bananas slung over his shoulder.
At that moment, it was low tide at its lowest point. After placing his finds among the rocks and catching his breath for a moment while observing his surroundings, he noticed that neither Li Wei nor Tang Hao'er was in sight. He called out softly a couple of times but received no response.
Zhao Jun took the food he had gathered back into the cave only to find that Cheng Zhengxiong and Su Mei were also absent. He stored away the food, added some firewood to the campfire, then turned around and slipped out of the cave again. Following the scattered rocks along the beach in search of Tang Hao'er and the others, he casually picked up some seafood along the way.
After a little more than ten minutes, Zhao Jun finally found Tang Hao'er and the other three, who were busily engaged among a cluster of rocks. Zhao Jun quietly observed for a moment as the four of them chattered excitedly while battling two large crabs hiding in the crevices beneath the rocks. He made a gesture with his hand resembling a gun and pretended to fire four shots at them.
Hearing the commotion behind them, the four turned around and saw Zhao Jun. Tang Hao'er excitedly shouted, "Zhao Jun, come help us! There are two huge crabs here, they're really big! We've been trying for ages but can't get them out!"
Zhao Jun approached them with a serious expression and whispered, "You four have already been defeated. What good will it do to get those crabs out, no matter how big they are?"
"Ah?" The four were stunned, and in an instant, they understood what Zhao Jun meant.
Cheng Zhengxiong stood up awkwardly and said to Zhao Jun, "Zhao Jun, actually, Sister Tang and Li Wei were quite alert just now. Su Mei and I were spotted from far away when we came over. It's all my fault; I found these two crabs but couldn't get them out, so I called them over for help."
Zhao Jun sighed and looked at the four of them. "We really can't afford to lose any more. Let's forget about it for now; this is our lowest point. The tide will rise soon, so let's take the food you've gathered back first."
Tang Hao'er looked at Zhao Jun with disappointment and asked, "What about these two big crabs?"
Zhao Jun gently sighed, bent down to pick up a stick from the ground, walked over to the crevice in the rocks, and in the blink of an eye, one of the large crabs clamped onto the stick and was pulled out by Zhao Jun.
"Wow! Zhao Jun, you're amazing!" Tang Hao'er couldn't help but cheer.
Zhao Jun shot her a disapproving look and whispered sharply, "Hao'er, are you trying to let those bandits find us?"
Tang Hao'er was startled and quickly covered her mouth with her hand, looking around cautiously.
