Zhao Jun climbed back up the path and quickly made his way toward the cave where they had been hiding.
As he approached the entrance, he noticed that Tang Hao'er was not there. He frowned slightly and called out softly, "Hao'er."
Tang Hao'er's voice came from the shadows behind him, "Don't move, raise your hands."
Zhao Jun turned around to see Tang Hao'er stepping out from the shadows, unable to suppress a smile.
This girl was quite alert; she had managed to sneak up behind him.
Tang Hao'er jumped in front of Zhao Jun, beaming with pride. "Zhao Jun, I have captured you."
Zhao Jun hugged Tang Hao'er and kissed her forehead. "I found a more secluded spot. Let's hurry and wake them up to get ready for the move."
Tang Hao'er stood on her tiptoes and gave Zhao Jun a kiss on the back before giggling, "You're amazing."
In the eyes of those in love, each other is always the best, and there's no arguing that.
Zhao Jun held Tang Hao'er as they quickly walked toward the cave. It wasn't until they reached the entrance that he let go of her and, feeling around in the dark, called out to Li Wei, who was snoring loudly. "Li Wei, wake up! We need to move."
Li Wei groggily opened his eyes. "Is it bright out?"
"If it's bright, it's too late," Zhao Jun replied, ignoring Li Wei as he began to feel his way toward Cheng Zhengxiong and Su Mei.
Su Mei heard the commotion and sat up. She looked at Zhao Jun emerging from the darkness and asked softly, "Teacher Zhao?"
"Yes, it's me. Wake up Da Xiong; I've found a safer place," Zhao Jun replied.
Su Mei nodded and reached out to nudge Cheng Zhengxiong. "Zheng Xiong, Zheng Xiong, we need to get up..."
Su Mei pushed Cheng Zhengxiong twice. He grunted but did not get up. Instinctively, Su Mei reached out to touch Cheng Zhengxiong's forehead and gasped in shock, "Teacher Zhao, Zhengxiong has a fever. He's so hot."
Zhao Jun hurriedly squatted beside Cheng Zhengxiong and placed his hand on his forehead. Cheng Zhengxiong struggled to open his eyes and weakly said, "I'm fine..."
Zhao Jun retracted his hand and took out a lighter from his pocket to light it. Looking at Cheng Zhengxiong's pale face, he said, "Big Bear, you have a fever. This place isn't safe; we need to move. Hang in there; I'll carry you in a moment."
Cheng Zhengxiong grunted and managed to push himself up with difficulty. "It's fine; I can walk by myself."
Zhao Jun patted Cheng Zhengxiong on the shoulder. To be honest, Cheng Zhengxiong's performance over the past few days had impressed him. Unlike other rich kids who would whine and cry if they got shot, Cheng Zhengxiong was holding up remarkably well.
Hearing that Cheng Zhengxiong had a fever, Tang Hao'er and Li Wei rushed over. Zhao Jun ordered them, "You two hurry up and pack your things; we need to leave immediately."
Tang Hao'er and Li Wei quickly responded and split up to gather their belongings. There wasn't much to pack—just some spoils they had collected from the helicopter yesterday, which could easily be bundled up in blankets.
Su Mei helped Cheng Zhengxiong stand up, and Zhao Jun handed his AK to Su Mei before turning to Cheng Zhengxiong. "Come on, I'll carry you."
Cheng Zhengxiong placed his hands on Zhao Jun's back and insisted, "I really can manage..."
Zhao Jun turned around with a glare. "Stop talking nonsense; don’t waste time. Hurry up! If the bandits come searching, we'll be in trouble."
Cheng Zhengxiong forced a smile and obediently climbed onto Zhao Jun's back.
Zhao Jun lifted Cheng Zhengxiong with effort and commanded Li Wei and the others, "Follow me. Li Wei, you go last and cover up any traces we've left behind in the cave."
Li Wei grinned and said, "Why do I feel like you're becoming more and more like Brother Yang?"
When they escaped from the Bandit Nest, all their movements were arranged by Yang Bing—who went first, who went second—and now Zhao Jun was unconsciously mimicking Yang Bing's style of assigning tasks to everyone, making it seem very natural.
Zhao Jun carried Cheng Zhengxiong towards the cave entrance, while Su Mei, clutching an AK, closely followed beside him to support Cheng Zhengxiong. Tang Hao'er trailed behind them with a large bundle on her back, calling out to Li Wei, who was lagging behind, "Li Wei, hurry up!"
Li Wei responded with a grunt, hastily brushing his foot against the sand on the ground before running to catch up with the others.
Outside, the light had brightened slightly compared to before, and brilliant dawn colors were beginning to appear in the eastern sky.
Zhao Jun nearly ran while carrying Cheng Zhengxiong directly towards the beach. He knew that with the dawn breaking, the bandits could emerge from Bandit Nest at any moment to search for them. The bandits had helicopters and boats, and Fortune Island was not very large; if they were searching from the air, it would only take a few minutes for them to fly over from Bandit Nest.
Every second was precious at this moment.
Descending through the steep crevices of the cliff down to the beach below, Zhao Jun glanced back at Su Mei and the others who had fallen behind and called out softly, "Everyone, hurry up and be careful."
As soon as Zhao Jun finished speaking, Su Mei, who had been cautiously climbing down the cliff, suddenly slipped and cried out. Zhao Jun's heart sank as he turned back to run towards her.
Fortunately, Su Mei fell from a height that wasn't too great; by the time Zhao Jun reached her, she had already gotten up from the rubble with red-rimmed eyes.
Though Su Mei was an entertainer and had been pampered all her life, becoming Cheng Zhengxiong's girlfriend later meant she had never experienced such hardship.
Tang Hao'er followed closely behind Su Mei and shouted at her as she limped down the cliff, "Sister, could you please move aside?"
Su Mei glanced back at Tang Hao'er and quickly stepped aside a few limping steps.
Tang Hao'er swiftly tossed down the large bundle she was carrying on her shoulder. Using her feet to grip the rocks and her hands to grasp branches, she nimbly descended from the cliff to the beach. She picked up her bundle and waved confidently at Zhao Jun, who was returning with Cheng Zhengxiong on his back. "You take care of Big Bear first; I'll look after Sister Su."
Cheng Zhengxiong on Zhao Jun's back smiled wryly and shook his head. Compared to Tang Hao'er, what did Su Mei even count as a sister?
Feeling embarrassed, Cheng Zhengxiong said to Zhao Jun, "Zhao Jun, we’ve caused you trouble."
Zhao Jun feigned anger and said, "So you really don't consider us friends, huh? Well, what time is it? Let's save the polite words for when we get back alive."
Cheng Zhengxiong laughed heartily, "Right, we'll save the polite words for later. By then, we can even swear brotherhood."
Zhao Jun chuckled, "Then I must have climbed up to a high branch."
As he spoke, Zhao Jun extended a hand to support Su Mei and asked with concern, "Are you alright?"
Su Mei blushed deeply and replied, "I'm fine, I'm sorry."
Tang Hao'er reached out and pushed Zhao Jun's hand away, glaring at him. "Hurry up and lead the way; I'll take care of Sister Su."
That lecher dared to flirt with another woman right in front of me. Just wait until I turn around; I'll deal with you.
Zhao Jun understood Tang Hao'er's meaning from her gaze and felt a wave of frustration wash over him.
At that moment, Li Wei came running up, panting while carrying another bundle. Zhao Jun snapped at him, "Keep an eye on Sister Su and Hao'er. Let's go!"
The five of them stumbled their way to the cave that Zhao Jun had found. Li Wei looked at the cave entrance half-submerged in seawater and asked Zhao Jun, "Can anyone hide in there if it's filled with water?"
Zhao Jun replied solemnly, "There's another opening inside. Stay close to me and be alert."
With that, Zhao Jun had already shouldered Cheng Zhengxiong and waded into the water, testing the ground beneath his feet as he moved toward the cave.
